For most people electricity costs are tiered. I know this is adjusted for peak hours during the day, but if majority of people in a region go to EV cars, then peak demand will shift to the PM hours when people get home to work. Seems like the economics are shifting and maybe not even as good as what seems true today.
Even so, I think EV vehicles are worth pursuing, but I do think they are luxury items and will remain so for another 5 maybe 10 years.
It takes time and money. I donate to wiki because I think they have the best offering and they deserve more resources to keep it up - no it isn't perfect.
Given this story and most posters feel that AI is long way away, yet we see more and more jobs being done by robots or eliminated by computers? How much intelligence were we really using in our day-to-day jobs?

You can disable siri. i know that Apple could be devious and be scarfing all your voice recordings anyway, but still. We live in a world where we have to cope with one of the "bigs." for me that big is still Apple.
I recently did a remodel, very modern in style . I re-installed my Bose 5 - 1 wall mount direct/reflecting speakers I've had for years. Upon first play, I was thinking, wow i don't remember that over-the-top reverb I was hearing in Sting's "if i ever loose my faith in you." next up steely dan, still I'm hearing wayyy too much reverb. Took me a few tracks to realize that my sleek modern remodel with wood floors was the cause. Just adding a rug in the room helped.
I've been with them forever. What was great for a while was customer service. You could go into the store and get quality help. Many times they would repair or replace my stuff with little or no discussion - just took care of it. I don't think they were ever about the top hardware; they were always about the hardware/software integration and therefore the best customer experience. Same when they started their own stores. And FWIW, I do believe Cook when he says Apple is not about data mining on it's customers to sell it off.
To be a leader again Apple, get back to customer service par excellence.
I have watch 3 and i do like it, but it is not a cell phone replacement. Cell service on your watch is spotty, and text messaging implementation is stupidly bad. You will be very disappointed if you think watch only mode will get you through the day. This coming from a pretty big Apple fan.
I can't imaging swapping out batteries packs weighing 2000lbs being very practical in time or money for farmers in their fields.
That's because your imagination has atrophied, or because your ignorance is both broad and deep. Most farm properties of any noticeable size have a forklift.
What do you do when the forklift battery dies? Oh! you buy another fork lift.
Face rec is the one thing holding me back. I've got a 7+ and I love it, but I won't be using a phone that uses my face to unlock. No fingerprint scanner and I'm looking at what other options I have. I just wish there was a phone option that has a fingerprint scanner and is not tied to the google ecosystem. I don't use google products.
Just to put this out there - I hated idea of facial recognition also. Got the X a year ago and I love it. You get used to the facial system surprisingly fast. Also works in the dark.
Does that make any sense to you at all? Why would he spend the resources of his company if he thought the market was that small?
Actually this came from a story he told. Before there were commercial computers, he had his engineers design one on paper. They then took the design to 20 potential customers to judge interest. The actual quote was 'I was hoping to get 5 orders, we got 18.'
Hoping for 5 orders out of potential 20, for a machine that doesn't exist, is far different than thinking there will only ever be a market for 5 computers.
Not only that, but how could he have said that only a decade ago? A decade ago I had more than five computers. That's not even getting cute and counting CPUs in phones, devices etc. Totally dumb premise of a story.
Just stop with these nonsense stories. Every year or two for 20+ years there will be another "it has finally been revealed" story all over the news. Same with Amelia Earhardt, Jack the Ripper, and Area 52. These mysteries have been solved so many times already, but there is always another "for sure" answer. Lets stop giving them free press unless they produce hard evidence.
Um, "Area 52" is surely a mystery, but everyone knows that Area 51 is where the keep the crashed aliens.
I've never seen "kmph" before, but "kph" seems to be an Americanism. Kilometres per hour is abbreviated to "km/h" in countries that use metric units.
Your post made me wonder - how come the "Metricites" never re-defined time in decimal ten units? you would think that minutes, hours, days & so on would drive them nuts.
$200,000/yr puts you in the 33% tax bracket. Adding up all your tax brackets at $200,000 will yield an effective tax rate of 24.7%, leaving you with more than $150,000 after taxes. Factor in your $4000/month, and you're sitting at $100,000 of spending money.
I'm not sure about how much of a lifestyle improvement this is either, but it seems to me that having a disposable income that is 25% higher than the base salary for the average programmer ($82k per BLS) probably makes you more better off than not...
California will take 9%, plus some city, muni bonds, association fees. etc. It will add up to around half when all is accounted for.

Yup. ... I dare anyone who thinks it is better. I double dare them. ...
I triple DOG dare them!

Please stop with the damn nagware on every screen. Surely some cookie can track the givers and give us a break for our donations?
A 3-way debate between Alexa, Siri and Trump.. who would win?
Have them duel it out on Jeopardy.

Can't wait for that.
Will also mean that they will have to put down all their critters.

Have you been on twitter lately? Apparently this is already standard practice.
Okay that was good. Mods c'mon.

Would be better, no?
... Still not as bad as "inflammable" and "flammable" or "regardless" and "irregardless."

yeah, time only occurs to us because we have memory. Without memory, there is no time. Only now.

Agree with your post. For the tech to flourish, it will need dedicated highway lanes. For most city circumstances, tech should be disabled for now.
yeah but: welcome to the future where the robots run you over if you are in the wrong spot.
Even in NYC peop'll stop for you, just shoot you a dirty look or a finger.
