This surprised me... Last week, I've converted two of my not-so-savvy neighbors up the block to Mozilla. They never want to use IE again.

Popup blocking was their #1 concern. They were amazed how mozilla handled this. "Why doesn't IE do this?".. Ugh

Once I showed them tabbed browsing, they were in love.

Couple things, tho, that could help:

    1) First guy I installed Phoenix for, upgraded to Mozilla 1.4rc3 because of the friendly reminder he was running an old build. Umm.. Don't tell my non-savvy neighbors they need to switch product lines when their home page comes up.

    2) Would be nice if there was a bundle build you could grab with flash, java, etc - installed. Or at least something that goes and looks for the java plugin on your system and registers with that, instead of having to reinstall the java plugin to set the hooks that way.. (Is this possible?)

    The tide is turning, tho..

Rest assured, however, that we verify prices of products sold and shipped by Amazon.com as part of our shipping procedures.

They've done this before, so this isn't big news. About 9 months ago, they had the new RCA/Xbox TVs, 36", MSRP of about $1200, on sale for $99! (It was funny, it said "YOU SAVE 92%" or whatever the number was)

It circulated pretty fast. I ordered 6 of them.

I did find their policy posted, tho - which stated that the could at any time increase the price of an ordered item and then notify you for your approval.. Or, if the price posted was too high and you ordered, they'd drop the price - and this wouldn't take your approval to push it through.

Needless to say, about 3 days later a bunch of us got emails stating that there was an error, and if we'd like to order them at $999, then we could re-confirm our order.. Hah

Anyone ever see that two-person rafting game? .. That hurt too.

The horse-racing game? .. 8 of those horses side by side... Way fun.

The new motion-cap (I guess this is what you'd call them) games are WILD too -- there's this one that you stand in this one place and hold a gun - and to duck around corners to fire, well, you duck around a corner. If you need to drop to the floor to avoid gunfire, you drop to the floor. I didn't think it would be that much of exercise, but wow.

At home - I've fallen in love with DDRMax on the PS2. I have two of the hard dance platforms now -- it's the most exercise (aerobic) I've gotten in a long time. When my friends come over - it's turned on automatically - huge party hit. Mix beer with it, it gets really fun.

Sure, I need to be a bit more careful warming up and cooling down the car. I can live with that. And actually, ever since I've gotten the increase in performance, I put the pedal down LESS. That's weird.

There's also some other very cool tuning.. I have a Vag-Tool which allows me to hook my laptop up to the car and monitor (and change) settings/data in realtime.

Since I've had that, I've made the following changes:

    - Holding down lock on my keyfob for about 3 seconds will roll up all windows, close the moonroof, *and* lock the car

    - The other way around - holding down unlock for a while opens up all the windows, etc.

    - My tiptronic transmission now will not automatically shift out of first gear. (VERY NICE)

    - My tiptronic transmission now lives in a non-stop "sports mode"

Ok, this story is eerily posted the same day I discovered what looks like a gem! (Please, someone, prove me wrong)

I'm currently paying $400/month for 50G of transfer ($2.50/G for extra) and 4U of space. 2 IPs. These are my own machines, so it's just colocation charge.

So, if anyone has seen what's been going on at newzbin.com, they had some illegal stuff posted, and their ISP (unitedcolo.com) gave them a couple options: term their contract, or rebuild the server (to wipe out the illegal stuff).

On their rant page (newzbin.com), they gave a link to their provider. (http://www.unitedcolo.com).. What do I see?

Dedicated Server .. Celeron 1.7GHz, 512M RAM, 80G HD, *500GB transfer*, for $99 a month with no setup!!! WTF? .. Towards the upper end, a P4 2.0GHz w/ 1G of ram and 120GB HD and 3 TERRABYTES of transfer for $299/month.

    Cough.

Colocation? .. Sure, they do that too. $1/month. 500GB transfer. Zero setup fee. And $49/month per 1U.

They even go as far as saying you're free to host your own porn sites if you wish. They just don't want anything on their network that's infringement - because everyone has an upstream provider (even the big boys) who don't take kindly to it. So I understand why they're giving newzbin.com a hard time.

SO. What's the catch here? .. My current contract (OH, BTW, unitedcolo doesn't even require a contract! it's month 2 month!) .. current contract expires in april, and you better believe I'm switching to these guys and pulling out my pogolinux-built linux boxen and having some fun toys for the home.
