I am an Apple help and run the "Unofficial iMovie
FAQ". I believe it is either works pretty good or runs like crap.
Symptoms seem to vary based on CPU and memory. The most happy
group are the dual processor folks. I have a movie here that
shows me running top, playing a QT movie and also editing and playing with
the new iMovie 3, on top of that there was the overhead of doing a 6 FPS screen
capture. So when it is running right, it is fast!!!
I have also received e-mails for 3rd party plug-in manufactures that state:
"Some of the other plug-ins have a problem with screen redraw
using NavServices (open/save dialog), but other parts of iMovie have this
same problem. Some of the titles have the same centering problem as the Apple
plug-ins, so we'll need to see how to address this."
So some folks have "fixed" there system by removing all third party plug-ins.
Some people say that shrinking the window to the smallest it can be "helps"
with performance.
Some people have reported that running your Unix cleanups and prebinding
"fixes" everything up:
1. Open Terminal (/Applications/Utilities).
2. Type: sudo sh/etc/daily
3. Press Return.
4. Enter your Admin password when prompted, then press Return.
5. Quit Terminal when the task is complete. OR
Run Mac Janitor to be sure every is nice and clean
AND
1. Open Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/).
2. Select the Mac OS X startup disk in the left-hand column.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click Repair Disk Permissions. IF ALL ELSE FAILS and your still running slow
-Update Your Prebindings
1. Open up Terminal (Applications/Utilities)
2. Type: sudo update_prebinding -root/
3. Press return
4. Enter your Admin password when prompted, then press Return.
4. Wait... (you will see text-glore scroll by for about 10-20 minutes)
5. Quit Terminal when the task is complete.
I am personally not having any issues other than the following:
o Cannot center titles
o Cannot "always" reverse a clip
o Transitions add a black or white frame
o Timecode date/timestamp defaults to today
With all that being said Apple should have released this as a beta
or done a a better job in QA. I have told them so too! I urge
everyone to keep on Apple's backs and report all errors to them. They
must have expected this in some way because "Report feedback to Apple" is
a menu option!
Get over yourself... really. Everyone is a racist in on form or another. I have seen it all over the world in many forms. This is a very, very weak example.
You probably get offended by the word 'Nigger' but blacks use it like the word 'and', promote it in songs, and as a term of endearment like, 'that is my nigger'
The Blacks nor Asians do not need another champion... really.
Cry me a river! It does not say "Japped-up", "Gooked-up", or "Chinked-up". PC America, everybody is a victim.
The term "ricer" started from the motorcycle days of old when all the "rice-burners" came to the US. It referred to the origin not the people. Now the term "ricer" just suggests a younger driver, with and under-powered car, ground effects, a big wing, and a fart can in the back. These cars can be or American, German, or Asian build but they still are referred to as "riced out"
Feel free to take the test to see if you are a "ricer" http://www.goingfaster.com/spo/you_might_be_a_rice r_if.html

Umm that is funny because I bought a Mac because it was faster with MPEG encoding and rendering than my PC.
I can actually start an MPEG encode on my PC (800 Mhz), SSH to my mac(533 Mhz), SCP the file over there, encode it and SCP it back before windows is even 1/2 done.
America will never put up with 8 HP

239 MPG Car

· Score: 3, Insightful
American are number driven consumers. Trying to sell a highway vehicle here with 8 horsepower? Never happen. We have lawnmowers with more HP. You guys know it is the same with computers with the megahertz myth.
People do not understand power to weight ratios or torque. I can not tell you how many people thought there were faster than my 500 LBS 1.1 liter Honda CBR. I would say things like, "Look 500 pounds and 160 HP. Let me get you a calculator. I do not care if your car has 400 HP, I will cream you."
Now if you were to market the car as the "The 0-60 in 8 seconds / 200 MPG car" then you would have something! But you could never advertise 1 liter - 8 HP. No no.
I have been doing various things for years to
try and counter spam. I recently joined Spamcop.net and have blocked and
reported over 195 pieces of spam since Nov 1st. What a blessing!
I never guessed I was getting an average of 13+ spams a day.
All my POP account are forwarded though thier service and questionable
mail is moved to 'Held Mail'. Once in 'Held' status you give them a
quick check to be sure they are really spam (I can usually tell by the
headers) and then it is a 1-click report to report them to thier ISP and
relays. Addtional filters can be put on, but I have yet to have a
need. I am VERY impressed!
If things do get though, the inital filters, you have multiple ways of
reporting it from e-mail to cutting and pasting the headers and
message. All this for less than $3 a month. Money well
spent not to have to change my email address every few months.
I put in a SuperDrive myself http://www.dvdcreation.com/2001/08_aug/tutorials /a 03install.htm and bought the "upgrade" from the Apple store for $19.95.
As an Apple appointed "Helper", on the Apple forum, I can tell you people are going to be SCREAMING about this one. I have no real use for it since I have my own e-mail and web services but to the millions (yes really) that do, Oohwee. They threw a fit when the had to pay $20 for an OSX upgrade. Wait till they read about the $49 "special".
You cannot give people stuff then snatch it away, then say PAY. Wait, maybe you CAN, it worked for Netscape. No wait...
What better way of forcing companies who create Mac programs to make an OSX version.
I will NOT buy OS9 programs since I refuse to use it. I like and trust Unix. Granted I do not have $$$ invested in OS 9 so I cannot feel the pain in your wallet. Hopefully the upgrade won't be too expensive.
Well in August when Apple announces it new line of systems. Buy one THEN!
It is obvious, with a PII, you are NOT using the system for video editing so I guess you can buy bottom of the line. Get Yellow Dog Linux and you will get 5 years out of the new box, without having to cough up more $$$.
I have 2 linux boxes at home and hardly EVER use them since I got my dual 533 with OSX.
I bought the dual 533 right before they announced the dual 800's:). Lesson learned.
All you coders always bitching you can't or won't affords and Apple, here is your chance to get one for free. Top of the line.
Go get yourself an old iMac on eBay or something. All the development software is free and if you do not win, at least you will have a machine to run a "free" streaming server from. And yes, there is source code avaliable for Darwin.
Now, get busy you have till April 5th to do a simple port.
I think the difference is when Apple updates the OS say from 10 to 10.1 all the competitions programs don't break! Toast has worked like a charm right along.

Yep I have had the same IBM "click" keyboard for years and I have a spare sitting there.
I would feel lost without it.
Everyone that bought thier PC at Wal-Mart in the last few months.

I do not know if you guys remember "Opus in Heat" But he wore a tie. Looks the same. ;)
:)
Who is that GIANT guy in the video? He looks like he spends ALL his time in front of a computer.
As far as the taxi being late.... Sure he got lost

Appletalk is supported so I assume that OSX is also supported via NFS? Anyone. I was not quite sure.
Yeah a month is usually the highest uptime you will get since a security patch, that requires a reboot, comes out about every month. haha

Guess that makes the M$ record (7-3) but they are not playing as well as they used to.
