imo, a vidblog is better when it's more artsy and less bloggy, but there are different camps out there
and while you're in DC, check out the Brickskeller (crappy website). They have the largest selection of beer on the planet. Geek it up by day, and have an excellent brew by night.
I am a printf debugger most of the time. My reasons? There is never a new program to learn. In school, i am frequently changing programming environments, and it is far easier to stick with something that i know is not going to change (how to print to screen) than to go learn the current debugger, only to not be able to use it when i get to next semester. Occasionally i'll bust out some gdb, but its more for curiosity than real need.
Funny, the only time i remember sitting down and really using a debugger was in this old hardcore Borland compiler in high school. The watch window is indeed a wonderful thing.
i dont remember the exact steps that caused it to happen, but at some point i upgraded kde but none of the associated kde packages came up as well...result: no icons on my desktop. hunting it down kiiiinda fixed the problem, but other things were going downhill with the system so i just jumped ship. And again, this wasnt a usual thing, most of the time portage is great. However, i'm back with dselect and loving it
i went through a series of reinstalls on my linux desktop over the summer, and in the month or so when i was on gentoo, i was a fan. There's definitely something to be said for optimizing binaries for your specific hardware. OTOH, the reasons i eventually returned to debian were:
dependency problems in some portage scripts and
having to compile everything.
It may be a great thing, but when i wanted to try a new program right away, waiting for it to compile was a definite pain in the arse. Now, as far as my dependency issues, i'm not sure if they got them resolved with the new version of portage, but it might be worth checking out. At any rate, i love dselect and i dunno if i'll be reinstalling now that i got the unofficial kde3 debs working
Yea i gotta second the recommendation of lode runner and taskmaker. some other cool old-school mac games: maelstrom, and for really old but great, scarab of RA. of course, this was back when i was pretty young, so these games might actually not keep a monkey entertained....ah well, they kept me entertained. And if i remember correctly, they were free
if a kid has been going to a school in one district for a while, then they find out that the family actually lives somewhere different (becuase of a redrawn line), let the kid stay in his old school
and just to weigh in on the downloading issue, i gotta say that because of the large # of albums i've downloaded off p2p networks, i have gone to more and more concerts of the bands that i have found by downloading. the bands that i listen to get show revenue, and i usually pick up a shirt or hoodie if they are really good. Maybe i should be paying for the album, but i figure i'm reimbursing them in other ways (word of mouth too)
