Judges are actually quite important, you'll probably agree if you're ever dragged to court.
I spent an hour deciding who I was going to vote for by going over the ballot I downloaded from my county's website.
Gee, that was hard.
To the original "ask slashdot" posted - In the time it takes you to type up "dear slashdot, my mom says I should vote. What should I DO!?1??2!!1" you could probably have figured out who to vote for. This isn't rocket science.
You're going to have a hell of a time day trading with $1000 - and you haven't done much research, as live broker fees are way higher than fees you'll see at etrade or tdameritrade (which are typically around 10 bucks a trade depending on where you go)
I find it very curious that an operating system REQUIRES me to have it.
Do you really find that curious? Big brother worries aside, how many computers these days don't make use of networking? When all is said and done, there's a lot of other things that I find more curious about what Microsoft absolutely requires in their operating system.
Roughly, here's a how a typical product cycle works at a normal company:
R&D --> Production --> Quality Assurance --> Launch --> Marketing and Sales --> Technical Support + Luck (hoping everything works smoothly and there are no serious issues that the company might have missed).
But here's how a typical product cycle works at Apple:R&D --> Production --> Launch --> Marketing and Sales --> Real World Testing (Quality Assurance) --> Recall, Technical Support, Mass Hysteria --> "Re-Release" --> Success (Notice how Apple doesn't need luck. It has already used an early batch of excited loyalists to do real world testing before launching a refined product).
Give me a break, did this guy's nano just die?
Maybe I'm expecting too much. Whatever it may be, if Apple can't ship better first generation products and is having a troubling time maintaining quality, I don't think Apple should focus on increasing its market share. Apple is not responsible enough to handle a small (I use this term loosely) group of users; do we really expect them to be a mainstream company?
I don't know if you're trolling but I'll bite. Yes they are... Not "stupid," just ignorant of how the whole internet works. A lot of people just know that they click on the blue E icon and they're "on the internet." Suggest something like "try using a different browser" and you're bound to hear the response "what's a browser?" If you haven't heard something like that, then you haven't been helping relatives with computer problems long enough.
The concepts of how everything out there works is very clear to you I'm sure, but for most people it might as well be magic.
They're always great. I suppose it's easier than writing something new. There's bound to be some sort of hollywood remake backlash coming soon... I hope.
All this excitement may to have led some users to install Boot Camp without taking many precautions, ignoring the fact that the software is a "beta" product, and that Apple said at the beginning it wouldn't offer technical support.
I guess they learned their lesson in a similar way most people learn that backups are important - by being caught without them. Shame on them for using a BETA PARTITION TOOL without doing backups.
I just did a search for my name and it returned documents on my website that have been gone for years... Their cache on my last name is HORRIBLY out of date... Just one search though, maybe they can compete better on more common terms.
Does it support spanning archives across tapes yet? I used amanda a lot about 4 years ago and was amazed that it didn't support such a simple function.
I consider this one of the positive aspects. Political correctness has gone awry in our culture. Think about it. Are you really offended by that joke or do you read it and think "oh man, somebody could be offended by that joke."
All hard drive players suck. I have a Rio and it did the same thing... Which is why everyone wants to move to flash, but the technology isn't quite there yet for high capacity devices. I'm waiting patiently... I won't buy another hard drive based device, but there is a market and I think Apple does just as well as everyone (in that particular mp3 player aspect anyway) in giving consumers what they want with the given technology
We used to make little whistles out of the metal parts holding the eraser in on the end of pencils. The teacher used to stop the class everyday and walk around looking for the wistles that we assured her that we didn't hear. She thought she was going insane.
If you use a mac, you'll find that you type in your password far less than you might think you would. I don't do it that often, I don't think I'm that desensitized... I don't do it that often on my linux boxes either.
My roommate however tried to set up a non-admin account on his windows computer and found it impossible to get any work done without changing over to admin all the time... Worse yet, things would fail mysteriously without any inidication of what the problem was "why can't I delete my documents on my external harddrive?!?!" He was just complaining about that today.
Just because they weren't the most popular characters ever doesn't mean they wouldn't make good movies... I mean, look at it from the opposite direction. The Daredevil and Hulk movies sucked... So did Catwoman for that matter. Punisher wasn't that great either... Hm...
and have found that 99 times out of 100 I don't need to click to enable the plugin. Flash is used almost exclusively for ads now-a-days. They're so obnoxious too...

No, but it's nice to have. I didn't really realize what I was missing until I had HD.
You are completely wrong... It's only been able to do crossfade (ugh)
I use this to turn it off on my mac.

Too bad this guy's not in charge
It looks kinda like gnome... Doesn't it? I can't say I care for it very much.

Is this really news?

You need to relax, you're part of the problem.
