Nicotine isn't all that toxic, and nearly all drugs that modify brain chemistry are in some manner addicting, insofar as the brain has to readjust when you get off 'em. If there's no intention of nicotine cessestion, withdrawl should be of little concern.
But sure, let's make new drugs and see if we can do better. More science never hurts.
Having done a bit of consulting work for Apple over the past few months, I can provide just a bit of insider info...
For starters: 802.11g enabled iPods. A video compression format tight enough to let you put a whole goddamn star trek movie marathon on said iPod. How? Easily, and the video quality is *almost* up to dvd standards.
It's going to be cool. Collaboration with TiVO, too...
i work for a *major* US telecom provider, and i must say this:
DON'T PANIC.
trust me on this one. yes, we do have plans to merge with at least three other companies, mostly medium-sized regional providers. what we haven't told you, however, is that this merge will allow us to provide high-end DSL service to residences across the country for less than $10 / mo.
we will be able to do this due to the fact that there will be no middle-man provider. there are also some amazing projects in the works regarding satellite and wireless data transmission. think: global wireless network, anywhere in the world, anyone in the world, no charge. the bandwidth will be limited to 19.2 bps initially, but the coverage will be absolutely ground-breaking.
the most obvious omission to this list was intel's 512-bit entry into the high-end graphics card market, the "i0ta", aka the i920. Preliminary benchmarks on their prototype with UNOPTIMIZED drivers allegedly yielded over 250 fps in quake3 @ 1600x1200 32-bit color, as indicated by the now-infamous memo leaked about 2 months ago.
according to the memo, the chip cost less than $50 / 100 units. the release has been pushed back from q4 2002 to q3 2003 due to recent lay-offs.
of course, by then ati will already have surpassed them in terms of price and performance.
they completely left out..what was it called? battlecruiser 30000 AD? the game was decades in development and the final release was possibly the biggest dissapointment in gaming history.
Of course, had this been a development linux kernel, everyone would rush to the defense with screams of "It's not ready for primetime, developers only!", etc. I don't care so much when people reply with remarks such as those made in the story, but I prefer to have un-biased story posters.
BBS's are alive and well, as long as you know where to look. Check out english.gh0st.net. There's quite a lively and intelligent group of people who correspond there.
I see a lot of people saying "If the NSA put a backdoor in windows, would they really call it NSAKEY?" Well.. Maybe they would, after all no one would expect them to. It would be stupid. Perhaps that's what they want you to think.
You got lucky. Being consistently precise requires strength.
You are profoundly retarded :(
Sounds to me like gmail should have spent longer in beta.

The World's Largest Simulated Cyber Attack is really growing up.
Don't do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.

Hm. At 1.3 kilos, it might as well be a brick. I thought you geeks had weak spines or something?
you make a pretty good case for nerds not being on facebook.
And in other news, it was just revealed by Fox Five 10 o'clock news that Ben Reser is a communist.
Go back to soviet russia.
I believe that nintendo's video game watches should be cited as prior art.

Even better: VmWare + wingate = pretty close to transparant use under linux. Sans ads.

We have freshmeat for software announcements. We have slashdot for news. This is a software announcement.

Big big problem with this: The only people who are taking it are ON THE INTERNET. Gee, I wonder how skewed the results are going to be...
