Now that I check my bookmarks, it ends up that this is what I was thinking, and it's not AM at all.
This ISA card is the only AM radio device I could find. Since I have only a single ISA slot (and itw as trouble to find an AthlonXP mobo with one), and it's already taken, it wasn't an option. It is cheap as hell, though!
I personally have been using the scripts found at the Linux Radio Timeshift HOWTO for a few months now, and it does the job perfectly. You can listen to a freshly created MP3 as it's still being recorded. Used in combination with a script such as this, you can stream them shoutcast-style from anywhere.
Since there was only one AM radio tuner for a PC that I could find (and it was USB), I installed an external tuner. It ends up looking really cool to have a 1u rackmount tuner in your rack. Of course if I ever wish to tune to another station, a robotic arm must be built, but I'm content for now.
Revolutions was the first movie I've been to in a long time where people were openly laughing at what was on the screen. A particular cause of mirth was Trinity's painfully extended death scene, and Neo's allegorical crucifixion at the end, complete with Jesus Christ pose.
Either we were at the same showing last night, or it's universal.
So, Gator can sue to have the term 'spyware' disassociated with it. Can I sue them because the banner ad I clicked on said I was going to get a popup blocker, spyware remover [or, insert fake BS here], but instead got Gator?
Why does everyone think we need/want text to speech? Can you imagine an office full of people talking to their computers? Tech support analysts talking to their computers while speaking to customers?
Unless there's some type of brain-plug, The will be the primary input device for a looong time.
Sadly, Lucas could have had my business several times over had he released a crappy Original Edition without the bells and whistles, followed by a Features packed edition, followed by a Special Edition... I'd buy them all.
And when ANH, ESB, and RotJ come out on DVD, you *WILL* buy them all. And likely he'll find a way for it to be "several times over".
This is possible, but to my knowledge there has never been a console-redesign-shrinkage PRIOR to its older sibling arriving on shelves. Sega Master System II, SNES, Atari 2600 too, right?
I guess the Genesis shrunk, but only slightly, and much for the worse.
Anybody who thinks Nintendo is going somewhere apparently has no idea what is going on in the gaming industry.
Many have the "opinion" that nintendo could and should get out of the console business. Yes, the GB/GBA obviously rake it in. It has been rumored that Sega may be pulling their sports titles from the gamecube. However, they certainly are commited to the Cube, as there are a great number of exclusive titles going to this system. Still, if they were to stop all of the "NFL" and "NBA" titles across platforms, they'd be in trouble.
People buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo titles. I know I'm looking forward to playing Zelda and Metroid, but these titles alone aren't enough for me to "get one now". I'll borrow a friends system, or pick one up in a few years.
Let's imagine for a second if they did become software only. Could you imagine the $ they could rake in if they launched an re-port of the Mario classics on the PS2? Or if Zelda were a PS2 title? Sales would increase many-fold. How profitable can it be to be a hardware vendor? (Apple, this goes for you too!)
Oh, and the Gamecube is ahead of the XBox in sales worldwide, even if it is only closely "tied" or a bit behind in the US. Globally, Nintendo is kicking Microsoft square in the jimmy
Actually, this is pretty far off.
Here is a link quoting "Nintendo president Satoru Iwata reported that his company would likely not meet their GameCube userbase goal of 8 million before the end of 2002, a goal that was already reduced from 10 million last October. As of September, Nintendo had sold 6.7 million GameCubes worldwide".
Here is another with xbox info. "Of the total sold to date, 5.4 million units were sold in North America, 1.8 million were sold in Europe and about 850,000 were sold in the Asia-Pacific region, with just less than half of those in Japan". (this adds up to just over 8 million, for the lazy).
They appear to be neck and neck, hardly "kicking in the jimmy", as you put it.
I'm not knocking the XBox, because I like the platform just fine. But Microsoft fanboys that think the XBox is going to dominate need to give up waiting for the exodus to happen. It isn't going to.
No one expects this Xbox to "dominate" anything. The best they could hope for is a good foot in the door for the next generation of consoles. The 3rd party support of the consoles at that time should be the deciding factor of who "dominates" who. It's unlikely that many will fall for Sony's marketing techno-babble hype.
If Microsoft turns into another Shit-Game-Spewing company like Electronic Arts, then I just won't buy their shit.
Indeed, if a game is shitty, it shouldn't be purchased. It seems that MS has a decent track record of releasing decent PC games, as well as Xbox titles. Admit it, you're going home to play Age of Mythology tonight, aren't you!:)
It seems that everyone is considering this new xbox revision to be a security upgrade, which it really doesnt seem to be. A few things on the PCB have changed, such as the USB header now being integrated on the main mobo, and few other things.
It seems to me (and others) that MS did a slight revision to cut costs. While they were at it, they did a few (very minor) changes to the BIOS to deter hackers. It's kind of gotten out of hand how people are calling this the 'new version that MS created just to not be hackable'.
This is partially right. They sold two different mod chips. The X-ecutor, which was a non-software upgradeable one that apparently had MS copyrighted data on it.
The other chip, the bioxx (OpenXbox) came blank, and you had to rumage the internet to put a bios on there. You could put an acutal MS bios on, or one of the various 'hacked' ones (or linux bios, which is perfectly legal).
This one is legal, the other is not, obviously. Unfortunately, the bioxx was (is) the best mod out there, and Lik-Sang became the sole manufacturer of it in August. This leaves a lot of people SOL who'd like to install linux on their Xbox.
In any case, just about any of these mods turns the xbox into the most easily hackable, highly configurable, and very affordable console or media device ever created.
You can have it play mp3s, mame, console emus, and they all work *excellent*. Furthermore, it gives the shameful ability to rent (or download) an xbox game and let you copy it to the hard drive with a simple interface that granny could use.
I personally purchsed my xbox to use it as an 1) an audio device, 2) an emulating machine. I do own loads of carts (sms, nes, tg16, genesis, snes, etc). It truly is convenient to not have to whip out all of this old hardware and plug it in.
121.5MB/sec vs DV's 3.7? This simply isn't a fair comparison.
DV is a compressed NTSC, natively around 22MB/sec.
So, if the gods that created DV compression can do similar with HDTV, we're talking about a 6xdecrease in size. 120/6 = 20MB/sec.
Interestingly, that number puts us right back to having the same hardware that is currently used to edit uncompressed NTSC.
Perhaps the Video Toaster NT and its competitors will come up with a scheme to use the yet-to-be-named HDTV compression schemes via a standard firewire port? That sure would be spiffy.
I live in Madison, which is about 60 miles from Milwaukee. While I have heard of Alexis from our local AM radio morning guy, I've not seen it on the daily local news, newspaper, etc.
Indeed, I had heard of the SLC chick days if not a week or so before I had heard of Alexis. Hell, I know NOTHING about Alexis other than it's "some girl missing" but I DO know that the SLC chick was hunting down some random guy that drove a few thousand miles on his car, from watching CNN two days a week for a half hour at home during lunch.
IMHO, neither should be more than a blurb in the news. Yes it's a tragedy, but didnt some planes just crash in to each other? Didnt some pilots just try to fly a plane drunk?
It's unfortunate that once a story like this breaks, they MUST continue to keep it in the press all of the time because the housewives of the world need to find out whats happening to their new weekly obsession.
As a sysadmin, I understand why he/she doesnt want you to have it- because you don't need it to perform your job! If you were a java developer, certainly they'd hook you up, eh?
Certianly everyone who WANTS to write java shit will download an alternative to a MS jvm anyhow. Those who are just on some horrid web page which has a java nav bar will just click on the silly 'trust microsoft' option and let it install.
The embarassing part is that I can still read data from Iomega Zip disks that are 6 years old
<clik, clik>
That makes one of us.
Who would ever subscribe to Dishnet? DirecTV rules! Seriously, I've seen both, and DirecTV won hands down!
Those of us who want a package for $25.
I'm a Dish subscriber. I saw this message begin to scroll by several times over the weekend, and wondered what the hell was up.
Each time, a few words in, a black bar appeared across the screen to block it out.
This explains a lot. How childish.

There must be the bajillionare fat-cat circle that all made a bet one day, ten years ago.
Perhaps he faked it. Did anyone see it? We didn't really land on the moon, did we? FOX doesn't think we did.

Xbox had dropped in price to $199, obviously. If you are a new DTV subsciber, you can get an ultimateTV box for $100 or less in most cases.
So, we're excited to pay twice as much now?
Sweet, is that a jog dial I see in the middle? Finally, we can play pong and arkanoid properly once they come out!
