Tasogare Anime in Lubbock. The last time I was in there they had 200 or so tapes for rent as well as CDs, Magazines, and toys.
Idle Times in Spur. This is my video store, very small town but a good selection of Anime. I am a fan so the Anime section is my pet project. Over 500 VHS tapes including complete series, Evangelion, Slayers, Blueseed, most of the first 5 years of Ranma 1/2, and a bunch of other stuff alot of it is dubbed so I would have at least a chance to rent them. Things like BGC OAV is subbed. Current DVD selection is about 100 DVDs, but growing.
Heh, this got rated funny but it's true. I have tapes in my rental store that have the naughty bits worn out. Take your pick Shannon Tweed, Sharon Stone, any actress that takes her close off. Hey to be fair it's not just guys doing this, any movie where Mel Gibson drops his pants gets the same treatment from women.
India indeed makes a lot of movies! About 10 times as many as Hollywood. I am amazed you could find a VHS tape in India, I always thought most asian countrys used VCDs instead. I've watched a few, but it seems that they are all musicals.;-)
BTW the last local Catholic priest was from India, go figure! Welcome to slashdot.
Most tapes sold to rental chains run around $100 or so.
This use to be true sort of, the $100 was the retail price and you got a 30 or 40% discount from your distributor. Most movies ran $49-$69 wholesale. Now the studios have changed a lot of prices, most movies will cost videostores $35-$60 now with big chains like Blockbuster getting movies for $5 or less a piece plus a cut of the rentals (40%) thats what the Texas lawsuit is about. DVD have really hit VHS sales bad and the studios are lowering prices on VHS. I don't think the RIAA has much of a chance here unless they can buy a change in the current "first sale" idea that the courts set down in the betamax case.
Yeah, I have a milling machine that has a safety sticker on it that says, "Straight light on the PE cover is prohibited". I always wanted to shine a light light on it and see if a Taiwanese cop would show up.
Back in jr. highschool autoshop class (1969) a guy brought in a Datsun pickup for us to work on. He brought his own parts and on the oil filter there was a big picture of an elephant and the words "White Elephant Auto Parts". We all got a good laugh at that.
You wouldn't believe how much power over the masses the Pope has. I've seen people flock to the streets and wait for 2-3 hours just to catch a glimpse of his holiness passing by (yes, 2 hours waiting for a 5-second sighting)
Heck, that's nothing I once stood in a crowd in Austin, Texas in 100 degree weather for 3 hours to see Dolly Parton at the premier of Best Little Whore House in Texas.
I currently admin a few stores that run a POS (Piece of Sh*t) POS (Point of Sales) program called Microbiz. It runs on Win9x, and it is an unstable piece of junk.
Man are you right on that, I tried the demo of the videorental version and it sucked big time.
I checked out LinuxPOS and didn't care for it. If they haven't changed the UI it was not intuitive. It's X only, so you have to have a "modern" computer. My poor ol' 486 won't hack it. That is why I have stayed with my DOS POS. I have seen other POS projects on the net, but they don't seem to go anywhere very fast. I wish I had the time and ability to help one of these projects, because it really needs to be done.
Instead of a sharpie, I chuck one of these "CD" like things up in my metal lathe and cut the outside edge off down to the "gap". Now does that make my metal lathe a circumvention device?
WorldComm?
Monday I got a call from MCI wanting me to change my long distance. I guess their still trying to get customers.
Say HI to Benten for me ;-)

How about Gold Bullion? ;-)
oops my bad, I haven't even viewed it yet. I didn't get to go to Tulsa this year. :-(
The public premier was last weekend in Tulsa at the Sci-Fi Con. I've got a 3" DVD of it that was given away at Tulsa.
It's just pining for the fiords.
Go try dialing a rotary phone, and see if you don't find it annoying just because of the time difference.
Dude, my main phone is a 40+ year old rotary and I like it just fine, besides it looks cool!
It's still 5 WPM if you want more than a No Code TECH.
N5... oh no you don't!
I wouldn't mind that so much. It's the goats.cx that worries me.
Well not *all* movies.
The One
and there are more.

There are no soilders or bombs so to speak.
What about "Windows ME" and "Bob"?

That was my thought, but Jack is too long winded. I guess you could print it on a full length black trench coat. Just don't go to school wearing it.

Life, Don't talk to me about life...
Yeah, and it had better last longer than 13 seconds.

Now how often do you get to work Frank Sinatra, Juipter, Moons, and Anime into the same post on slashdot? This must be a record.
And put lots of pictures of Tux around the place. His cute smile will calm everyone's fears. :)
How about a T-shirt with "DON'T PANIC" printed on it?
