Yeah, in France you actually get paid once you get in the very best engineering schools, and the next best ones are basically free, all expenses paid. But the side effect is that a lots of students with NO interest in science and/or engineering get into them, and then do completely unrelated things once they get out, usually some well paid managers. So in the end, if you like science but aren't too good, you can't get into the schools, and there still aren't enough engineers in the end.
You also have great areas in Alaska of jumbled up, blasted fauna caracases, many of them torn apart. [s8int.com]
It could have been an interesting read, if it were not for the fact that all the citations date from the 60s at the most recent... and all the side links to Noah's flood, dinosaur sightings and such.
We need rovers that can get to some more risky locations
Indeed. Why don't they land a rover at the bottom of the very deepest canyon ? Higher air pressure, more humidity... They should start mass producing those rovers. Making 10 of them is probably hardly more expensive than just making one anyway.
I don't care if you can live off his stuff; I want VARIETY from my food (and many other things in life as well). I cannot imagine having to eat the same thing every day, I'd much rather be already dead.
Is the fever a side result of the effect of the virus on the organism ? Or is it a way for the organism to fight the virus and eliminate it ? Because we get fevers in most cases of severe infections and I doubt most germs are sensitive to a 3C increase in body temperature... I can still brew beer from anything like 10C to 40C...
Revert the GIMP's atrocious Save As.../Export As... abomination.
I converted my family to Linux with little effort, but going from Paint Shop Pro to Gimp was the most painful. It takes a long time to have even a basic grasp of any graphics program; that's expected and OK. But when they did this modification, I wept. Try to explain to a bunch of 70 year old that, no they can't open a jpg, modify it and save anymore. They now open it, modify it, save, no, there's no save option. Why? OK, let's 'save as'. Well, even if I change the extension to jpg as I dutifully learned, it still refuses to save. Leave. OK, there's an export option. Let's do that. It's the wrong extension. Oh, and also the wrong directory. OK, now it's done, let's close the image. Why does it say "your image is not saved" ?!? Go ahead GIMP devels, explain your fucking rationale to a bunch of 70 year old. Or anybody for that matter.
Another seldom mentioned issue is that you can't come in them and keep going: they simply blow up within seconds if you do that. Which means that if man comes first, he can't do the effort to keep going until the girl comes.
It was rather implied. In contrast the Aztec empire wanted the loosing soldiers to survive just long enough so that they would have open heart surgery on top of a pyramid...
I've long wondered why there is no resistance buildup to traditional soap. I know that soap does not have a chemical effect on germs but a physical effect: it basically unglues them and then water carries them away. But I don't see how that would make a difference; so why haven't germs evolved a better way to stick to your skin after 3000 years of soap use ?
Yes, and I'm curious to what happens to the messages you send when connected to this fake 'tower': do they just go down the bit bucket or does that suitcase forward them to a real tower. For that matter, can you receive and place calls when you are conneccted to that ? How dangerous could that be, right ?
Methinks that the only place where this should be allowed is in jail: to monitor the use of cell phones by the inmates. Record or block but don't let them connect to outside normal towers.
I've been waiting for this for... forever. But not just [Enable]/[Disable], I also want [Produce random fake data] and [Produce data generated by external app hereby selected]. So that I can write or load an app that feeds intelligent but fake info to the others.
I imagine "brain dead" can be progressive. If you stop blood flow to a part of the barin for a short while, you may consider that part of the brain 'dying' or even dead if it has indeed stopped processing information. The other still working parts will experience a lot of unforeseen effects from that. Bring the bloodflow back and things may resume as normal, or they may stay off. Anyway just to say that the brain is a complex system and messing with it (through drugs or health issues) can have a lot of strange consequences.
...no it's not. I avoid going to restaurant terraces nowadays because it's impossible to breathe: all the smokers sit there and keep pumping during the entire meal. You eat in a cloud of smoke.
I'm familiar with this, but I always found the distinction between atheist and agnostic contrived. Having grown up in a place that had no religion I never even thought about it until I went to the US and had it thrust in my face at every corner. Was I an atheist or an agnostic ? The distinction doesn't make sense in that case. Nowadays I make the distinction between people who are quiet atheist/agnostics and those who are vocal about it. Which is what I had to become after some time in the US as some form of defense mechanism.
Haaaa, that's a good question. There are actually entire religions which are based on drugs. Siberian shamans who use Amanita Muscaria to induce hallucinations (but don't eat them directly because they are toxic, instead they feed them to cattle and drink their urine to filter out the toxics while keeping the hallucinogenics). To the greek religion which seems to have used drugs during the Eleusinian Mysteries. To many others (berserkers, ashishins, etc). So what makes you think that it is not the other way around: some guy eats up the wrong mushroom, has a bad trip, convinces others that he's seen heaven or other religious aspect, and organized religion runs with it, even long after the original bad trip has been forgotten ? Like they say:
"Christianity, as many religions, was just dreamed up by a couple people with really good imaginations, a lot of time on their hands, and even some 'herbal' help. I mean, who would dream up half of that crap without being totally baked ?" -- Jillian A. Spencer.
Well, that link was mostly in reply about your second link (which I personally think is complete bullshit). As for the first link, I read that article with interest, but I see nothing in it that supports religion in any way: first they do not differentiate between religions. And second the difference between being religious and not is statistically non-significant. I never understood why people get all rilled up about near death experience. Of course being near death is gonna shake you up. And also being pumped full of anesthetics which are actually hallucinogenics. So what if you see tunnels (ha, restriction of the field of vision) or weird shit like pearly gates ?!? It's like asking LSD users about the ultimate question about life, the universe and everything.
Calibre can easily strip the DRM off your Kindle books. Yes, it's a Linux app.

I'm posting to remove error in moderation, but you make NO fucking sense.

Woah, that thing is ugly. And has serious mandibular prognathism problems. It looks like the vehicles we use to pick up dog shit.

I read that 3 times as: "1/2 the price of a lesser scope that still only shows you boobs". And I kept wondering what was wrong with that.

Then how about you start by NOT sexually mutilating hundreds of millions of baby boys in plenty of countries and religions. Barbaric.
One of the field's many problems is the lack of a good definition for intelligence.
Intelligence is the ability to draw correct conclusions from incomplete information. There, you have it.
motorcycle helmets (which are much more effective but impractical for bicycles
Actually downhill mountain bike helmets are similar to motorcycle helmets. But they are indeed impractical for pedaling up because they are too warm.
Plenty of those drums are just plastic.

banning outdoor smoking is ridiculous
