It would seem that predicting where someone will be when they're following their normal routine or schedule is nice and all, but who can't figure that out now? When you can predict where people will be when they're NOT following their routine or schedule, then you have something.
Happiness doesn't buy money, and money doesn't buy happiness. They are two separate things.
Very well said, but one thing alot of people forget about is that the two are not always mutually exclusive.

How about pay the teachers what they're worth? And give them the respect and dignity they deserve? When it all comes down to it, it's the teachers who stand up in front of the class day in and day out, and if you're working for barely enough to survive on (and certaintly not enough to buy a home these days), and you know that a single bad stuident can get you fired, or sanctioned how much motivation are you going to have? Not to say our current teachers are bad, I think they do amazing considering it all, but I think you find you'll have happier educators who will work harder for their students and come up with better lessons if they're not worrying about making their rent, staying in a low paying job, or pissing off a student or their parents. This has always been a problm I think you can get immediate returns out of if you simply throw money at it, and stand behind the teachers instead of crucifying them at the first problem.
Personally, I'd manufacture a still (legal for fuel purposes) for producing ethanol. you can convert most gasoline running engines to run on ethanol w/ little inconvenience. use the 12 grand for the conversion of a car/truck/lawnmower, etc... and the facilities to create and store ethanol. Check out Brazil. They've had excelllent progress with this.
2) have he non-user servicable battery die on you after 12 months...
Thus is the benefit of having a cell phone company involved. THEY understand the concept of removable/easily replaceable batteries.
As for the contract, you don't HAVE to sign up for 2 years, I have refused to every time I get a new phone/service. it costs more up front, but the benefits down the road make a big difference.
I've always said I want a Cell-Phone/iPod/PDA all in one unit. Looks like it's almost time to empty out my bank account and truly become an Apple Fanboy!:)
I believe it requires IE for the active X (Not sure, it's been a while since I looked into it) built into IE. it's no big concern as we always have a windows box on our home network, but it does suck.
I'm sceptical of the claim that konqueror couldn't display the router web page because I'm sure most routers use pretty basic HTML
I wouldn't be skeptical. I've got a router which I can only access form IE. I've got Windows, OSX, And diff flavors of unix (depending on my mood that day), and the damn router will only work w/ IE.
I would argue however that this is not Linux's fault. It's the *$%^%^%$^$! Manufacturers fault for putting out a crappy interface.

Does any of the remaining profit go to the Artists or is it used by the RIAA to sue more "customers"?
That's a mighty interesting point. Any sales of CD's etc, they have to give a small percentage to the artists. But I'll bet the artists don't get a single cent form a lawsuit brought on their behalf to recoup their losses. An interesting back door for the companies to keep all of the money for themselves and give nothing to the artists who they're supposedly doing this for?
After all, you're gonna be the one stuck with the job that it leads you to.
I gotta back this one up. Get another degree in what you're interested in, cuz you very well could be stuck with it.
In my case that was the reality. I got a degree in Physics and Mechanical Engineering. When I applied for Mech E. Degrees I got shot down right and left because they looked at my bresume and said this guy is overqualified, or thatI was not really interested in what they do. It was one of the rare cases where a dual degree can hurt you. Now I do IT. funny how that works!
Bottom line, pick what you're most interested in using your skillset of Comp Sci in. Think of CS as a means to an end, not an end in iteself and you will do yourself a favor in the long run.
Another thought, if you don't know what you want to do, get several minors. one in math, statistics, EE, Bio, Physics, Astronomy, Business. If you know the basics, you can learn the rest on the job. Plus, it won't nail you down.
There are several problems here. First, the school is not intending to track their every move and make them more safe, they state they are doing it to ease the process of taking attendance. And what are they taking away for this paltry convenience? The very privacy and rights of our future generations!
Is this technology going to stop some crazed lunatic from coming in the door of the school? Nope. might it stop some kids from skipping class, or sneaking in the back door un-noticed? sure. but damn, that's just kids being kids. For those of us out of school, imagine how much less school would have been enjoyable if you couldn't get by with the odd broken rule?
Is it any wonder that in a recent study (referenced here on slashdot) that HS kids think the freedom of the press is too free? Ie, the gov't should ok an article before it's published? Does anyone wonder why these children have those ideas? because they're never given the belief or knowledge of their rights!!!
I'm an American. I cherish my right to live my life w/out some big brother constantly looking over my shoulder and judging me and ensuring I stick to the party line. What's the quote..? I man who would give up some of his rights for a little security, deserves neither. I'll take my chance in this crazy world we live in. As long as I can live my life, my way! and ya know what? I hope to instill in my children that same beliefe in freedom and privacy as I have.
See ya'll on the other side of the broder after the police state.
I came out of college w/ a degree in Physics and engineering. And while my programming experience wasn't as good as yours (lots of fortran and some C++) I found the perfect route for myself. Take what you will form it and hopefully it will help you out. I started working at a major astronomy program (think big telescope in space) If you have good physics, computer and analytic skills, you can get a job w/ just a BS. It was an excellent opportunity for the following reaons:
1) - Good paycheck! I was making more than enough to survive and pay off debt.
2) - Opportunity to build your resume for grad school. (all of the people I worked with went to Tier 1 schools when they left)
3) - Ability to do research in your spare time. Researchers are always willing to accept free labor:)
4) - Ability to take classes for free. (or at signifigant discount)
5) - Chance to go to conferences and present research (ie, make a name for yourself)
I can think of a few more but I actually have to get to work now. Give me an email if you want some specific suggestions and places I personally know of.
X-rays and ultraviolet light are turned into bright red and green shades, which destroys any data actually contained in the red or green visible spectrum.
Actually working on X-ray astronomy for many years, I thought I'd comment on your point. Any imaging CCD usually does not pick up wavelength of light outside of the band in which it's designed to observe. Be it through the materials used in the construction of the CCD, the filter placed in front of it, or the mirrors used to direct light. This is done to eliminate any possibility of un-intended consequences (for instance mirrors used to funnel X-rays to a CCD are often quite good at funneling high energy protons as well, which usually cause a bit of damage.) and to eliminate as much uncertainty and error in the system.
And while I agree with your comment, that most pictures released by astronomers are simply meant to WOW the audience, when images of non-visible wavelengths are given false colors, no data is lost from that specturm. (Unless we're talking about a broad band imaging from multiple observatories... but that's a different subject)
The images scientists actually care about usuaully contain too much information for a 2-D colorized representation and are not very useful on paper.
Among other things, she proposed scrapping the Betamax decision, which makes it legal to timeshift TV shows with a VCR.
What I just don't get is, the VCR and similar products, which they want to make illegal, have increased the amount of money and time I spend watching tv, and listening to music. If they go and make these things illegal, and make it a pain in my ass to watch TV or music, or what have you, guess what? All you big-monopolistic, price-raising, customer and artist screwing morons are going to have none of my money. I just won't do it anymore! think about it!
go into safari, do a search in the google bar for "windows manager" or maybe "desktop manager" there is a wonderful little app for windowing on MasOSX.
