certainly, infact, we've already had one of our Scottish forum members suggest(quite a while ago now) that he could pass it out to libraries in the Edinbugh area, i guess we've missed out there.
although i am obviously biased here, i would certainly think that TheOpenCD 1.2 is far more beneficial to a library user due to it's user friendly interface and extra resources, i'm curious to know what happens when a user pops the OO.o CD in their drive.
what did +d do, i only remember +r+s+h+a personaly, anyway, back on topic, you shouldn't be worrying about hiding your pr0n these days, but instead using pr0n with stegano as a cover for DeCSS sourcecode fragments;)
nah, it'd never work, PNG pornography would be way to suspicious...
well, i'm personally a recent convert to Geeklog http://www.geeklog.net/, it plays nicely in safe mode, is relatively painless to install, and from what i can tell easy for users, my only problem with it is the lack of integration with something other than Gallery, as i don't have netPBM or imagemagick available on my host.
because the win32 version hadn't been updated for rather a while when it was last looked at, and, it's something more for the overhaul and expansion that will come with the 2nd edition.
i'm not suggesting for a moment that people switch in the name of political correctness, i'm simply pointing out that the alternative is a serious one, and not just for hobbyists, surely you've seen some seriously ugly and obviously Photo$hop driven work littering the web produced by so called "professionals", maybe it's because they're simply lazy, or maybe they really don't know how to apply a bevel to text either way, there are plenty of people out here who are using photo$hop, costing their company a license, and not even needing a tenth of the functionality, so, if you say that GIMP isn't a suitable replacement for the profesional, where do you place people who get paid too much to tinker with P$?
well, my first suggestion would be TheOpenCD.org, it's a compilation of free(OSS compliant licenses) software for use on win32 systems, it's a little out of date at the moment, but will soon be freshened up a little and shortly afterwards the 2nd edition will apear.
a couple of ammendments to your list, GIMP for win32(GIMPWin), not WinGIMP, the latter will cost you money and is out of date...
compression, not ultimate-zip, if you have to use a winzip clone, just use winzip... otherwise, 7-Zip beats the hell out of it, the last time i used ultimate zip i came up against broken support for some of the unix formats, and i see no reason to install both.
web browsing, the Mozilla suite is a must, no ad banner like opera, massive number of plug-ins and very stable. of course, if you only need the browser there's always K-Meleon, gecko renderer MFC interface.
this is fantastic, i use The GIMP for vector work anyway, the path tool in 1.2.x was pretty good, but the new one promises to be even better, the main use for me will be to convert selection to path and export for cleanup using sodipodi though.
for all those "it's not photoshop though" comments we're bound to get, no, it isn't, it's The GIMP, and that's pretty much the most important factor here, i don't want a P$ emulator...
the most important area to these guys. as far as i can tell, is getting it on to OSX and selling it(metaphorically speeking) to Mac users, if they wanted the package to have a future on the linux desktop surely they'd be working on porting to GTK2 and then to OSX from there.
just out of interest, what can one actually do with filmgimp, sorry, CinePaint? i built it the other day and tried to have a play around, could really work out how to do anything at all, and is it just me or is it strange that they leave script-fu's that don't work with the filmgimp plugin set in the distro?
is the state of FM radio in the US that bad, i never realised how lucky we are to have the likes of BBC Radio4 and 1, and now a few extra's of interest via DAB.
um, no, definately trolling, GIMP's interface is great, it's simply different, and is getting better in the 1.3 tree, the GIMP itself outshines any competition that Photoshop has, and in many ways is nicer than Photoshop in my opinion, if you think it's ugly because you've only ever used the win32 build then go try it with themed GTK on linux. although it can't do everything P$ can it's definately not inferior to the point of no longer being usefull.
if only the UK government sites would take notice of this type of project, at the moment almost all government sites are ASP hosted on IIS, that's one good reason not to trust egovernment, inside local government organisations everything is windows based, NT and 2k servers, 95 and 98 workstations!
Initiative for software choice, yeah, nice one bill, you can choose any software you like, as long as it's ours. are they advising that the DOD avoid chunks of Windows based on OSS as well?
maybe they simply don't want any workstation level security, NT and NT2K give you secure workstations, 98 and ME do not, localy or network wise, XP home is a bad idea surely though, if they're using NT servers i seem to recall a distinct lack of NTAUTH domain log ons.
maybe they should provide linux for those users who do not want to go out and buy XP home or expose themselves with 9x, having said that, you could probably claim the same problem as with NT/2K with linux.
nope, he'd just have to use a generator with a valid license key to produce a valid product key and edit about 5 registry entries replace the old ID with the new product key and reboot, then tryu again, it might break windows update, but it should allow the service pack, worked for the betas anyway.
absolutely love the 2 minute honda ads myself, it's a shame the US wont get to see them in their full glory...

ok, i've realised why you should always use the preview button the correct win32 binary URL is http://wingimp.hp.infoseek.co.jp/files/plug-ins/st egano.exe
well, there's a stegano plug-in for The GIMP http://registry.gimp.org/plugin?id=314 , so i guess you can run it on Linux, Windows, OS/2...
t egano.exe might still work.
oh, if you're on win32 you'll probably want a precompiled plug-in, so http://wingimp.hp.infoseek.co.jp/files/plug-ins/s

well, if that's the most useful and productive thing you can concievably do with your machine, then i guess windows is the logical option...
oh, ever heard of WINE(x) by the way?
here's a fairly complete mirror of the site(minus forum obviously)
http://biggyp.host.sk/theopencd/
not sure how long it'll last though...

i'm sorry, but the main reason i know of that prevents web designers switch to The GIMP is both a reliance on win32 and the way P$ does things.
of course, the other is that attitude that you only get GOOD software if you pay money for it, i'm sorry, this simply isn't the case.
unfortunately these people get stuck in their ways...
yep, works perfectly, and even downloads the required SSL library if needed automatically, aMSN is just about the best there is :)

surely this isn't 5 points of funny, it's flaimbait if anything.

these have been sold for years on ebay, they go by the name of "laptop, untested" :P

i'd recommend owenrudge hosting, costs me £15 a year for 250MB webspace, PHP, MySQL, 1GB transfer per month etc.

it is extremely fast on my celeron500, god, i dont want to remember the 40sec startup times of Netscape and the terrible stability(motif version).
