  1. Re:Horray on World of Warcraft Closed Beta Ending · · Score: 1

I've been in beta since about May of this year, so i'll try to help ya with your question.

I'm mainly a solo player, in Everquest I played a druid, and could solo all I wanted. When I first got into WoW beta, I tried a druid, and by about level 8 I decided that it wasn't really like a druid in EQ, so, I made a Gnome Warlock instead. I kinda sucked a bit up until lvl 14 when I realized i could get my Voidwalker pet (tank pet) at lvl 10. As soon as I did the quest for that pet (a quest that you can do solo btw), soloing was much easier for me. Pretty much every class gets somethin at lvl 10 that is somewhat special I guess you could say. Hunters get to tame pets at lvl 10, Priests get rez at 10 i think.. anyway. From the point I got my voidwalker, up until lvl 60, I would say I had an easy time soloing quests and such. How i've kinda gone about it is, get up to level 10 in the newbie zone (usually up to level 5 in the newb spot, then lvl 5-10 in the rest of the zone its in), then at lvl 10 you have pretty much 2 choices of areas you want to go to, and probably a third in the area where the night elves are at, but not sure. So, you get a set of quests that go between lvl 10 and 20 or so in the first lvl 10 area you go to. I would normally start on the easiest one, and do them until they got up to being like, 3 lvls above me or so (normally this would be Loch Modan for any of those who have played). Then i'd go to Westfall, which is near the Human starting area. Id then go get the quests there, and do them starting from the easiest, until they got too high, and by then I could go back to Loch Modan and finish the ones that were too high before.

Now, thats pretty much the same deal that you do all the way thru the game. Each quest takes anywhere from 20min to a couple hours to finish. You can easily log on for 20-30min and actually get some things done, which is great. Sometimes i'd find a quest where the monsters didn't really drop the things I needed very often, so i'd tackle it over a few days time maybe killin them for an hour here, etc. I did mining and engineering as tradeskills, so sometimes id just log on and go mine for a few.

Now, thru most of the zones I went thru, there were probably.. 20% of the quests there that, either was really hard solo, or, you should probably get a few others to help. These really dont need to be completed at all, but they usually end up having some nice items.

Getting a group at pretty much any hour wasn't a problem, all you had to do was send a message in the general channel that you were looking for group on these quests. A lot of times id find help, or just help someone else doing a quest that i didnt need, because they usually dont take longer then... 30min to complete at the most.

Its pretty slick what they did about leveling up I think. In EQ, from what I can remember, I did a lot of grinding just to gain exp. A lot. In WoW, you essentially still grind, but its hidden behind a quest that your doing. The quests are usually (Kill 10 Birds, 10 Bears, and 15 Snakes), (Collect 15 stones from the golems), or (Kill this named guy and get his head). There are also other different types of quests like summoning a monster and killing it. The nice thing also is that when your done doing that quest, you get to turn it in and get good chunk of xp.

In the end I am definately going to buy it the day it comes out. With EQ, I was never able to hit the cap, and I had like.. 130 days played or so. I probably knew the world better then most that were higher lvl then me, I spent a lot of that time exploring around the zones. The Xp penalty in EQ sucked bad, In WoW there's no xp death penalty at all, no debt, nothing. Pretty much the only penalty is having to run back to your corpse. Anyway, fun game, hopefully the open beta will start soon and everyone can see for themselves.
