So the "This is America, violence is OK but sex is not" statement simply isn't true when it comes to most parents. It's used by politicians who are trying to appeal to a specific demographic.
I disagree. Although you do make a good point in reminding us that the game is rated M, and there are many parents who are reasonable when it comes to keeping innapropriate games away from their kids. But, I think Americans are at least slightly obsessed with violence. In Star Wars III you see heads getting lopped off all over the place, but it gets a PG-13. But any movie with a small sex scene is an automatic R. Network Television is filled with violent shows. But when Janet's nipple gets 1 second of airtime, people start screaming bloody murder. In my opinion, I think it should be the opposite. In general, sex is a GOOD thing, as violence is generally a BAD thing (IMHO). Many Americans see it differently if not having completely opposite views when trying to protect their kids. The U.S. isn't the only culture that has this view though.
Wow, you modders have some serious issues. Any time some one says something along the lines of "Americans are naive and stupid," they get modded insightful. Why is that? The parent's post is nothing but flamebait.
There are no such thing as "FPS/Media Consoles." Hentai and dating games are not innovative (serously you're trying to tell us porn is innovative?) And Americans aren't clueless about video games. They just have a different and less socially inept taste of video games than the parent's.
And from talking to other gamers, it seems that most of the Quake 3 players have moved on to either Painkiller, RTCW. And don't forget Call of Duty, Battlefield (1942,vietnam,2), and Day of Defeat...I think some one is a little behind on their FPS's:)
I don't know very much about warfare and national security. But I know enough that these problems just don't solve themselves. And I also know that I have the freedom of speech (at least some freedom), and I will be damned proud to use the right as long as I can, because who knows how much longer it will last.
There is not a damned thing wrong with discussing my opinions. They maybe wrong, uneducated and just plain stupid. But discussing these is a great way to learn more about this world. If you don't want to listen to them, then don't read them, asshole.
Honestly, you think just because someone has a friend of a family member involved in combat, that they will just magically know everything about warfare and national security?
I hope you get shipped to Iraq. Since you obviously know so much more about warfare than us simple, sheltered coders. We definately don't need you posting here.
I got third party cables from Best Buy, and my games look great on my parent's TV. (55 inch front projection I think). I know when it comes to consoles, third party is bad. But I don't think it's that big of deal with cables.
1) Even if everyone will own an HDTV in 1.5 years (which should be more like 10-15 years but whatever), are those extra pixels going to be the ONLY deciding factor for people to buy the system? Hell no. Is Nintendo taking a risk by not providing HDTV? Yes, but are they gonna fail in the US? We barely even know anything about the damn system yet. Saying it's gonna fail in the US is like judging a book by it's cover without even seeing the cover.
2) What does prior fans have to do with this? Microsoft has tons of fans(employees) and Nintendo has been around forever.
3) The fact that HDTV's can still show standard definition is also another reason why it's foolish to say Nintendo won't succeed.
It seems interesting that Sony decided to close the lid on the PS3 after this article came out, which killed much of the hype surrounding the console. Sony probably realized that when developers get a good look at their hardware, the truth will come out. I think they're hoping to let the hype-machine run on just pure speculation now. Which might be better than continuing to pull BS specs out of their ass, and the dissapointing the public when they actaully find out what's inside.
Ummm no. Kicking is not "just used to keep the lower half of the body aloft." The amount of kick in your stroke definately affects your speed. I don't think my swim team did kick-sets everyday, at the start of practice, so just so we can keep our body's from sinking.
Yeah that's true. I've definately come across the type of person who is actaully 100% dependent on the AWP. You can see it on stats pages. They have thousands of kills with the Awp. While only having maybe a 1:10 k/d ratio with other guns.
Dude, you're a fucking retarded asshole. I state in my main post that it was a stupid thing to do. But now you just realize that I was an idiot? At least I know how to read, douche.
CS:Source actually does this...sorta. You can jump on some one's head/shoulder if they are on the ground. However, you can no longer do huge towers like you could in 1.6. If you try to jump on someone that is already standing/sitting on someone else, you will slide off and fall. I think this is a good idea. It allows for some creativity and unexpected spots in many maps. But it doesn't let things get way out of hand with people skywalking or being in places you'd NEVER expect.

"I would hope that the government is more informed and intelligent than than I am."
Fortunately, I don't think it's that hard to be smarter than me.
Not only that, she repesents the "government knows better than you" wing as well.
I would hope that the government is more informed and intelligent than than I am. If not, we are in bad shape.
Hence, we are in bad shape.

If you're going to use Starcraft as an example, you might as well use Warcraft I and II. Starcraft IMHO is still the best RTS out there though.
Haven't you play Final Fantasy II? Giant tortoises are very weak against lightning.
Using a digital camera is quite safe. Unless you try to take a picture in a topless bar (not that I would know about that or anything).
People who play games casually play Quake 3 at work? lol That sounds pretty hardcore to me.
The physics of the source engine is EXTREMELY impressive. There's much more to an engine than just vehicles and lighting.
I thought the vehicles in HL2 were pretty cool too.
Ohhhh, so that's why I have no life!
"I'll bet money that there are still more people playing Quake 3 than all those games put together."
:)
Nope. CS has been by far the biggest multiplayer FPS. Unreal Tournament comes in a distant second.
See for yourself.

Oh! Oh! Teacher! I have the answer!
The answer is:
WHO GIVES A SHIT!
Who the hell are these 'computer people' you speak of? Do you mean androids? Robots maybe?
Seriously dude, pull the stick out of your ass.

Yeah because a console's success is 100% dependent on it's HDTV support. Just look how much more X-boxes are sold than PS2's. Oh wait....
Ummm no. Kicking is not "just used to keep the lower half of the body aloft." The amount of kick in your stroke definately affects your speed. I don't think my swim team did kick-sets everyday, at the start of practice, so just so we can keep our body's from sinking.
People who want to see Jesus for a few hours:
....... So, ummm, any apocolpyses or anything coming our way soon?
Jesus: Welcome to heaven, my son.
Me: Sup dude, I can only stay for a few, just wanted to drop by to say what's up.
Jesus: Oh, I see. Well nothing new here. Admission is pretty low right now. Only seeing a few people being let through the gates every day, my child.
Me: Damn, I hope I get in when my time comes *wink* *wink*
Jesus: Hehe.........
Me:
Jesus: That's none of your damned buisiness, now get the hell out.
Me: Okay Okay! (under my breath) Jesus! What an asshole!
Jesus: I heard that.
Boy, I don't understand a word you just said.
Telling them that you have asthma works pretty well too.

They already knew about the bug. And specifically told us not to exploit it. Hence me stating how I was "curious and stupid."
You refused to include Kenny as a potential customer...
You bastards!!!
