    No, you only get modded down if you don't go on to make some sort of reference to groupthink. Once you do, you get modded up, wether or not you have a good point, because people want to combat the evils of the group mentality.

    (and me) are indicative of the "problem". We all view this as craziness of the local goverment, just like the programmers at microsoft. It's probably just our attitude, I personally wouldn't give a damn if microsoft had included texas in with mexico, but I'm sure it would enrage some people. I think we focus on more pertinent issues, which is why we should all unite and overthrow all goverments to rule as the giant slashdot collective.

    It isn't that NBA players can't shoot, it's that the NBA players they selected can't shoot. Had their first choices for players not declined the US team would still be dominate, however when pretty much all the first string players turned them down, they went with big names rather then trying to put togther a solid team. They don't have a single player out there with a solid outside shot, but that doesn't mean that such a player was unavilable to them for selection. They just wanted to sell jerseys.

    You could do something like pagerank based on citations. I know when I'm reading papers I usually find that the ones that are the most cited are usually of good quality.

    It seems like these days someone manages to predict all the new tech before it comes out. Has it always been this way? Did people see the atom bomb coming before it did? Because I have to say, this prediction thing is really taking the fun out of everything. Rather then being plesantly suprised by new things I am just pissed that I can't buy stuff I'm reading about.

    Once you move to Gentoo you'll realize that true geeks use BSD. When you get there you'll realize they use Plan 9. And you'll never actually use Plan 9, because no one uses Plan 9, so the cycle ends there.
