Only if you are trying to lock yourself in your current position. "Sorry, man, we seriously considered making you the regional VP, but, who would run our systems?"

Also, if you get a chance, smooch with the Director/Sr. manager

Just don't overdo it, as it might breed resentment with your fellow employees. Also, if everybody identifies you as the director's main minion, if he's axed, chances are you will be too.

A nice way to prevent is to include your fellow coworkers in these kind activities.

Somehow I don't see this happening. From a provider's point of view, logs are far too important.

Sometimes accounting is based on those logs, and even if they aren't, there's always the issue of accountability. (Say, a customer complains that he hasn't been able to connect in the past four months, ISP pulls authentication logs and shows him that someone has been using his account from xyz phone number, for x amount of time, etc.)

"Maybe I don't want the files saved by my program to be opened by any other program. Don't like that? Then don't fricking use my program."

Of course, it's not black and white (is it ever?) In a well regulated market there's usually a provision for the regulatory organism to keep tabs on the "dominant provider" to make sure it doesn't throws everything off balance.

Still, I'm all about choice. Open standards are well and good (and should be embraced), but the way to enforce them should not be thru goverment mandated fines.

So unless the county becomes an ISP, I don't think this is feasible. It's been a while since I last dealt with ARIN (bending over backwards to obtain an extra /19) so this might not be the case.

Consider Animal Crossing: You get the game, then get a GBA + link cable + e-reader (that plugs into GBA) so you can buy a pack of cards (on top of all that) that "adds" new functionality to the game.
