Could someone comment on this and tell me if this is truthful or just wrong?

  2. Bah! on Discovering New Music? · · Score: 1

In my experience, the best is always found by looking for it for yourself. Word of mouth and IRC are the best, no "system" is as best as finding it for yourself and experiencing it. To that end, I often just google for websites and bands (I listen to mostly punk, but there are always bands out there that I find interesting.)
If you want good music, do searches for sites by guys who truely love their music (like at http://www.punkrocks.net) who do reviews, or google for top 20 lists. Search mp3.com for all those unknown bands. Often a bunch are crappy garage artists, but out there too, is alot of new fresh perspective that I've found to be enlightening. Look for the new stuff, not corprate BS, out there by the people who REALLY love their work. Google, talk to fellas, and don't be afraid to experience new music. If all fails, build your own top 20 lists that YOU like. And don't forget all your local talent; if you really want to find music, check out all those clubs and scences around your town; you might be surprised by the fresh talent that is out there. And for heaven's sake, turn off MTV! They don't show music anyways anymore.

  3. Whhhhaaaat? on What Should I Do With My Life? · · Score: 1

Why is this modded as five? I don't understand.

How does that auto translate into "starting a dot-com" and then going bust??? He used to work for Wall Street, read the other comments. He's trying to establish credibitly or some common ground with the reader by sharing his experience when he talks about his early view on work.

For the most part, I think that what he's trying to say here is that maybe some of us think that there are some things that are "it" that we want, just because we want it for the looks, or the challenge; or whatever reason we crave or want a job or position in life. But in reality, what every person wants is a job (or life) that is a relection of them and what they do best. What makes them happy; whatever makes you happy, as the other comments on this story have pointed out.

I don't know, maybe he did go after a dot com or had that ideology, but in my view all he is doing is trying to get people to take a look at their lives; it is thought provoking. Maybe I just take people for honest too much. I don't belive he just did that and is now tryin' to comfort himself in that "money won't make you happy" thinking. Maybe he just make a mistake.

  6. bleh.. on Ipsos-Reid: More Americans Downloading Music · · Score: 1

You know, no matter what you really think, there will always be those who try and steal movies, try to get WHATEVER they can for free, and so forth. You can't really stop them. For the rest of us, we have every ab. right to protest. I think the original napster idea worked greatly, and I think it would be a good model. ($10 or whatever monthly fee (maybe a yearly plan would be better, or maybe on a per download basis, if companies really tried, they could find a pricing plan that would satisfy all the customers) money that would be SURE to go to the artists, available on a napster like program [p2p or whatever, so even rare music could be found], and unlimited downloads, in a non-DRM format.) I really don't think people are that evil and willing to steal that much, so maybe if we just made it easier for people to get what they want, when they wanted it, in the format they wanted it, maybe then they'd be willing to pay for it. If only a bunch of artists got together (and maybe some who were willing to bring in new talent; artists who really love the music and not the fame) and did that to the original napster and broke off from the RIAA, now that'd be something, wouldn't it?

    hey,

ok so the next step is what to do about this??? I mean I read about stuff like this and it makes my blood boil, and now I think about letting everyone I know about this. I'm also thinkin' about writing John C. Dvorak (yeah he's not the greatest, but he writes for PCMag, and I like his style) to get the public aware of this? Is this not a good idea? To let people know that soon they will lose their rights? If a bunch of people start listenin' to geeks like us, they're going to know that somethings up. Yeah, alot of people are not the greatest or smartest, but they will listen to knowlegable people like us who know that when we something that is bad, we will let people know about it. We should all do something. Write your friends and family. Tell others. Email PC Mag and get some of the editors on it... Is my idea ok?

perhaps, and i share your thoughts, i think it is a challenge to humanity as a whole to see if we can dare stand together instead of killing each other and answer the challenge, but IMO, its never going to happen. i seriously think we're gonna nuke ourselves into oblivion before that happens..

consider: no matter what, we'll always have terrorists, men with greed who want to rule the world etc, people with money on their minds, etc.. people not willing to compromise and make sacrifices for the good of the whole; and most of all, we need a society with at least a set standard of morals... if we can't solve the problems on our planet first, whats the point of heading off to another planet to populate?? we'll be stuck with the same problems, different location.. if only we as a human family could learn to live in peace and work together instead of tearing down and learn to respect our enviroment, THEN we should worry about moving to other planets/moons and ensuring our survival as humans..

don't get me wrong, its a wonderful idea, i love it, but we've got way too many things to overcome first before we even consider terraforming other planets...

anyways, if you belive in god and jesus and angels and satan, THEN YOU DO BELIVE IN ALIENS.. maybe not in the form of green moon men, but they are life outside of earth, therefore they are extrateresstrial life (so to speak anyway) and i guess you could say aliens...

    2. are there not cds with only 2-3 tracks on them that people can buy if they just want a couple of songs? are not these much cheaper than regular full albums? (for those who say they just want a couple of tracks off the cds..)

    3. how much wasted money is spent on promoting the bands/singers/rappers and becomes part of the price of cds?

    4. what else is factored in that causes the total price of the cd?
