I started off on Linux with Slackware.. Many people told me I was crazy to start off that way, but I was determined to get it right.. I took one friend's advice and installed Mandrake once just so he'd quit harping on me and I ended up crashin it within a day..
I'm still using Slack and it has been difficult at times, but over all, I love it.. It's complex and simple.. It's been one hell of a way to learn usin Linux but I wouldn't give Slack up for any other distros..:)
I was looking forward to seeing some interesting pictures, but for now I'd say the drawing on CNN's website of the Odyssey over Mars is more exciting:\
When I first saw there'd be an interview with a guy named Wil Wheaton I thought "wow I used to have a crush on an actor with that name when I was a kid" I thought the two people couldn't possibly be the same person.. (I haven't watched Star Trek in a long, long time so I had no clue) Anyhow, I think what Wil is doing with his site and everything is great.. Unfortunately many people see someone as one thing and won't accept anything else.. but at least this way, he's opening himself up and showing people all the other things there is to know about himself..
What's amusing is that someone was toting around a camera, just waiting to take that picture:P

While many people may have to switch to e-mail if this anthrax scare continues, I doubt it'll completely kill snail mail.. People are sentimental, or at least I am. I love receiving handwritten letters from my friends and family.. not to mention photos I can hold in my hand and hang on my wall.. e-mail won't replace this for me..
There is no redundancy. Just because the Windows version may run fine under Wine means nothing. The very thought that Austin is looking into creating X-Plane for Linux is tremendous all on its own. It's a big step and it's too bad more people aren't considering doing it.
If I remember correctly, when the divers went down to the Kursk, they were given orders not to bring back any remains because of the fact that they wouldn't be able to recover all the remains.. So, it's unclear to me whether or not they would return the remains to families of those they could identify or rather give the sailors one burial together, perhaps as a memorial? Does anyone know how Russia handles this type of thing?
How exactly does the display work? What would someone see looking at the glasses from in front of you? I have no knowledge in the whole beamsplitting, reflection thing so you'll have to excuse me:P but would it be possible someone could use a similar device directed toward the glasses that could "steal" or capture what's being displayed? or do the glasses have some sort of protective 'coating' (not sure on a good term) that would prevent this?
Not sure if it's been posted yet, but a guy out in Oregon is also working on something related to this.. Goes by RocketGuy
Everything he's worked on and gone through is pretty damn interesting, worth the read if you haven't heard of him.. He's set to launch in May of next year
A lot of people are complaining about editing and shows being cut but we've got to understand that CN is probably under a lot of pressure due to what's been going on.. CN isn't the only station that's had to go over their material the past week or so.. Other primetime shows are also being looked over because of their content and possibly won't be shown or at least portions of them will be edited.
People need to be more appreciative of what CN does show.. considering the network is mostly child-oriented. Violence in cartoons has been around for years and unfortunately it seems only certain genre are being targeted for that violence but, again, CN is under much pressure and they're doing what they can.. even if it's not gone about the best way
Reading through all the posts, I was unable to even find anything remotely related to the article.. Tell me my eyes aren't going fuzzy and this article was about Yahoo's news section and apparently everyone decided to post about depressurisation in aircrafts. It would have been nice to see people's opinions on the actual topic presented.

CNN just reported that the five firefighters found were not actually lost in the rubble since the collapses but were actually firefighters searching for people, an unfortunate mix-up in stories..

Amazingly enough, CNN is reporting they found 5 firefighters alive that were held up inside a fire dept's SUV, they're all said to be alright.. this is really good news since the hope of many had begun dwindling.. I believe there is already a story on CNN's main page about it
Why all the negativity about this? So what if they're considering it.. At least SOMEONE is considering SOMETHING. We may not have mastered all there is about going into space, even if it's not far out from our own atmosphere, but at least a group of people is giving thought to this. I do not care if they've only considered it purely for greedy financial reasons or what not, but this is something good. It's been many people's dreams to go out into space, and really, it's their own choice to make that risk (again we haven't mastered everything) So accept that Russia may create a commercial space station, fulfilling the dreams of many, and also raising money to possibly -advance- in the 'space' discovery. I think it's great that someone's finally come forth and expressed their ideas and possibly plans for something that could be wonderful and even educational to many.
There are many sites directed toward senior citizens. Perhaps bookmark the sites for them and show them how to access them. Ask them what their interests are and show them sites involving that.
Yahoo has a Senior Guide pointing to many sites they may find suitable to their tastes as well.
I'm going for my programming degree at a small college and so far the only programming class I've had is a semester of VB. It's required before moving on to any other languages. Although I was learning fairly well in the beginning, I found later on that I didn't really understand what I was learning. I would much rather see a class required before any programming classes that teaches the basics of programming, concepts, just how it works and why - I would have felt much more comfortable taking VB had I understood just what I would be doing and learning.
