The simple fact of the matter is that if SCO thought that they were in the "right" they would be attacking the upper tiers of the Fortune 500 and larger companies. They tried that with IBM and got their fingers bitten.
This little press release is nothing more than an admission of their downfall.
You may think that Origin didn't have any origanlity, just sucking off the profits of Ultima but youd be wrong.
Yes...they produced Ultima and Wing Commander. What you dont mention are all of the Janes combat simms.
Origin alaso produced code for a few other online worlds that never were published because EA didn't want to risk competitinon with Mr. Lucas.
Origin had alot of good coders and some wonderful ideas...they were just handeled badly by EA.
The theory was tested by some scientists near the antarctic and while it worked a little the cost of actually doing it is prohibitive.
This does not take into account the affect creating billions more of the wee beasites would have on the marine life cycly. Hell the person who first discovered the photopankton advised against this method of using them because of the way negative effects it could have (like feeding alge growth that kills fish). Check out the latest issues of Discover and Scientific Amerian for the lowdown.
I don't know about that but, wouldn't it be eaiser (and more useful) to just take the mad cows to the tyson chicken plant (the one that is turning chicken parts into oil) and toss the cows in the grinder?! If the product is fuel oil then there's nothing to lose.
No man...they sprayed kit down with some "degreasser" that removed the coating and then they beat him with jackhammer enhanced tractors. The next episode is where we got Kit in the convertable & the hyper-super-turbo charger.
True that. When I worked for K-Mart they had a months worth of weakly adds stashed in a locked room at the back of the store. If those got out early then compeditors could do a local price correction by UPC overnight.
It was inevitable. With many GUI bugs and just bad management UO started to decline a long time ago. This is just a last attempt at keeping UO and Origin afloat. By next year we should be seeing EA trying to sell off OSI or cannibalizing it till just the name is left.
So you would agree that the Dell commercials that claim the Dell systems are better (or more cost effecive) because they use Intel Xeon cpus that dont lock customers into proprietary technology.
I thought not.
Its a BIOS tag with your System Service Tag on it. If you flash your BIOS the field usually loses its data, killing the BIOS ID, but, this may have changed in the recent versions.
There is no acceptable amount of work related misery in the IT field. Misery generaly stems from the inept rulings of management, the users who can't seem to RTFM, and the products we support and/or make. Most of this misery could be avoided if people would just get a clue and do their jobs instead of attempting to pass the buck.
I've got 7 years of on-job expierience and the only job thats come up in the last three months wont pay the bills. Seems like employeers only want the "wet bewhind the ears" college students/grads who will take anything to get expierience or a foot in the door.
See, there's the rub, if you could just create an entire race like that why have them look any diffrent at all. If the tech can create the race you've obviously not under any constraints imposed by current genetic troubles (inbreeding and such). In fact you could take it a step further and make the males look the same and the females look alike as well (if you really want to dip in to sci-fi just clone tru hermaphrodites ) . This eliminates some of the social troubles caused by physical variations. This was the Arian dream to some extent but, science has a better aproach.
Yup, next thing ya know they'll be getting Seth Green to replace Michael Shanks character. I can see it now...After a few episodes the team will discover that Seth is a were-wolf and that Carter is the new Slayer.....
...if ER became a horror story with at least one vampire victim every week, or the Friends storyline suddenly focused on Monica beating the crap out of Chandler every week...
What are you talking about!? I'd pay good money to see that happen.
Why don't you write a script up for that one. I'd buy that for a dollar.

I like your suggestion and a great many places offer summer internships for grad students. Take a look at IBM's job postings on Brassring.com sometime.

Thats what I did at Origin...most of the coders there couldn't even update their anti-virus software on a windows machine. It was sickening.
Yes but, the facial recognition programs vegas, florida, and the UK are using have proven to be effective at their job. Combine that with some biometrics scanners and a national ID database and we wont need to carry any cash or wait in line again.
This is just tech progression waiting for social progression to catch up.
I can tell you from expierience that it's not that easy to get things in the game fixed that are just plain wrong. When I was at Origin they didn't really have much of a stated/documented policy for many things (detection of hacked items and deletion of improperly placed houses being issues at the time). This led to some odd conversations and alot of pissed off players. I wasn't the best of GM's but, at least the players and my counselors liked me.

Didn't Microsoft offer some kind of bounty for or something for eliminating security risks. This could certainly fall under that couldn't it?
If anything DirectTV loves big news sites linking to illegal sites because of the slashdot effect. If you cant close em down eat their bandwidth.

and how do you propose to let someone "get midevil on your ass" without those algorithms in your cybersex prog.

Hey, wait a sec...thats good cotton you're using ot wipe yer arse. Use a spotted owl instead.
Ok..so, those of us in the US are doing our part to stem world wide over population.
