You could edit any post. Often some flamebait line comes as a single line at the end of an otherwise reasonable post. You can just edit out the flame and send them a message explaining that they should be more respectful of other forum members.

I joined one internet forum and the first post I made was edited because it violated their rules. It pissed me off because they changed my words without even noting that it was edited.

It was an e-cig forum and I made some minor reference to marijuana. I would have rather they just deleted my post and told me to resubmit it without the drug references. I abandoned that place.

Of course I hadn't read their rules before I posted, but I thought it was a reasonable post and their rule against even mentioning marijuana is IMO a stupid one.

  2. I noticed IMDB forums starting to turn into crap during Breaking Bad. Tons of people were jumping on and seriously discussing the show, but a lot of other people just logged in to crap all over everything.

Then I guess about 1 1/2 years ago they changed things a bit - requiring either a credit card or a phone number to post - and I wasn't giving either of those things out so I stopped posting.

I think the forums were manageable until they got too popular. I still sometimes hop over and read comments on things that I'm watching and was even tempted to chime in yesterday when I remembered I can't post there anymore.

  3. I only heard of this recently...

What I heard is many Hawaiians were claiming this as their own rightful land since it was deeded to their ancestors who never sold it and let's face it - the US screwed Hawaii "bigly" to take them over and make them a state.

I saw a news report about it a couple of weeks ago and I have no concept of 700 acres. I grew up on a lot that was about a half-acre, so 1400 times the size of my suburban childhood home's front and back yards?

700 acres is 283 hectares. Nope, that muddles it even more for me.

My thought was that Zuckerberg should give them a break, but one claimant said they were offered a measly $500 in exchange to giving up being able to at least traverse part of the property like they said they had done for their entire lives.

I may have seen a biased news story and I'm admittedly biased against Zuckerberg, but I thought he was being an ass for not giving in at least a little - at least for public relations sake.

And then Zuckerberg sued them? Is he high? No wait, I'm high. If Zuckerberg were smoking the Maui Wowie (or Kauai Kind) he'd be a bit more generous, but he's obviously drunk on his own power and riches.

OTOH, 700 acres is a little over a square mile (~2.8 sq. km) and I can grasp how big (or small) that is.

Maybe Zuck anticipated a fight no matter where he bought property and that property is worth fighting for.

And then some of the people suing Zuckerberg didn't even realize they "owned" the property until it became an issue.

    Who knows?

I am high, but if I were him, I would buy a small plot of land in the middle of it and instead of building a wall I would manipulate the lava flows so they cut off access to anyone who didn't have a helicopter to get there.

Hell, you'll even get some YouTube channels doing nothing but videos about "5 product placements you surely missed in (show)".

I had never seen one of these so I found one - 10 product placements in TV/film that you didn't notice.

Almost every example they used was blatantly obvious, although not always overly obnoxious. The first was Lone Star Beer in True Detective. I've never seen that show, but there's a guy with a 6-pack of Lone Star (labels all facing the viewer) and he drinks one. Yeah, not hard to spot, but I'm not sure it was very distracting.

A Marlboro truck in Superman II? That Superman gets slammed into? Kind of obvious. I've never seen a cigarette truck. Then he gets thrown into the Coca Cola sign in Times Square? IIRC there really that sign really did exist and looked the same in real life, so not distracting.

They even included Wayne's World, which was mocking product placement in movies - maybe it was actual product placement, but they made it obvious (that's the joke).

If I actually don't notice it, it's not bothersome to me. And then what about Radar and his Nehi Grape is M*A*S*H? Was that product placement? I don't even know, but it's completely believable that it would be his favorite drink and I don't think it distracted from anything. (That was not included in the YT video).

I'm sure some people manage to have Comcast as their ISP/cable provider and the service works well and they don't think it's that expensive because they can afford it easily enough anyway.

When I was a Comcast customer I had outages all the time both with the cable TV and internet service. Their customer service/repair were always a hassle to deal with.

I've snipped most of my rant here, because it was just ranting about my own problems with Comcast, but CenturyLink's customer service is just as bad, but at least they don't have nearly as many outages in my neighborhood and at least in my area their DSL is as fast as Comcast - and they're cheaper - if you badger them enough about getting a decent price.

I used to rant about Cox Communications too when they were my ISP/cable provider. I actually miss them now.

I use Verizon because I've been a customer of AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile and I had problems with all of those other carriers and VZW has never screwed me over (too much anyway). But I guarantee you there is some AT&T customer out there who will say that AT&T never screwed them and go on to tell you about how bad Verizon was to them.
