  3. Example of Animal culture on Animal Social Complexity - Intelligence and Culture · · Score: 1

We'll use cats as an example of animal culture. When cat A sees cat B it us customary for cat A to approach cat B and commence the butt sniffing process, a common greeting among cats. If Cat A is male and determines that cat B is female he will attempt to mount her and thus begins the boinking process. This is the courtship process of cats. The female will either respond by agreeing to mate, or hissing and growling and slapping him with her claws if she does not agree. If both cats are of the same gender they will simply growl and his and slap each other with their front paws. In either event, the cats will then leave the scene of the sex/fight and attempt to find something to eat as food is the driving force in the cat culture. Cats have a very simple language consisting of purrs, hisses, and meows. A purr often means happiness. A hiss means it is angry, and a meow means it wants something. Because the culture is based on food and sex these are the only 3 words the cat really needs. When it is time to use the restroom it is customary for the cat to search for a spot where it can cover its poop if no such spot can be found the cat will simply poop on your carpet. Punishing a cat often seems pointless because after punishment it is customary for the cat to only refrain from pooping on your carpet as long as you are watching. If you aren't looking the cat believes it is once again safe to dookie on your floor. It is also customary in cat cultures for cats that are familiar with one another to lick each other's butt hole as a sign of affection. Licking the butt hole of a friend is similar to a handshake.

  9. I like dish on Cable TV Versus Satellite TV? · · Score: 1

I prefer the dish. Preferably the Dish Network. Even though you may loose the signal when it rains the quality is much higher than cable. And even digital cable can go out if the satelite at the cable company gets blocked by a cloud or a cable falls off a pole. The difference is you don't have to wait for a repair man to fix the cable. You have the dish and you have the digital signal pumped directly to your box. Not only this, but on digital cable, the first 99 channels are not digital. They're analog. It's not until you reach channel 100 do you start getting the digital channels. Every channel on the dish is digital. I'm not quite sure why people worry so much about getting local channels through the dish also, I mean they're local channels, you can turn the dish off and pick them up with an antenna. The type of antenna that snaps to the back of the dish works just fine for that. And you might be able to get a reasonable package that includes local channels. But honestly, I'd rather have around 5 crappy channels with 300 digital channels than 99 crappy channels and maybe 100 digital channels. And no matter what people say cable is just as fragile to weather as the dish. There are miles of cable that can be blown down, and interference and neighbors who steel it from you.

  11. Give it a chance on Star Trek: Enterprise in Danger of Being Cancelled · · Score: 1

I don't think people are giving Enterprise a chance. Look at DS9, one of the best trek series out of all of them. While the first 3 seasons were good the series really began to pick up in the 4th with the dominion war. It took the first 3 seasons for us to get to know the characters and for them to lead up to the 4th/5th seasons where the dominion war took off. Even Voyager had it's good points, and great episodes, and introduced Technology into the trek universe like the EMH and the portable holo-emitter. The EMH was then used in First Contact, one of the best TNG movies. I learned to enjoy Voyager even though at first I compared it to Gilligan's Island in space. Give it a chance to blossom like DS9 did at this stage in it's life instead of killing it before it's time.

In earlier times young humans who wished to court went to a place called a "drive-in". The drive in had large "screens" similar to the ones you would find in a modern movie theater. The young humans would park their vehicle in a special lot facing the giant "screens". Next to the vehicle was a "speaker" that attached to the window. Movies were then played on the large "screen" and the sound came through the "speaker". The movie was viewed from inside the vehicle. Some high tech drive-ins could actually broadcast the movie sound on the vehicle's "radio". Drive-in's were popular because of privacy, and they had good "corn dogs". A young human couple wishing more privacy on a date might take a "van" to the drive-in. When this occured the movie was seldom actually viewed as the human couple would be too busy mating in the back of the "van". Though once very popular there are few "drive-ins" left, though some still exist.
