First Microsoft dropping IE support, then this. Well, no use in competing with Apple! Lets just all give up, since their application is better anyways.
because I could just as easily reboot the machine and root it. local, physical access exploits are fucking stupid, in the same way that non-suid binary sploits are worthless.
I saw this "exploit" on full-dis, where it started a rather large thread, given how silly this bug actually is (a screensaver breaker...ooooh now I'm quaking in my boots). I thought it was excessive that -anyone- responded to his thread, and now it got posted on/. ? What gives?
Probably going to get modded down for troll, but I had to vent. Excuse me.;)
The origin was all written by me. For the first six months or so I was the only person working on Linux. It took almost a year before there was a major contribution from people outside. It's all original code since day one.
Better hope RMS isn't reading this article, or he'll be PISSED.
You'd think this would be an encouragement to the X-Box linux team. Releasing these exploits will supposedly make it much easier to pirate X-Box games, which would effect the vast majority of X-Box consumers. Linux on X-Box, on the other hand, is such a small percentage of the market that it is essentially irrelevant.
On the other hand, if this team didn't release their exploits, someone else would have discovered them and done so anyways...
Linux isn't a corporation, who says it has to be professional? If you want to pretend that linux is some big, pressed-shirt and straight-tie organization, convince your boss to buy RedHat products.
/me looks at a rather substantial collection of mp3's and ripped cd's....
At first thought, I was a bit worried about how much more out of control fiascos like this can get. And you know, the interesting thing is that my second thought wasn't "gee, I should rm -rf that collection and never trade music again", it was "hrm, I wonder how we are going to beat the bastards this time and trade music anonymously".
These underhanded scare tactics don't drive people back; they fuel innovation for the exact things they are trying to stop.
BTW, what is it with your critisism of the way RMS looks? When you've contributed enough to the community that people will care to listen to your opinion then you can have a little picture of you posted next to your articles and we can all have a good laugh about the way you look.
Wow, thank you so much. With more posts like this, the /. effect is sure to be a thing of the past!
I thought the first rule of programming was "you don't talk about programming."
The second rule of programming is, "you DO NOT talk about programming!"
You wanna see Harry Potter in Germany? (sfw)
He pines for the days when he could send mighty plagues across the land to smite his enemies. ;)
Yeah, I use SCO as my server platform, and WinXP for my desktop. I'm a /. rebel, baby!
Don't you know....God owns the copyright on the Bible. And if you steal it or copy it, he'll be pissed.

Sheesh.
After the disappointments that were Matrix 2 and Charlie's Angels 2, the summer movies have a lot to prove this year.
And what exactly were we expecing from Charlie's Angles 2?
I would, but I can't see anything on their webpage, because apparently, they believe that flash is a suitable substitute for HTML and content.
I think that the difference here is that civil disobedience can change -laws-, but we're not fighting laws here. We're fighting money.
I don't care what anybody says, It'll ALWAYS be called "phoenix" to me!

For example, chapter 8, "Debugging With GDB," was not simply a repeat of the online help...
;)
Wow, so we didn't even RTFS (summary), did we?
the point is that windows users can't build their own binaries, so they need other people to make them.
Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays!

Beyond that, leave linux to the hackers.
If I had to reboot my machine every time my software died, I don't think I'd get much done.
... ;p
By any chance are you helping to develup Duke Nukem Forever?
funny...the same thing happens with me and my ogg vorbis files...

Also, the Iraqi Information Minister has once again emphasized that there are NO American tanks or forces in the city of Baghdad.
