Go ahead, mod me down as a troll if you wish...
You people don't get it. Apple is a hardware company, not a software company. That's why charge $129 for Mac OS updates instead of the hundreds M$ does. If Mac OS X were ever ported to intel harware, Apple would vanish. M$ would stop supporting the platform. No one is going to buy Mac OS for hundreds of $$ and not even be able to use Office 9which I hate but many people love). I love Apple; let's be realistic here.
The solution for CEO pay is simple: No CEO can make more than 10x more than the lowest paid employee in his company, stock options included. This may, at first glance, seem like a lot but consider right now the average CEO pay is 400x of the average worker.
Let me get this straight: You release a combo tablet pc that isn't really good in any of three forms, has no voice or handwriting software and has an "any key" in anticipation of BSODs. Yes, sign me up for this reliable, easy to use gem!
Just before Mr. Salvatore broke big, he was a guest at a convention I was running (ConFusion in Massachusetts) and he is a nice guy and writes passable enough novels but let's give him a break. Look at the material he has to work with. I'm not surprised it's bad.
Caldera OpenLinux was my first Linux distro a few years ago. It really helped me get started; it had a graphical install, which was a novelty at the time (complete with a game, Tetris, I believe) and a great manual to help you get going with KDE. Without Caldera, I probably would have never gotten into Linux.
Now years later, Caldera makes you buy per seat licenses (!) for OpenLinux, has a slow development cycle and it seems to ignore GNOME completely. Other disstros have passed it by in the ease of installation and use. Sad.
I like having protections for my works but there are limits. Generally, unless you are a Stephen King, a book will go out of print in 5-7 years, usually less, as sales fall to a trickle. Additionly, once an author is dead, who really cares? Books are written to read, appreciated and shared. I don't care if people steal my book, as long as they read it. And read really, if no one is reading your book, or if you are dead, why not release into the public domain.
Copyrights should last 25 years, no renewals. Coporate copyrights should last even last less, to spur innovation and inprovement of abandoned product s(Really, why would really want to keep the source code to CP/M in a vault for 99 years)?
Just my.02
As someone who regularly sells hardware on Ebay, I agree with what you have posted. I actually encourage people to email me. I try to be as friendly and responsive as possible; I treat people the way I want to be treated.
As for the money/cashier's check..that's a yes and no. I personally do not like PayPal and it's ilk and vastly prefer money orders/cashier's check but I am in the business of selling. if a customer wants PayPal, fine, I'll take it. Escrow is fine too on big items, if they pay the fees. I want to make it as easy as possible.
My experience on Ebay is that 80% of buyers and sellers are fine but always, be cautious.
When I started using Linux the very first thing I did was get Civ:Call To Power for Linux. Sure it was out for the Mac but here it was, a shrink wrapped game for Linux. I played then game for hours and hours. Sure, Civ:CTP ain't the greatest game but it ran great on Linux. I still play it, along with every other game Loki ported. The games installed so well. It was a joy using them.
It is sad to see Loki go. Loki is example not only of a great Linux porting house, but a great porting house on any platform, period.
Good luck, guys!
QNX RTP really is a fine little OS. Runs great on older machines, has a nice GUI and a wide range of applications for it. The built in browser, Voyager, is pretty good.
Oh ya and there is a version of Quake III for it.

I got the latest Moby CD and it isn't that great. Maybe he should at himself before blaming his fans.
Have they no clue? No grasp? Don't they realize they're just further alienating their own customers?
if it wasn't for Ebay and Bibliofind (now part of Amazon) I never would have been able to find copies of my father's book and my grandmother's book.

There are enough trademarks in that story to gag the most jaded lawyer!

Uh...it's Macs...Not MACs.
"Directory Listing Denied This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed." Yepper!
STOP THE INSANITY!! Enough, enough is enough!
would get my daughter to brush her teeth! bring it on!
In it's quest for "innovation" M$ has killed these OSes: Amiga Atari/Lynx OS/2 BeOS DOS Such a shame...
Darwin is just the BSD underpinnings of Mac OS X, a whole OS onto itself. Darwin forms the base of Mac OS X but is not Mac OS X.
