    your site looks like it does fine on its own merit...but, based on your post...today you have one more reader!

    i couldnt agree with you more, i have a small home studio that centers around a DAW. as a musician who has recently discovered the wonders of digital recording/computer music i must say that producers definately do not get enough press...especially with todays mainstream music...sometimes it seems as if its 30% performance (thats being nice) and 70% production.

    just from doing this as a hobby i can see how much of a talent it really is!

    i dont mind people using it so much when all they are doing is correcting minor, minor, errors in what would otherwise be a perfect take...

    but, ever since that damn cher song (and probably a little before that) people have been cranking the settins to hard tune a voice purposely using it as a vocal effect...its so OVERUSED it makes me sick...although, the funny part is that the biggest cluprits are the country music sluts. they milk that shit for all its worth.

    i agree just because some people are 100% geek and have no desire to be built or in shape doesnt make them half a man/woman...however, there are many here who believe that because somebody does make that choice they are either stupid or compensating for a lack of [pick your favorite] in their lives...honestly as long as people arent selling crack on my street corner whatever contribution to society they choose to make is a positive one.

    stuff like this really pisses me off...

    i'm 24, i'm single, i fly to different parts of the country to meet my friends and get pissed at verious clubs...i act like i'm still in high school/college...

    i was an all state football player in high school, i played sports all day growing up...loved being outside, and still do.

    i'm aslo a computer engineer, have a very good job, love computers, games, and hacking anything electronic...i'll play games for hours on end (sometimes) and love coming up with stupid little ideas for programs/projects to work on just to
    scratch my geek itch.

    some of my best friends are jocks, some of my best friends are hardcore geeks...you know what, they are all intriguing people and each bring something new and fun to the table...and when we all hang out, my jock friends and my geek friends get along famously...they dont think about eachother in terms of what they enjoy doing or who they were in high school, they have moved past that most people have...many people here havent...its sad really...the majority of poeple have a good balance of everthing in life...its sad to see people here stereotyping others in the same way that the rest of the world stereotypes them...sooner or later somebody is gonna have to be the bigger person...

    i'm probably in the minority for liking to watch football, but you have to look at it from fox's perspective...face it, NFL Sunday has one of the highest viewing audiences, in order to keep their sponsors and contracts with the NFL they have to pre-empt other shows...and unless another show could possibly compete with the NFL they are gonna loose. i get tired of hearing people complain how the NFL interrupted their favorite show...you cant blame the NFL or sports for this...its the morons at fox who put the show there in that timeslot to begin with.

    i find the drug analogy a bit absurd...yes, UI's and API's should undergo rigerous testing, but when was the last time a person was killed by an underdevelopled and tested program??? there are some notable exceptions (like that xray machine a couple of decades or so ago that was giving radiation doses that were off by a factor of ten)....but buy and lagre people who grab the latest instant messenger beta dont have to worry about being physically hurt.

    drugs on the other had can KILL people if they are not understood and tested fully.

    maybe i'm missing the boat here but, i agreee with the idea...i just think the analogy is a bit much.

    if jon is a big enough boy to write articles based primarily on his opinoin, then he must be prepard to deal with people who disagree...in industry, we call this "having our own opinions." and if my opinion is that he is writing crap...i have the right to say so. and if that makes jon cry...well...tough. anybody who consiously chooses to make themselves (opinoins or otherwise) public has just given their consent to be subjected to public opinion.

    of all the drivel, this is my favorite piece of horses@!t.

    by implying that something is the "heart" of something you are defining it as a central component capable of breating life into an entity...napster did no such thing...it was an f'in tool used by people (the only true heart of the net) to share music...thats it.

    the "pivotal-period" of napster was not pivotal for the net you ass. has the net physically changed as a result of napster...no...it was pivotal for several money making groups and lawmakers...and for us...well, there are other programs out there.

    it blows my mind how the uneducated press can contort the net into being this entity capable of changing our lives in ways we could not dream...when will they understand that its simply a conduit for transmitting information...its the information that can change our lives...will broadband help our society reach new levels of civilization??? no, things like nuclear fusion will...but then again, even jon cant pretend to know something about that.

    this sounds cool...well at least the webcam part, face it cameras in bars just make for excellent comedy!!! anybody concerned about privacy in a bar should have their head examed.

    what concernes me is the robots, being served by one is just fine if i order a pint...but what about the occasion when i fancy a drink. if im a regular patron (who spends considerable money in such a place) will the bots know enough to be "generous" with the alcohol??? or are we going to get perfectly rationed 1 oz. shots mixed in our drinks...these are the pressing questions we should be asking.

    i understand where you are coming from, and i definately agree with you. however, i feel my point was missed. you see, i'm talking about the understanding of financial matters and money as they relate to the capitalistic society in which we live. this is in no way related to the individual. money is the last thing which individual happiness should be based on, the are many more important things like love, family, health, knowledge...etc. however, the framwork of our society (which is composed of millions of individuals) is driven primairly by money. there is nothing cynical about that, its fact. being able to function in society and provide oneself the ability to care for the ones they love, plan for the future, or simply save to get a new tv all requires money. having a basic understanding of financial issues and how money works, is very important and is not limited to CPA's and business majors. being a computer geek does not exlcude me from having to worry about such matters.
