Do the numbers in the article include time to burn the snail DVDs and then read the data back off of them at the end point? What about the time required to attach the DVDs to the snail harness (I'll assume they've got a harnessed snail ready while burning the DVDs)...
Probably still several orders of magnitude faster than dial-up.
Adobe Reader 7 (why drop the Acrobat name they've been pimping for years?) actually starts up fairly quickly (the OS X version starts up almost as fast as OS X's Preview.app)... probably an order of magnitude faster than Acrobat 6 did.
I can't really think of a game that bragged about its celebrity voice actors and didn't suck.
Also, hire amateur scabs like me to do the voice work, I'd love to do it! Pity there aren't many (any?) game development houses in Ottawa (although there are lots about two hours away in Montréal).
Features cut from the various Starter Editions have included support for multiple user accounts; networked printers; the ability to personalize desktops with multiple looks and feels for different users; and support for screen resolutions above 800 X 600 DPI (dots per inch).
Wow! Where can I get one of these 800x600 dpi displays?!? And a 512MB (or 1GB if you want to be able to double-buffer) video card to drive the ~12800x10240 (on a 19" - 131,072,00 pixels!) screen...
I believe (sorry, no reference handy) that this is mostly for aesthetics, not advertising dollars from Apple they look better than the generic PC parts. You'll note that you almost never see a Mac OS X GUI (or any other recognizable GUI for that matter... "I know this... this is UNIX...").
I've seen a lot of obviously Apple PowerBooks in shows/movies with a big sticker over the Apple logo on the back of the screen. Clearly not product placement.
"We intend to make 'John Romero and American McGee Present Katamari Damacy 3' darker and more edgy. The Prince is bound to have some issues with the unsupportive King of All Cosmos, and in JMaAMPKD3, you'll be able to play out some of their strained interactions..."
I hit Ctrl-S (or Command-S on my iBook or C-X C-S in EMACS) every time I get up for tea/coffee/bathroom/whatever. And every time I finish something significant.
I've been "boycotting" EA's stuff for a couple of years now... not because of how they run a development sweatshop, but because they keep releasing crap.
I don't know about you, but my existing XP box has a monitor, USB mouse and USB keyboard. If I bought a Mac Mini, I could plug these devices into it... no extra cost.
I was lucky enough to need an OS X system a few months before the Mac Mini was released; the 12" iBook (you know, bottom of the line) I got is fantastic. Much better than my previous (Dell) laptop.
Hitting up eBay for an older, complete G3 system probably won't be too expensive.
Speaking of the Hand of God, remember the absolutely horrible ending to the otherwise great Stephen King book, The Stand?
The miniseries with Gary Sinise was pretty decent, too.
The problem is that you're testing one CPU architecture only; gcc 4 has lots of improvements for non-x86 platforms (PowerPC, for example).

The original game was one of the reasons why I bought one of the new tiny PS2s to sit alongside my GameCube.
When the PS3 is released, PS2s will probably be given way in cereal boxes, etc. so just bide your time.
I'm sure BeOS' POSIX stuff would compile clamav without any problems.
If only I had mod points...
The Mac Mini is only 1.32 kg; find a way to strap a good battery to that thing and your iPod Brick is reality!

There is (or used to be; it's been a while) a Dr. Fear at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario.
If I had a name like that, and worked at a kid's hospital, I'd be dressing up like a super hero when I had to go to work.

It was called "LAN Manager" before it was built into Windows (at the "Windows for Workgroups" release).
Ran on DOS and OS/2, IIRC.

Sounds like a good way to get on that mysterious and secret No Fly list. You're clearly a seditious liberal!
Isn't it cool how "liberal" has become the new "Commie"?
Dang, I was betting on the US invading Iran next, not Privacy.
I guess the travel/transportation costs will be lower than shipping an army over to the Middle East. Oh, wait, there's one already there...

That should be "rank and file" not "rack and file".
Note that The Dew may be less EXTREME!!!!!!1! in other countries, such as Canada (where The Dew has no caffeine).
Wow, you sure trust your software!

That assumes that either of the two parties that stand a chance of winning in the US are different in any noticable way.

Yeah, that show made me want to hit the featured children's parents.
I cast Magic Missile at the darkness.
