I don't understand how Microsoft hasn't been sued to oblivion yet by a big serious company, or maybe all the world's utility companies, or the defense industry.. Think about it.. You have a company with a monopoly on the operating system that is on damn near every desktop computer and laptop.. and that company decides they're going to send your data back to itself, update your computer whenever it wants, and now install advertisements and bloatware without your permission. Microsoft is either stupid or evil.. and it cannot possibly be this stupid.
Industrial control systems typically run on Windows. WTF is gonna happen when they're running Windows 10 and the IT management people can't lock it down? Engineers and scientists use Windows.. and now they also get Candy Crush. Medical equipment and hospitals run on Windows.. and now Windows needs to update right now "FUCK YOU, I'M UPDATING."

I work in industrial control systems - an industry where we need things running 24/7 until scheduled downtimes under our control. Microsoft's current direction of assuming everyone connects their systems directly to the Internet and assuming they should get to reboot after applying bloatloads of updates is a disaster waiting to happen. I am tired of people criticizing our solutions and workarounds for Microsoft's combination of arrogance and ineptitude.

No matter what user demand, if the network is congested, it is broken and the capacity should be increased. Just like the power company will upgrade the grid to accommodate for power needs, the network companies should upgrade the network to accommodate for data needs.
The US should quit being 3rd world when it comes to network speeds and quit layering bureaucracy on top of network upgrades. If AT&T and Verizon cannot handle the upgrades, the network should be taken away from them and handed to companies that can. Companies that enjoy special regulations that preserve their network monopolies should be heavily regulated and taxed to promote profits going back into infrastructure upgrades.
Fairlife milk has been on the store shelves for years.. Coca Cola owns it. I was a regular milk consumer - mainly because it was a cheap way to take in more protein. However, I was throwing a lot of milk away since it already seemed to taste bad even before it hit the expiration date. I tried the Fairlife milk and now I won't go back.. It tastes fresher than regular milk even a month after I open it. And, it has a higher protein content. Win Win..

Facebook keeps thinking it knows who my close friends are because it determines who I've been talking to through Facebook. So, my feed is constantly spammed by people I rarely talk to - except through Facebook - while I hardly see what my closest friends are up to. It's annoying. They really do need to fix their feed - and they need to quit giving spamsites so much priority. This is a step in the right direction - but I doubt it will be done in the way users want.
Facebook got popular because it gave users control over their information, who got to see it, and who's information they saw. Now, it frustrates a lot of people because it's so full of spammy click garbage.
There should be an 'only see original posts by friends' option and allow users to filter out some of the re-shared bullshit.
I am sick of people calling Snowden himself a limited hangout. If you're referring to the NSA/CIA document release, then maybe it could be a limited hangout - but calling Snowden himself a limited hangout makes very little sense. If Snowden was a limited hangout, I doubt he would have done the following:
- caught Obama lying about only collecting 'metadata'
- caught James Clapper in multiple lies - even to the Senate Intelligence Committee
- caught General Keith Alexander in lies
- caught multiple politicians in lies defending the NSA/CIA only to get upset at the NSA/CIA spying on them (ie.. Sen. Dianne Feinstein)
The only way I could see Snowden possibly being a limited hangout (despite my gut telling me overwhelmingly to trust him) is if some other '3 letter agency' was trying to get more power by hurting the reputations of the CIA/NSA. Skype makes no fucking sense right now - neither on Windows or on Mac. On my Mac, it will show Skype contacts or Mac Contacts - but it does not seem to show my Outlook 2016 contacts. And, of course, in the new version of Outlook, Microsoft has decided to destroy compatibility with using Mac and Outlook contacts interchangeably.

I really wish Microsoft would work to make their own programs more consistent and compatible with each other. This isn't just a Skype issue. Outlook 2016 is completely unusable. Excel regularly crashes on typing very simple formulas. Powerpoint files sent to me from Windows users crash Powerpoint 2016 often. And, of course, Outlook 2016 isn't compatible with anything and loves to add duplicates of your contacts.
But, of course, Microsoft has decided that their latest software is always better than old stuff so they're taking control of your computer and upgrading you to Windows 10. And one more thing.. Microsoft's programmers are cocky as hell. Every single one of them I've ever met act like they write better code than Donald Trump has words.
There are multiple ways of looking at this. For me, I think hard-wired networks should be so robust that no set of user demand could ever saturate the possible bandwidth. That means massive upgrades should take place everywhere and ISPs would be competing solely on bandwidth. And, that also means taxpayer dollars spent on network upgrades should be spent on network upgrades.
ISP's, however, (and specifically Verizon) have spent these taxpayer dollars largely on shareholder dividends without upgrading their infrastructure. They are working hard to protect their limited-bandwidth infrastructure from market influences that demand upgrades. Economically, it makes sense for Verizon to spend little on infrastructure upgrades if they can get rid of net neutrality because it means they can completely cripple competing services citing 'bandwidth limitations' while making sure their antiquated services (like cable TV) work better than the competition.
As for wireless, net neutrality is somewhat tougher to support unless existing total bandwidth was always divided equally against existing customer bandwidth demands.
The whole thing comes down to who controls what and who makes money. If we don't support the FCC on this one, we are essentially handing complete control of the Internet over to companies like Verizon. I would prefer we did the opposite and gave control of the Internet to individuals as much as possible.

When networking was first developed, TCP/IP emerged as the most-used standard. Once it started catching on, numerous proprietary protocols were developed where companies tried to take control - but TCP/IP ended up as the standard. It did not end up as the standard because it was the best; it ended up as the standard because it had the most existing infrastructure, investment, acceptance, and understanding. Since TCP/IP was developed, the TCP/IP technology has moved forward and been adapted as needed. I believe the same will happen with Bitcoin. Bitcoin is merely a protocol for currency. Every other alternative virtual currency - whether it offers a better feature set or not - is behind Bitcoin in terms of infrastructure, investment, acceptance, and understanding.
These banks are simply butthurt that their do not control Bitcoin so they believe they can build an alternative that they control so they can compete against it. There is zero value in the banks' protocol for anyone other than the banks. Whereas, Bitcoin will have value for anyone and everyone that invests in it or uses it. So, unless the banks open up their protocol to the public, like Bitcoin, and allow people to innovate and make money on their platform, Bitcoin has it beat.

The only way I know of to keep a competitive environment where cellular carriers cannot fuck with user experiences and device makers get a fair shake is to prevent cellular services companies from providing the phones.
It's anecdotal (because I don't know of any app that will allow me to prove this), but I am certain TMobile drops data connections of my phone detects wifi signals nearby - even if Wifi is off. It basically forces me to use a wifi signal even though I'm perfectly happy using the cellular data signal that I pay for. It happens in good coverage areas. If devices were decoupled from cellular service providers, the device makers would have much more incentive to show the user that the device is not causing the issue. And, the services would have much more incentive to show which devices play well with their networks.
Since cell phone services control the device, they can install the worlds worst battery-hogging software that just annoys the user - and prevent the user from removing it.
So, to sum it up:
- cellular service companies are evil, make too much money, and don't spend enough money upgrading their networks
- cellular device companies need to grow a backbone and prevent cellular services from screwing up the user experience
- cellular service companies should not be able to control every aspect of the cellular device
- cellular services AT&T and Verizon are especially evil
This would probably fix 99.99% of all credit card fraud.. Will they do it? I doubt it. I swear there is somehow a business in allowing certain fraud. If there wasn't, the credit card companies wouldn't be so shitty in preventing it.

This would probably fix 99.99% of all credit card fraud.. Will they do it? I doubt it. I swear there is somehow a business in allowing certain fraud. If there wasn't, the credit card companies wouldn't be so shitty in preventing it. Fucking Discover.. I travel a lot (usually within the states). I go to San Francisco and try to buy dinner for clients (after making a previous purchase successfully in San Fran).. DECLINED.. right in front of my clients. Make a phone call to Discover and they 'fix it' and I tell them I want my card to work. Then I go to pay the bar tab at LAX for a layover on my way back.. DECLINED.. right in front of everyone at the bar. It's so fucking annoying that I started carrying cash. Fuck these credit card companies.. I wish Bitcoin was accepted everywhere.
