possibly, but let my counter that.. Since owning an Xperia (Z compact) as well as an Xperia tablet, I've put Sony on my personal blacklist. Forget about security updates when they don't sell your model anymore. It also comes with lots of bloatware that you can't really remove without the device becoming unstable (I tried). After another push message by Sony's 'social whatever' on Kim Kardashian I got a Nexus 5x and haven't looked back.
Too bad, the hardware was OK...
In the same period I updated the firmware on a Sony TV. Afterwards I couldn't get HD channels anymore. Couldn't go back to the latest version since 'Sony wants you to have the best experience' so they don't support reflashing to older firmware.
    I'm done with Sony

  3. I am actually quite familiar with the Toyota way. It is very impressive and it's impact on quality is one of the reasons I'm happy with my own Toyota. It's got over 200000 Km and I have never spent more than the official planned maintenance costs, no 'surprises'.

I do fail to see however why you think he thought he was going to out-Toyota Toyota? Of the traditional car manufacturers Toyota certainly is an exception in it's management/quality approach as well as innovation (they championed hybrid tech when no-one cared) although not as bold as Tesla.

Biggest issue is that the unlock via a text message doesn't work (for me). You first have to click a captcha, then they want to send you a text to the number you registered. That then fails, with the message that they can't text to your carrier, even though I confirmed that number by a text sent by them... Then it takes support 2-3 days to unlock your account with apologies and the message that they don't reply to emails.

Not a big thing, it's just twitter, but crappy nonetheless for such a big name in social media

Latest tweet is talking about escape pods, which I think is a lot more feasible. A combination might be better with the tubes in the narrow places to make sure the pods don't get stuck. Then you don't need miles of them.
A watertight (flexible) pod that restricts the movement of the kids enough to prevent panic to lead to issues seems to me the best option to 'transport' the kids through.

If it hadn't been for the Evoluent vertical mouse I would still be using an IntelliMouse also. Still use a MS Ergonomic keyboard. For years I kept a collection of Gen 1 Natural keyboards alive (including PS2->USB adapters), but the 4000 model is a good replacement so those are now gone.
Now if they would finally make a keyboard that is able to lock the caps-lock, which I never use anyway.......

I was talking about where you develop something, if you come across a product that is only compatible with Oracle Java, choosing Python really is no option :-). BTW I don't know of that many products that require Oracle Java, probably most are Oracle products. And when you're in bed with Oracle, you're in trouble with their view on licenses and doing business anyway....

  13. I'm not one to defend Oracle's business practices, but OpenJDK is where the free lunch is at. It has largely the same codebase. Just stick with that. It also supports major versions for quite some time, backed by both Oracle and Red Hat.

Justified or not, people invest because of what they think Tesla will be in the long term. And, like others said, Tesla is selling the cars at a profit, but has invested heavily, which will take some time to pay off.
The reason why many, including me, believe Tesla has a chance to become a dominating car brand is not just that they make cool electric cars (the Leaf may sell well, and be a very sensible choice, but is hardly cool). It is also how they changed the speed of development of new models, the OTA updates which means your car keeps getting better. That is also a big chance for the car industry.

It's a gamble, as buying stock always is. I'm planning to buy some $TSLA. I know it's a gamble, but I just like the tech and how Tesla has made it all a reality. If it hadn't been for Tesla, the hybrid tech from the Prius would probably be the most advanced use of electric power. All those other electric cars would not have been there if Tesla hadn't shown it to be viable. The Leaf maybe, but other brands... At the very least Tesla sped things up a lot.
