  1. Psychologists Are Bad For You. on Meetings are Bad For You · · Score: 1, Informative

Really, saying 'meetings are bad for you' is just a way for psychology to have influence over business management.

Whats bad for you is over-psychologizing about all sorts of things .. thats definitely bad for you.

Meetings are good for people who have to work together and coordinate things together, and good meetings result in happy, productive people. Its quite possible to have bad, cheesy, Office-Space style meetings that go nowhere, but its equally possible to have effective management of meetings so that in fact, work gets done.

If all you do is sit around in the meeting room, psychologizing about things, then you'll definitely come out crapped out. Get work done, communicate effectively, use meetings as a proper tool. Then you'll feel good ..

then Apple released the Powerbook, and it was all over. my room full of SGI boxen: replaced with a single powerbook. granted, they were all Indy's, and granted, i wasn't doing much in the high-power end of the SGI spectrum, but godamnit i wish SGI would pull out of whatever death spiral they're in this year and release a laptop to kick the powerbooks' ass ..

Huh ? One of the big problems in Australia is there are _too many_ skilled people leaving the country because the wages are relatively low and taxation is relatively high.

one of the big problems in Australia is laziness and consumption. consumerism blows! go do some real work, i say, and yeah .. you know for every "wage-whiner", there are at least 1,000 other human beings who will happily do twice the work for half the pay. get over it, its the new world order, either travel or die!

Disclaimer: I'm an Australian, born and bred in one of Australia's most unique spots, but as soon as I was able to work, I left Australia .. and have been making my living, ever since, as a programmer, outside Australia.

You want to make money as a programmer, have a wonderful life, and do something worthwhile? Go to a 3rd world country and teach them to write code.

The world needs far less nationalism, far less 'right to my nations lifestyle', and far less elitism. The world needs more cooperation, more participation between cultures, and more direct influence on the ability of the poor, by the well-educated, such that equality does occur. Complaining about 'migrants taking our jobs' is the most narrow-minded, stupid, un-educated point of view in this modern age of technological wonder; living in a village with your laptop and giving the local kids a logon so you can learn their language properly is a far, far greater way to spend ones life.

I can't stand the 'lifestyle trap' that Australians think they have a God-given right to. Australia never, ever belonged to whitey. To my Australian compatriates, I say, get the hell out of town and live a little .. your lifestyle is the problem. The world needs you to leave.

i would say because dyne:bolic is more 'multimedia-oriented' than knoppix, which is still fairly generic/general purpose.

with dyne:bolic, any PC becomes a multimedia production studio in a heartbeat (well, bootup, anyway), and you really can get to creating with it fast and easily .. this is important in this day of "iWhatever" style apps being churned out by the big-nerds, so i'd wager thats why dyne:bolic is being pitched, in lieu of knoppix.

which isn't to say knoppix isn't cool .. but its certainly not the first, nor the last, linux-booting liveCD with productivity tools on it (far as i can remember, yggdrasil was first..)

i've got 2600ma's in mine .. and i get about 4 hours, max, of watching my girl play impossible mission on it. the GP2x, quite frankly, rocks .. its become more 'fun' than the powerbook, and that was already covering great territory.

    1) The cpus are both going at full processor speed. They should turn off or throttle down when not in use.

this is up to the programmer. note that some of the gp2xdev's are doing this in their apps now, so programmers really do have full control of how they use the processor/power system. expect grand funk with this, i'd say.

    2) TV out is also always running and using up power. .. also fixable in software, and there are already many leaps and bounds with the firmware/hacking/fixing by the community, so there is a lot of faith in this as a 'new platform' which supports upgrades/fixes/extremely cool hacks.
