    I've seen this. It's awsome.

    Highlights:
    -A study of the effectiveness of kids nagging their parents for stuff (to help the Corp increase sales!)
    -Why you don't see people singing Happy Birthday on TV anymore.

    WARNING: If you live it the USA you will not want to drink your milk after seeing this!

    Good question.
    If we are to eat MS' IE lunch we must make Mozilla and Firefox look less foreign for new converts.
    The IE skin should be included by default for both Mozilla and Firefox.

    Think about it.
    The first thing a new convert will think is:
    Man, it looks so different. I wish it could look bit more like what I am used to.

    This DOES work!
    I had a CD-ROM burner do this to me 6-7 years ago.
    I has 12" away from the drive and it nearly got me.
    The tray openned and the disk was spinning and bumping inside the tray like it was about to explode. It eventually hit one of the disc stoppers on the tray and that made it fly up and away. The wall behind me stop it, otherwise the 5 1/4" spinning ginsu would have done a lot of damage.

    If you own it , it's yours to do what you please. Copy, lend, destroy, etc

    Imagine if they were more honest and said instead: LoTR, *license* it today!
    Joe-six-pack would probably not be so enticed to fork over $ for something that he can't own outright.

    #1: If the driver package is a .MSI file, then you might be able to set a Property to a certain value and FORCE it to install regarless of language.
    (Heck, if you have it kicking around I'll take a look at it for you.)

    #2: Repackage on an English install of Windows, then use the new package to install on your Japanese install of Windows. This is doable but involves lots of Trial-n-error. Might still not work depending on what silly things they've done inside the real package (DRM, Machine fingerprinting,...).

    BTW: My day job is packaging Windows apps but I long to return working on Unix boxes. So much simpler and less BS.

    The Gov. in Ontario was going to to do this for Wellfair cheques and they had to backpaddle in under 24Hours after it became public.

    Let them build the units but charge the for the disposal fee when they can't sell them!

    I'm still waiting for the fabled Open Source Cross Platform Virus that can be deliever to all mail system. Sure it require the recipient to uncompress and compile the virus, but it can hit ALL platforms.

    That will be a .net virus that also runs in mono on linux platforms.
    Give it 5 years...

    Why can't they just let it compile with the SVG in but have it disabled in the Preferences menu?

    That way, the people who want to try it don't have to "Roll their own" Mozilla just to enable SVG.

    I see your point.
    It would be the high school version of Google.
    People would come out with a bunch of tricks in order to get get a better grade or ranking.

    This e-grade-ing will work for about 3-4 years tops. After that, only hackers will get good grades.

    Jocks and bimbos won't be able to use their "talents" to help their grade. PCs don't care for sports or Blow-jobs.

    Since SourceForge is part of OSDN and they have Lawyers and business people, why don't they help?
    They more or less created the catch-22 situation. Heck, they could even make a small profit.

    This would be a win-in situation:
    Pregrammers get to program without having the IRS after them for $50/y taxes.
    SourceForge gets a new source of revenue by sorting out the legal mumbo jumbo.

    It's harder to tax a hard drive than $.

    Unless you have a big success of a project I wouldn't worry about it. Most IRS-type gov. agencies go after small fish. Investigators cost money. Does it make sense busting a $10k/year OSS project to extract $5k of taxes (incl.penalties) when it will cost them $20k to perform?

    Now, if some corp. gives tonnes of money to some gov. official to go after OSS projects because they are hurting the corp.'s bottom line...You are Frelled!

    And if you want to register your project as a business, under what country? What if your project starts with mostly UK members and then all or most leave to be replaced with Australian members? Remember, these people are PROGRAMMERS not international Corp. lawyers!

    Finally!
    Someone who has realized that to have a meeting you have to TELL people about!
    Once you schedule a meeting in a Calandaring app, you need to send emails to the participants.
    The Address book in Thunderbird/Mozilla is not that useful compared to Outlook/Maximizer and other organizers. If I could have a Moz-based Organizer I could finally kill the VMware box that runs Outlook.

    AVSERVT.EXE is the FTP server that Sasser uses.
    It will show up as a very hungry process (77%+ CPU)

    Kill it and then you'll be able to patch the box.

    The SciFi channel is in a "Oh my God, you want us to SPEND MONEY on PRODUCTION!?" phase.

    Try the entire TV industry. Unless it's cheap to make and extremely sucessful (Ie: Friends) they are "gambling".

    In the old 13 channel universe, they could get with having so-so shows that developed into great shows over 1-2 season period. viewers had no choice to watch filler sometimes. The rating system was primitive so that bad shows may not show as such for months.

    In a our 500 channel universe, however, filler shows do not last more than 4 shows, never mind even 1/2 a season! The rating system delivers real-time numbers. The only thing they are willing to "Gamble" on is BS-reality shows because they know that viewers do not have attachments to these types of shows.
