  1. Wrong, the answer is there is people involved. on Scientists Warn the UN of Capitalism's Imminent Demise (vice.com) · · Score: 1

Put ANY economic system in play and there will always be people who game the system to their advantage. Greed, power, whatever your thing is.

So go ahead and blame Capitalism, next blame Socialism, Communism, then Whateverism. (My favorite) If people are involved, there will be corruption and exploitation for someones benefit. (mainly their own)

Well being from one of the 22 States, please don't include me on this list. I understand I'm "represented" in this way, but I'm totally not for this waste of time and money. This will amount to nothing. The FCC has the right to do this, if I like it or not.

This is all just political, and the "165 million people" represented get the bill.

Let's be real. Most everyone would take the CEO/Boss/Owner pay any day of the week. This comes back to jealousy.

Why doesn't anyone complain about what Congress gets paid and the benefits? Talk about royalty!

  4. True innovation is coming up with something that doesn't exist, isn't even an idea, and making it happen. Making a new browser, even if the Chinese didn't steal code from Chrome, is not innovation. It's attempted improvement.

Improvement looks at what everyone else is doing and tries something different, while "standing on the shoulders of the giant". No original thought.

The reasons any tech is in China is for cheap labor and loose environmental standards. I've worked in tech and with the Chinese. We had to QC all of their work. Which was funny since they were hired to do QC.

  5. First video in the article... Blame someone else! on Fewer Than Half of Young Americans Are Positive About Capitalism (cnbc.com) · · Score: 1

Did anyone read the article? It was interesting till I watched the 3 videos. Wow what a difference in perspective.

First video, and author talked about her book "Squeezed". All she talked about was how it's not young peoples fault they're having financial issues. Ya, just what people need. Another person pointing the finger at why people can't succeed. Which takes me to the second video.

Some how this guy was able to not get squeezed and figured a way to make it. Wow, if what didn't work the first time didn't work try something else? What a concept. So I guess it is possible.

Third video just makes sense. Buying a house. Helps build equity. Not an investment, but builds equity. Use a 15 years loan, and gee pack your own lunch instead of eating out all the time. This sounds like the polar opposite of the lady in the first video.

Really shows what a different perspective can give. Who do you want to be?

  6. Re:Oh, here we go ... on Trump, Seeking To Relax Rules on US Cyberattacks, Reverses Obama Directive (wsj.com) · · Score: 3, Insightful

I'll preface this comment by I'm not a huge President Trump supporter. But people need to know how to look at things objectively, outside their views.

People are tired of the same rhetoric which is doing nothing. Yes this change can be dangerous, and yes it can be "messy". What was happening before is also dangerous and messy. Do nothing, and allow the bullies to have their way. Then we will say stop and the bullies laugh all the more.

Why do you think President Trump was voted into office? It wasn't the Russians. Heavens knows we influence foreign governments much more. People are tired of the status quo. So change came in someone outside the political system.

By the way, I like your vast assumptions in your comment. I suppose you know for a fact how "Trump shoots from the hip" Talked to him lately? You know the man? Also how you took President Trumps action from changing a policy (which is his job) to saying he's "essentially authorizing hostile actions without oversight or planning" Yup, he just changed a policy and now he's going rogue. Sounds like the same policy and political BS we hear everyday.

This might not catch on, but being first in line is a good place to be. Wow, Intel still has some engineers, who haven't been let go, who can imagine something new.

Personally, I moved into a house that had a small sauna. I like it, but I don't use it often. I will admit, using at your house and heading to bed shortly there after is amazing. Gets me some good sleep.

Also, I'm not a "wealthy white guy", although given the opportunity I would take it. Like most people would.

Thank goodness this is not France. You can keep your issues you create in France. Specifically like making law to not use cell phones. Yup, that will really change addictive behaviors. Make a law. Always changes everything. Not actually dealing with the problem of teaching kids (and adults for that matter) about addictive behaviors and how to deal with them. That's too much work.

By the way, thanks for pointing out all the imperfections of our education system. I'm sure "Frances" glass house if perfect and has no problems what so ever.

  10. What is surprising is how simple you made this argument.

Minimum wage will never keep up with the real problem: Tuition/Housing costs for a college. This needs to be put in check.

Working a summer and paying for college tuition for the year, ya that's outside of thought at this time, BUT they can take a job and earn what they can to keep their loans down.

"Student loans don't really help in the long term": Really? How about the extra money those people make for their first 10 years? What about the students who can't afford, or parent can't afford to pay for college? This is a false statement. Not saying getting loans are great, but they meet a need.

I'm at the start of this adventure with my children. It's very expensive and I hope to work with them to get through these years with minimal to no debt.

Everyone will feel it in higher costs of good and services.

How can you take a long look at the environment/health issues changing so radically, what could be every 4 years? Truth usually resides somewhere in the middle.

As a contractor you don't really have any push back. If the manager missed the time to renew the contract, it's the managers fault. But this is a contract for services to another company. The other company can lock out anyone, including contractors at any time. This is not as uncommon as you think, but it's weird from the contractor side, since this is money their loosing. I've seen it (more than once) from the company side where they need to renew the contract with the contracting agency. Access gets shut off, logins get disabled, etc. Wastes a couple of days trying to get the persons rights back. Really smart move, and yes usually traces back to a manager screwing up.

What about the pay? Well if there is no contract, there is no pay.

  16. Knowing the culture, this is not how the rest of the management chain would be treated. They would disappear and later you would find out the truth. In my IT position, we would get requests to remove all access for a certain user. (unfriendly termination) So I would get some heads up.

If BK was really treated like all the other employees, he would have been disappeared and everyone would have been wondering where he went. No resignation. Just the Mr Spacely treatment. You're fired!!

So no, BK is not treated the same. (yes he went by BK at Intel)

Let's not kid ourselves, most of the politicians are bought, not just this one who did this. Granted there are a few that really care to do what is right, just not the majority.
