Let me get this straight. So it is America's problem to free the Tibetans? I thought we weren't supposed to be the world's police force.
To equate the two situations is just assinine. The (majority of) American people were lead to believe that we were attacking Iraq as they possessed WMD's and would be happy to use them against us. If this isn't true, Bush will pay for this very much in the next election but you cannot hold it against the American people.
China isn't much of a threat to the U.S. Perhaps "you people" should go fight the Chinese... Tell me how it all works out.
You hit the nail on the head: you assumed all people believe in evolution. Genetics are far more natural than people want to believe- engineered or otherwise. This is simply evolution at its best because man has evolved to the point of being able to control evolution itself.
Many cannot deal with this thought for various reasons. Usually because their religion doesn't allow it. Religion vs. Science- nothing new here.
You make a decent point, but for these people to try to keep up with the digitalized world they must. With that said, who needs to be sending huge amounts of money on an OS?;)
Yes, software is licensed, but it is the license system itself that is in question. If you are not forced to agree with the license, essentially you now have all the same rights as you would with any other piece of i.p. It would become a case of "you purchased it, you do what you want with it."
Who knows, this could be the case that finally decides if click-throughs and shrinkwrappeds are legit or not.
If for some reason you were to run the Windows version under wine or something and doing so opened some mysterious security hole... who knows?

Saying that I "mastered" it in 2 years would be about right. Since which I've entered the Linux world. First attempt was about 2 years ago, but I've been using it solidly for about a year and a half.
All I'm saying is, the more experiance people have with different OS's the better. I would say that knowing what I know in Linux has helped my Windows skills, and likewise for Macs. It's called learning computing, far more valuable than learning just Windows.
You know, as a person who has one of these "ultra-generic-let's-send-spam-to" addresses. This really is annoying. I'm not saying the address, but you could probably figure it out.
Everyone should be using me@privacy.net, they will auto-respond to the spammer with a message that the person did not wish to sign up mailing list x.
Ok, maybe "terrorist" is a pretty strong term but imagine if this attack is replicated on a day like Sept. 11- you might think otherwise. If you don't want to consider an attack on one of the core means of communication "terrorism," fine, but it is in the very least extremely serious.
All I'm really saying is that an attack like this is different than a webpage deface or whatnot.
Now as for the personal attack, I haven't used IRC in a couple years, I have an actual girlfriend, and I've never even played EQ. So, Mr. AC, get a life.
True you are the one who is getting annoyed, but whatever amount that would go to the government would ultimately be used against taxes any how. A list like this sounds really nice to me.

Fact is, any school that is run by anyone with common sense (rare these days, granted) takes these kids and puts them to work on the systems. At my old high school, they offered, and I believe still do, classes where the technically-advanced students (the 'techies') would fix the computers and could spend time learning such things as what was in the parent when things were working. School districts don't need to pay the techies, just give them credit for the class and maybe supply doughnuts once in a while.:) At the school, the techies truely kept the school running, the principal was quoted saying it word-for-word. Most were smarter than the people running the labs but at least the school was will to embrace these kids instead of punishing them for being smart.
The class would even get a few old computers that they could screw around with. As a personal memory, I remember laughing with joy when the BSA did an audit of the school. All the techies visited every computer in the school, writing down the OS and any commercial software packages loaded on them. It was quite satisfying to see results something like: Win9x - 160, Win2000 - 5, Mac OS 8.x/9.x - 35, Red Hat Linux - 1. Damn I miss that linux box.
Anyway, I hate the the attitude of "I don't get it, and these kids do. Let's make sure that they know who's in charge!"
A lot has happened in three years.
Perhaps now is a good time to go back and try it?
Last time I checked, KDE was free enough for me... and probably everone else for that matter.

Spout crap? Indeed.
Only ICANN gets to play with the root... not that it makes the situation much better.
Damn, did my homepage just get patented?

While I respect your views, I would think the mass graves in Iraq would say that Saddam is indeed evil, whether he believes he was right or not.
I'm not a Bush-pushing "chronie" but put what you are saying into perspective, please.
Kind of like saying, "Hitler wasn't evil, just misunderstood."
(And no, the war wasn't about mass graves.)
The only difference? Verisign just 'bought' ALL of them.
3. COST OF THE VERISIGN SERVICES.
The Verisign Service(s) are provided to you free of charge.
I can't wait under they start charging for this wonderful service.
You make a decent point, but for these people to try to keep up with the digitalized world they must. With that said, who needs to be sending huge amounts of money on an OS? ;)
If that's how it would work, that would be great but don't you think they'd like to give you DRM anyway?

Better yet, does purchasing the software mean you own it now?
We'll have to wait and see I guess.
I suppose it's technically possible.

In this particular case, I would have to agree that they -are- terrorists.
There is such a thing as good hackers and even good crackers but a stupid DOS against the root dns servers? How can you defend that?

Funny- yes. But good help us if it ends up being true.
