When [some sort of a] Science major hits the lab, and he discovers something, or works with something that wasn't covered in his classes he is toast?
It would seem to me that the smarter, more intellectual student would take what he learned in his classes, and apply them into use under a new situation/environment. He isn't toast, he learned some skills. It also seems to me that a more intellectual video game player would take what he sees in a video game and apply it to the real world. These are people who apply the humour from the Monkey Island games, the problem-solving of puzzle games, the social structure of a massively multiplayer game, and yes, what makes countries/people tick from the civilization games. Generally, the good games are the ones that give you these types of insight (Something like fantasy games, while we don't live in a world of dragons, we do live in a world of villains and problems).
Your argument is extremely one sided. Hell, video games can give you an escape from reality when you need it too. I'd be fucking depressed if I never got to visit a world of fantasy sometimes.
I'm really tired of stories like/similiar to this. Everytime I see one, I have to think of something I once saw another slashdotter say...
Anyone who knows anything about statistical analysis knows that the results of a wide-scale advancement (ex. movie piracy) will not start to show up properly (read: without major bias) until about five years. Only then can you actually start to analyse what's happened to the industry.
That being said, I still don't think that movie piracy will have much of an impact. Even my uncle knows that the movie quality is crap, and if he really wanted to see it he would see it in a [home, real] theatre.

In fact, screw the chess game.
I want an all-out windows/linux match of monopoly.
Just FYI, up here in Canada they decided to put brail on the money itself. It's pretty neat stuff, shows that they are really thinking.
The money isn't different sizes, but it is different colours and to tell you the truth, it just feels a lot better. Add that to the fact that we have $1 and $2 coins, and we have a new-age money system.
Unfortunatly [for obvious reasons] Linux Geeks need porn. Generally porn sites don't want codec backed by no one they have ever heard of. Apple is a good backing.
Until porn sites shift to DivX, this is very useful:).
This is obviously not an insightful nor informative post, but I do need to ask a question as most of the posts here are directed toward (god bless 'em) the American consumer. My question is what retailers have you Canadians had success with?
I know I could just ship them from the states, but most people really don't see the hidden costs. I've ran up bills of $70 in shipping from ThinkGeek when the cost of the products is just over 100. Unfortunatly it still costs money to cross the border and if the retailer isn't so great, they might ship the out of stock items at a later date and the in stock items first running a shipping cost of nearly double.
I'm not to sure as to what to think about FFXI being online. On one hand, I'm happy to see a major company with a well known-name backing up the Genre, but on the other (and much more acurate) hand I know that it is way too soon in the genre for a major series to get converted over.
At least if anything, we should be learning from past mistakes and problems and put games into a sort of D&D-style MUD type of play with lots of PVP combat. Instead what we are getting is a half-assed game about beating monsters for hours on end while talking with others.
I am by no means a professional photographer, and I tend to grade my pictures by the oooh and ahhh scale but I know exactly what you are looking for.
A digital camera that truly rivals a normal one. The problem is, once you want that you're going to end up with something high-end, maybe even in the $500+ range. Believe me, it is worth it.
The camera(s) I highly recommend are part of the Canon PowerShot G series. The newest member is expensive however has absolutely every feature you mentioned. It uses nice compact flash cards instead of crappy memory sticks or slow CDRs too and even takes 4 megapixel shots. If the G2 is out of your pice range you may be able to pick up a G1 somewhere, as the difference is small (I have a G1). The macro focus on it is truly magnifigant too. If you take a look at my DeviantART page you can see some examples of what I have taken with my trusty old G1.
Can't say to much more without sounding like a totally shameless plug, just I recommend going to a store and checking it out.
Well, duh, nobody wants to watch some slashdot nerd dance.
What you should have done is called it "BRITNEY SPEARS BIG HOOTERS XXX XXX LOTS OH XXX BABY XXX ILLEGAL SUPERSTAR BRITNEY SPEARS SPEARS BRITNEY YUMMY DEFINITELY NOT SOME SLASHDOT NERD DANCING" because we all know that one of those files is bound to be the real thing.
Speaking of which... what is your user name on Kazaa?
It's simple, quick, has a decent interface for installing (non-graphical, non-slow) and once you get it up and running, it is running. It was one of the few distrubutions left where you can get it up, upgrade the kernel to whatever the hell you want and it will still run. It knows it's target group and delivers.
Packages are good, decently up to date (now) and are not overkill. I couldn't be more pleased
I'm just wondering here, has anyone considered the possibility that this is a flashback yes, but a flashback to something that got cut by the final airing so it seems new to eyes. I know that this has happened with countless clip shows in the past, where people are very confused as to which episode it came from, because it was cut.
No, on 9/11 the world was not attacked by mysterious aliens. Aliens and the paranormal have fascinated people for ages, and some things do not change, buildings or no buildings.
FYI: Generally (and this is true for a lot of shows), that while the actually production process starts 9 months before showing, that doesn't mean that everything is finished 9 months before. Things can be spliced in almost up to the point of showing. The Bin Laden bit was probably an add-in, but either way, I sure as hell don't agree with it. It cheapens a truely "evil" person, and makes it feel like people died in vain.
"Hail That" And don't forget one thing, this is coming from the same place that encouraged different celebrities to box it out. They also encourage shows like Greg The Bunny and love to have abusive/phony husbands get wives and encourage shallowness ala "Who Wants To Marry a Multimillionare".
Sorry fox, we all know you had it in for Futurama from the start.
I'm sure there is a lot of you out there that like the Simpsons, just don't know the whole "deal" around the new seasons, and just exactly who works on the Simpsons nowadays.
For those interested, I highly recommend taking a look at the L.I.S.A.. It's a great, huge list of anything you've ever wondered about the Simpsons, and just what the hell happened in the last few years.
The problem faced by many is the fact that it uses mini-dvds as a format rather than full dvds. Those "leetos" with DVD burners have a tough time with that, and mini-cds don't hold enough. I expect that in due time, there will be projects, but by design it is not nearly as PC-like as the dreamcast (could work with MS windows CE) or the Xbox (well... it is a PC:).
Hmm... I see a flaw in your logic. People read gamespot in order to figure out what games are worth spending their money on.
When you have to pay to figure out what you are going to pay for it feels kind of stupid. Not to mention the fact that people *still* don't trust online transactions.
So, what you are saying is...

It seems to me that the end result of this would be that it is a stalemate (Draw).
I mean, both AMD and Intel processors can crunch the same amount of data, just not in the same amount of time...
and the other guy's turn kind of depends on how long one person/machine takes...

Most expensive bit by bit thing? Duh, it's "What is six times nine".
Whole worlds have been thrown away trying to calculate that! Screw the answer, I want to know the question
I've got this wierd feeling that...
I think you meant ROFL as your acronym as what you said would imply 'rolling on the laughing floor'. Though, maybe in space...
It's all fun and games until someone visits a gopher site.

Nothing to be alarmed about here, folks.

Seriously, I'm wondering how exactly they "estimate" that.
Since when is Canada a socialist hellhole? Man, someone should have told me!

I think the words of the immortal Thinkgeek can pretty much sum up the /. reader's attitudes towards 90% of senators.
"Go away or I will replace you with a very small shell script"
If they filmed all three movies at the same time, does that mean that all DVDs will be done in advance as well? T
:)
They could probably finish it up quick and spend two years getting some really nice features
