Does XP even know what to do with a 2nd processor? I've heard that all those dual core machines running Windows are only operating on one of the two processors.
By the way, if it's a due processor, how much more do you owe on it?
How much carbon is created by a coal power plant for each tonne of carbon removed? If you create more than you remove, then it isn't very useful.
If you insist that it be plugged into some non-burning plant, then all you are doing is removing that non-polluting power from the grid, which has to be made up by polluting power.
Instead of this, why not offer rewards to port the interesting bits of OS/2 over to Linux. Pick whichever X server is closest to OS/2, create a fork, and start reworking it.
OS/2 is basically dead at this point. IBM no longer tries to sell it to consumers, and there isn't enough hardware support for current systems.
Instead of being stuck of a dead-end OS, drag it into the modern era. If you port it to run on top of Linux, then you automatically get newer device drivers, the possibility to run on non-Intel hardware, free development code (gcc, gdb, etc), and a huge quantity of existing software.
Except that there were/are several programs currently available that implement ODF, and there are currently no plans by anyone to implement OOXML. Should I choose to use a format that has been proven to work, or one that is incompletely documented with no successful implementation?
However, you better not try that debunking thing on Global Warming. Try correcting misconceptions and exposing false, unscientific, or non-evidence based claims, and you're dead meat.
There are a lot of issues that need to be known before this could be considered useful technology.
1. Price. Is the initial outlay too expensive?
2. Lifetime. Will it last as long as a current unit.
3. Efficiency. Does it require more or less power than current units.
4. Cooling. Can it freeze ice cubes in 80 degree weather?
5. Size. Will it fit into the same space?
All the article says it that it is quieter. People live with a noisy AC turned on for many hours a day, and a fridge is much quieter than that, so noise isn't that much of a factor.
30 years ago, there was only 10 years of oil left in the ground. Now, 30 years later, were down to 10 years of oil remaining. Amazing how fast it's being used up.
They could have stated that it's the most Pluto-like extra-solar planet discovered, and been just as right. Just because it is a slightly closer match doesn't mean much. It is still not Earth-like enough to matter.
think 500+ Opteron cores, 2 GB RAM per core, a gigabit interconnect with some badass switches, a massive storage array, plus a bunch of UltraSPARC boxes.
Imagine a beowulf cluster of these... ... Someone had to say it. It's slashdot after all.
The reason for these price increases are because the farmers have all switched to growing corn, one of the least efficient crops used to produce ethanol. For every gallon making it to the customer, you need to create and burn an additional five gallons to run all the manufacturing equipment. There are much more efficient crops that could be used, corn being one of the absolute worst, but the wackos have decided to put everything into that one.
They don't have a big enough shark to mount the laser on at the moment.

This isn't going to become a useful technology, like lasers, until you can mount it on a shark!
Microsoft needs a working version of this code to "innovate" into their next version of Windows.
It corresponds to energy radiated by a roughly 2.7 degrees Kelvin
So, 100x cooler would be (100 X 2.7) = 270 degrees Kelvin?
Now, how big is it, in terms of golf balls?
Q: What is the difference between a duck?
A: Two feet.
Now, let's see what horrible responses I get from those who don't understand this joke.
Finally took a bath, did ya?

and others to make things with it.
Like firewood?
I haven't succumbed to superstition (knock on wood), nor will I ever (cross fingers)!

What's django? Hardware? Software? Language? The fine article doesn't really clue me in.
Should I imagine a beowulf cluster of these? Praise our new django masters? Profit? Or pour hot grits into my pants?

stored in specially made clay pots which had a face moulded into the pot.
This face looks like cousin Lenny. He tasted real good. Must be something really tasty stored in here too.
Since it's obviously man-made, and we can't wait for it to reach the 1% proof, that means that the human population is way too large.
We need to start slaughtering them right now! Kill off 99.99% of those horrible, evil humans today. The rest we can hunt down and kill at leisure.
Everybody, we must start today! Grab your uzi and start saving the planet immediately!
...Gaaaa! That's disgusting!

Is that why they look like a smaller, cuter, version of Godzilla? Have any of them developed atomic breath?

I hope none of those guys designed the equipment my eye surgeon will be using when I have my vitrectomy (shudder).
Don't worry, it was designed by Microsoft, and it runs on Vista.
