You didn't RTFA, did you? The guy who modded you must have not either. No where does the article compare cheaters to criminals. It just basically summarizes some mentalities of cheating, gives a few examples, and touches briefly on what game developers are doing to fix it.
It is true that cheating can never be completely eliminated by game design. But the article never implied that laws should be made to compensate this. It would be pointless in the first place. Since when do laws prevent people from doing any kind of activity anyway?
Please don't tell me that you're surpised that companies take cheating seriously, though. In thier multiplayer games, if cheating is running rampant, it will ultimately hurt their sales, so of course they are going to do what it takes to reduce it.
A similar thing happened to me when I played MUD's back in middle school. There was a post on a message board about typing some command would crash the server. It didn't give me any advantage, though. I typed the command just because I was stupid and curious....
Yeah, so the goddess (she was mean) deleted my character. I think it had over 1,200 hours on it. So let that be a lesson to you all...DON'T EXPLOIT BUGS (unless you need a good excuse for getting a life).
"Trolls are not here to annoy you, trolls are annoyed by you."
If you're really a good member of society, and you're annoyed by us, then stop wasting everyone's time (including your own) by trolling...and stop visiting this website for that matter.
I am brkello's little brother. If anyone out there is listening to this...HELP ME! Everytime I sit down to play a game, he comes by and beats the hell out of me for no reason. I think he is delusional. He keeps asking me "See!? Isn't this more realistic!? Aren't you immersed!?!?" All I can do is just scream in pain has he pounds me into the ground. If there is anyone merciful enough out there, PLEASE call the authorities. Oh damn! I think he's comi l;akdfa;
The difficulty can make a lot of people get frustrated and abandon a game even if the learning curve was ok.
On the other hand, if a game is too easy it can become quite boring to hardcore-gamers and people that can learn very fast.
But, no, most game designers are still locked in a mentality that "nooo, it must be challenging and difficult!" So even when they do offer a difficulty setting, they just have to over-balance it to discourage people from using it.
I'm guessing you've never developed a game before. But when you're a game designer/developer and you spend hours upon hours testing a game you tend to get really good at it. Which in turn makes it difficult to view the game from a "casual-gamer" perspective. It's alot more difficult than you think to make a game easy for newbs AND fun for hardcore gamers. Some companies get it right. Blizzard usually has multi-staged beta tests so they can get feedback from all types of players; and they can afford it. However, most companies feel it's not worth it to go all out on their beta tests. As long as it's reasonably balanced, a player isn't going to return a game because it's too hard or too easy. In other words, a company isn't going to spend the extra money it takes to make the difficulty perfect when it's not going to hurt their sales if they don't.
I've played both CS and NS quite a bit. I would agree that the scope of NS's gameplay is much larger. But to say CS doesn't require "real" teamwork and strategy is just wrong.
A sniper rifle?? You're that scared to get near a windows OS eh? You must let go of your fear, and use a shotgun! They are much more effective for xp install disks.
You never killed enemies by taking advantage of the physics system? Did you even get to the level where you killed the mob of zombies by smashing them with those car traps? Or chopping them up by using the propeller blades. Is going around in circles to push the 3 special buttons to turn on the power beam that zaps the monster really that fun anyway? To me, killing enemies with the physgun never ceases to be entertaining. There's some pretty creative ways to kill enemies HL2. I guess I'm just easily amused.
In all seriousness, I welcome your graphics freakynesh. It's a sight for sore eyes. Unfortunately, I already see the ubiquitous "The gameplay sucks, we don't need better graphics" posts starting to file in.
The truth is that this is all B.S.(goodbye karma). Improved graphics in game make it more visually appealing...not much else. But for some reason whenever a game makes a graphical improvement(or is just has good graphics for that matter) everyone screams bloody murder, complaining that the gameplay will suck. Then they proceed to obtaining enough +1 insightfuls to feed their family for a week.
Of course there are plenty of games out there with great graphics and terrible gameplay. But it's not BECAUSE they have good graphics. Imagine that people! I wonder how many gamers out there that complain about the gameplay have actually tried to develop their own fun and innovative game.
Anyways, the HDR looks sweet, and I'm buying the HL2 expansion as soon as it comes out.
I vaguely remember watching the zelda cartoon. Doesn't Link try to get a kiss from zelda like every episode? And then he gets really close to kissing her, but something happens? I remember having a dream where he FINALLY was able to kiss her. For some reason, that dream made me REALLY happy and somehow I still remember it to this day.
I've also had good experiences with the guys at my local gamestop. I bought a few used GBA, DS, and gamecube games there and the guy that worked that had an opinion on almost each game. I could tell he wasn't bs'ing me cause I already new what the games were like. The people at my best buy were pretty knowledgeable too. Best Buy seems to be terrible at carrying older games. And the employees there usually recommend gamestop if they don't carry a game.
It might not be fair, but it's ALOT easier to force assholes like you to pay for those people, then to try to force those people from not having babies.
What I want to know is if there are any big game companies that have actually done away with crunch time. I mean it IS horribly obvious that crunch time causes problems and limits productivity. Furthermore, I think it scares many skilled and talented programmers away from the game industry. With so many reasons to trash crunch time, why haven't we seen this happen??

In CS it is "Awp whore/noob." Funny thing is most people who utters those words can't get a kill with the AWP if their life dependend on it.

You know, like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills... Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills!

I know dude! It's gonna be so sweet! I just hope it will be as good as Doom 3's COMPLETELY BLACK DARKNESS!

If Half-Life 2's gameplay was too boring for you, I suspect that the FPS genre is not suitable for your taste.
In other words, with HL2's gameplay is no worse than it's graphics.
Have you even played Doom 3!?

I listened to that song once, and will hopefully never listen to it again. I'd rather be infected with HIV.

Or I could just be kidding...and you have no sense humor. but whatever
I don't watch VH1 or E! or MTV but thanks for the assumption. You also seem to assume that I have something called standards, which is also not true.
However, I'm not attracted to people based on what I'm TOLD I should be attracted to...I know, I know! Isn't that WIERD!?!
One of the funniest replies on slashdot EVER!!
And it only involved one character!
impressive...most impressive

Ummm I would bang her in a heartbeat. But I'd rather have a serious relationship with a can opener.
I have a feeling the PSP is going to have a problem with sticky buttons. Don't ask me why.
Red Orchestra for ut2k5?
i haven't played that one in a while though...

Well lets see. Each console MS sells will probably a loss for them.
They are worried that they won't be able to lose money fast enough??? Riiiiiiiighht....
