Given a choice between an American-made components and those imported from any non-free nation, my company would choose the American made products every time even at 3 times the cost. It's a matter of principals.
All the liberal idiots moving here from California and Oregon to work for them are really screwing up this state. Seattle is now a shithole just like San Francisco, LA, Portland and Chicago have become. I wish they would just go away.
My health insurance went up 1600% thanks to Obama. That is not an exaggeration - 1600%. My coverage is crap now too, with much higher deductibles, so basically nearly anything I need ends up being paid out of pocket now. I also had to change insurance companies 6 TIMES because my old ones quit offering plans. My health savings account is gone - those are not compatible with socialist medical coverage. Where I live there is ONE insurance provider, when I used to be able to pick from dozens. NO, I did NOT get to keep my doctor - that was a lie.
I've been forced to use a macbook pro, and gladly went back to my Asus Zenbook running buntu as soon as I could. I do have family members that belong to the the church though, and trying to convince them to look at anything without an Apple logo on it is like talking to a rock.
I sent one family member a link to a file. His internet was out, so all he needed to do was download that link with his iphone, plug it into his macbook and transfer it over. After DAYS of trying he gave up on this simple task.
Another family member was given a video on a flash drive to watch on his Macbook. It was made with the H265 codec, so of course it would not play. I told him to download and install VLC media player and he'd be good. He has never been able to figure out how to do this.
Still another family member was given a portable hard drive to backup her documents from her Macbook Air. This went about the same way as the others - she has no clue how to copy a file on her Mac.
These are people who often tout how Apple is superior to everything else, while at the same time cannot figure out how to do very basic things with their Apple products. At what point will the almost total lack of easy functionality convince them to look to another platform? Do Apple products make people stupid? I just don't understand.
They are just a troll farm, just like the Russian and Iranian ones mentioned here. The only difference is they are funded by idiots in this country instead of the governments of others.
I remember marking pages in my Visual Studio, Novel Netware, CorelDRAW and Wordperfect manuals. Netware in particular was a huge set of books. I also remember going through these manuals cover-to-cover to learn about these programs. Good times.
A pdf, wiki page or other HTML help is just not the same. I want something I can stick a post-it note in.
My bad. I read on a Tesla forum the model 3 would use between 240-300 whr per hour, when the poster on that forum should have said 'per mile'. Should have realized it wasn't that small amount of juice to push a car.
It may still be somewhat viable though - considering that a Tesla battery weighs 530kg, the equivalent fluid by weight may be enough for 250 miles of range. There is the problem of transferring 146 gallons of fluid at a fill-up though.
I imagine a remote electric 'gas station' where you would exchange the used liquid in your car's flow battery for freshly-charged liquid. The station itself could even be solar. No more sitting for an hour at a recharge station waiting for your Tesla's battery to get topped off - a recharge stop would only take as long as pumping gas does now. Used fluid would go back to the station to be recharged.
Using a Tesla Model 3's stated average power consumption, about 2 liters of charged liquid battery per hour of driving should be enough.
I do not belong to the church of the lower-case 'i'. However, I do have a Huawei that I do not wear all the time. When I'm at a conference or traveling I wear it - it's useful in those times when I'm on the move and would be constantly taking my phone out of my pocket to check whatever. I wish wear-os was a little better though. I can think of many useful things the watch could do if only there were software to do it.
"In order to assess how fairly search engine results portray political candidates and controversial issues, we collected over 1,200 URLs ranking highly in Google.com for politically-charged keywords such as “gun control”, “abortion”, “TPP”, and “Black Lives Matter”. Each URL was then assessed for political slant by politically active individuals from both the left and right. Finally, we used CanIRank’s SEO software to analyze how each URL compared in dozens of different ranking factors to determine whether Google’s algorithm treated websites similarly regardless of their political slant.
Among our key findings were that top search results were almost 40% more likely to contain pages with a “Left” or “Far Left” slant than they were pages from the right. Moreover, 16% of political keywords contained no right-leaning pages at all within the first page of results."
If an arrest is going to be made because of something in a space that you are technically renting, there should at least be a warrant involved. There was not.
I remember having a single 1.2mb 5.25" floppy disk with ready-to-run Lotus 1-2-3, dBase, Wordperfect, a virus scanner app and a bunch of games -- with room to spare for documents. Win95 was huge - took like 21 floppies to install.
As has been said, Twitter (and FB) are private companies where free speech does not exists. That is, except for those on the far-left. Anyone else will be muted or banned.
I retweeted something about showing respect for veterans and was shadow-banned on Twitter - my tweets are no longer seen by others. If I were to retweet something about verterans being the same as nazi's that would be OK, and I'd probably end up with a blue Twitter checkmark on my profile.
Twitter is anything but free speech. There needs to be an alternative that really is.
I stayed at the Rio and then Caesars and attended Defcon. I had my room searched at both hotels. At the Rio they were polite enough about it, but I thought it strange they did wish to see in the safe. They didn't want to look in the closet, in my giant suitcase or anywhere else I could have stashed a weapon, just the tiny safe.
At Caesars they were just plain rude about the searches. I know others that had their soldering irons confiscated. Also if any lock picks where seen hotel security called the cops and those persons were arrested. For those that don't know Defcon has an entire lockpicking pavilion.
I will never again stay at any Caesars property and I really hope the Dark Tangent is considering moving Defcon to another hotel chain.
Wish I had a mod point for every false headline I've seen that says 'Artificial Sweeteners May Cause..'..blah, blah..blah.. These are usually things that could be measured in in testing, but never seem to be. If something causes a hypoglycemic response of any kind that can be easily measured - so why hasn't it been?
Some of the absolute worst garbage science I've ever seen has to do with artificial (and non-artificial, like stevia) sweeteners. One 'study' in recent memory that was republished in the local crap newspaper only had 25 participants??!?! (probably cherrypicked too) One person contracted cancer during the study, so the article headline was of course 'artificial sweeteners may cause cancer', which is complete BS. Anyone that bothered to lookup the study would also find that one participant contracted athlete's foot during the testing period, so I guess artificial sweeteners cause that too.
Strzok and Page also used personal email to conduct FBI business. And yes, it was probably illegal - their work-related communications must be subject to FOIA’s disclosure provisions.
So why wasn't Obama investigated by them in 2012?.
The Obama’s reelection team was “building a vast digital data operation that for the first time combines a unified database on millions of Americans with the power of Facebook to target individual voters to a degree never achieved before.” Obama’s new database would be gathered by asking individual volunteers to log into Obama’s reelection site using their Facebook credentials. “Consciously or otherwise,” “the individual volunteer will be injecting all the information they store publicly on their Facebook page — home location, date of birth, interests and, crucially, network of friends — directly into the central Obama database.”
Facebook had no problem with such activity then. They do now, but only because it's Trump.
The former Obama director of integration and media analytics stated that, during the 2012 campaign, Facebook allowed the Obama team to “suck out the whole social graph”; Facebook “was surprised we were able to suck out the whole social graph, but they didn’t stop us once they realized that was what we were doing. They came to [the] office in the days following election recruiting & were very candid that they allowed us to do things they wouldn’t have allowed someone else to do because they were on our side.”
As soon as Facebook realized that Cambridge Analytica had pursued a similar strategy, they suspended them.
Sound like you're in Chelan - me too! I have relatives that live the other direction about 10 miles away from the lake. That entire valley has no access at all. Some are lucky enough to at least have an analog phone line, but it's very unreliable in that area. If the phone line goes down in winter it stays down until spring.
I may be putting up my own cellular repeater on their property - I found a spot that can receive Verizon about 3500' from their house - I just need to get power there.
Given the $1.5 trillion dollar tax cut we just did (83% of which went to the 1%) I'm guessing no. It's just like the lottery. They claim the money will go to services but then they shuffle it around and turn it into tax cuts for the rich.
I'm so tired of hearing the same bullshit thing repeated over and over. 83% of the tax cuts did not go to the top 1%. The fact is that two years after the tax cuts expire in 2025, assuming they do not get renewed, then the top 1% will get 83% of the tax cuts. So I guess we should push our representatives to renew the cuts in 8 years. Even in 2025 when they do expire the top 1% will only see about 25% of the cuts.
I hope he was fired over his political views and then proceeds to sue the crap out of FB because of it.
There are only two genders.

..looks like I'm going to be able to buy SuperMicro servers super cheap! I suspect the used server market is also about to be flooded..
...and I never will be.

And what exactly are they all doing? Not working on product design - that's for certain.
