Possibly because FTL travel wouldn't be safe for humans? or it puts limitations on what we can send. not to mention sending humans makes it a LOT more expensive and complex. I too would like to roam the galaxy in a space ship:) but probes are more efficient for now.
"Some firing pins are terribly brittle, and dry-firing even 10 or 20 times will destroy your firing pin."
You sir are wrong, I have dry fired my centerfire pistol hundreds of times without issue, I also own a rimfire pistol, they are supposedly more sensitive to breakage when dry firing, so I use a snap cap (a fake bullet to absorb the strike from the firing pin). however the manual for my rimfire gun says it's ok to dry fire.
"What do you propose to reduce the number of rapes?"
Teach women self defence classes, and provide them with guns, knives, pepper spray and whatever else they want.
on topic: I'm not convinced the hunters even shot at the drone, if they did it would have lost them a lot of moral-high-ground-points. I'm not a fan of hunting but I do understand the need for it (control deer population for one) and I will defend their rights to do it, you just won't see me hunting anything other then clay, paper or steel targets.
So now is the time to get Smith and Leahy out of office in the next election cycle, I plan to donate to their competitors campaign funds and to let them know why I'm doing so.
I'm not sure that's such a great argument, if you switch the language to "pirate" it will say burn, or throw overboard, nobody expects them to actually set fire to my picture or message, but I do expect them to delete it because thats what's implied. I did not mean "hide it from me".
You are wrong, the "mileage" DOES matter, I own a sports car and I do track days, I get around 8mpg when I'm going around the track, if I show up with a full tank, I can just about make it all day without having to refuel.. but it has happened that I needed more gas during the lunch break. If I owned a Tesla, I would have ran out of 'juice' around luch, and not been able to get on the track due to the recharge time. So while that doesn't matter to probably 95% of people who own sports cars, it *does* to me.. I love the lotus chassis and I would LOVE to own a Tesla, but that's a dealbreaker for me, I would have to own a separate trackday car..
Am I the only one who thinks the old guy shouldn't have been wandering around in the street ?
I think the sequence went something like : 1. update facebook from driveway 2. drive 2 miles 3. facebook posting actually makes it to the server 4. get blinded by the sun 5. run over crazy old person.
I just went digging through my exim install. I have exim-4.72-r1 on Gentoo and it has the fix in it. it's actually an old bug, the patch is for 4.69 and is from ~2008
It's 15 years ago, if they hold something minor (no charges were pressed) that happened 15 years ago as the reason for not giving you the job... then you probably weren't going to get it anyway.
Because the marketing department will tell them it's faster, maybe they'll commision a few "studies" that show it's faster.. and voila.. all the people who didn't do any actual testing will think and say its "a lot faster".
I've never really played the original version of geometry wars, but the re-done version on the xbox360 was awesome, the music and effects were great.. and it was free! well ok I died for the first few months before the demo timer ran out hehe..
You ignored the most important part, the "bought and paid for legislature", what's the point in voting if no candidate will do what's important to you, name 1 candidate anywhere that is promising to make copyright law more fair, or at least roll it back to the way it was 30 years ago.. if there is nobody to vote for, what will you do then? I'm with the parent poster, ignore stupid laws, I know I'm not harming anybody..
Ok, your evolution arguments aren't that well thought out, I'm sitting next to a fish tank full of animals that are both photosynthetic AND have mouths to eat with, they are corals.. you're assuming that evolution requires some kind of reason, or is trying to create a particular type of animal, or even result in 'better' animals, that's not how it works.. the mutations are random, so what if animals lost the ability to photosynthesize, they still survived and procreated, that's all that matters.. over time the algea mutates into different species, so what if it's not any better by your standards? as long as it survives and procreates, it'll continue to exist.
"While evolution can explain a variety of life within species, it can not explain why different species exist." oh great macro vs. micro evolution, say you separate a population into two groups, they'll start evolving in different directions, remember, random mutations, but each group shares the mutations through breeding inside its own group.. make enough mutations, and members from one group won't be able to interbreed with members from the other, voila a new species, I don't understand why people still buy that micro vs. macro evolution argument..
Tivo already does video push, you can subscribe to a bunch of 'channels' and it basically downloads short 2-10 minute videos from places like cnet, NY times, rocketboom and a whole bunch more.. and you can do video download rentals from amazon's 'unbox' service, the quality is about what my regular tv looks like, so very watchable, with specials for $0.99 per movie, its hard to beat..
Thats exactly right! I'm not buying any equipment that has any form of DRM in it, I've found myself another hobby that doesn't involve MY equipment telling me what I can and can not do..
That is nonsense, in a company setting the employees just need to be trained with the apps they use windows or linux doesn't matter one bit.. the admins keep their system running. you're thinking of people in a home setting who admin their own computer, yes I can see them sticking with windows.
People at my company can barely operate a lightswitch without assistance but they are very happy running kde, there were very few problems upgrading from MacOS.
Human population is already growing at an unsustainable rate, i see no reason to increase it even more with projects like folding.. I'll stick with seti

How about pre-program the GPS coordinates of a US base and fly back there when signal is lost?

and just for completeness, until recently, guns were banned in the city of Chicago as well, see how well that worked? :)

I have a feeling they just didn't shoot due to some command&control screwup and there is no killswitch..
What about race tracks? I regularly autocross my car and can easily do 50+ miles in a day..

Doesn't look like a house :) more like an office building..
google maps has it
More like 12 :)
Is that like the moore's law of formats ? the number of available formats doubles every X months ?
