    You have a point, though I would reiterate, it isn't theft, in either case. If YOU want to claim it IS theft, you are wrong.

    Pirating software in this case is for profit and pirating music is typically done for personal use, which is an important distinction, legally if not morally. Doesn't make it right (IMHO), but it does make it different.

    I gotta tell ya, it isn't as easy to validate data as you might think. There are some strange names out there, and the minute you make it too stringent someone will roll along with a name like "Ã¥esop D'Jord the 2nd" and you'll get a support call.

    I blame the inequality of the current system. Give H1B's more rights and this becomes a level playing field. As it is, companies have h1b's by the balls.

    Do you write perl projects in Visual studios? If so, please let me know your setup (visual perl, etc), if not, STFU.

    Perhaps not all (there may be plugins I'm not aware of) but most of what you mentioned exists in VI either inherent or through plugins (refactoring, file management, and version control integration, even intellisense). Granted, some of these aren't as feature rich implementations, but they are there. It also sports some features that VS does not have, like more advanced code folding, more language support, and some of the capacities from the command line are just fantastic. I use both on a regular basis.

    It may not be statistically significant, but there is such a thing. In 3 years I've gotten 2 promotions and several merit raises, and I'm making 47% more than I was when I started(straight out of college). I'm about to start a new job for a different company for an additional 13% more money.

    These smart people will be associated, rationally, with the company for which they work. If they are so smart they could certainly find a job elsewhere. The slippery slope murder argument doesn't belie our culpability, be it small or significant, in the entities we choose to serve.

    I tried that once, but typing something that long quickly over and over becomes quite frustrating, especially since you can't verify that you did it right and sometimes get locked out if you type it wrong too many times on a system.

    Come on, lets think of a sustainable solution. What about electric cars, flex fuels, hydrogen?
     
    I don't want the government tracking me through gps, so there needs to be a different way to get a usage based metric to fund the building/maintaining of roads, unless we want a flat tax. Tolls might work well along with flat city taxes for city street usage.

    the cultural stigma that still surrounds abortion is a vestige of the religious fundamentalism that dominated our culture in the past.

    Or, perhaps it's a more primal urge to not kill off our own kind. Associating it with religion to me appears as an attempt by you to dismiss the other side's argument out of hand. To view the growth of a human in such a snapshot manner is myopic at best, dishonest at worst. When cows have an anticipated development path to become a part of the human race you'll have an argument with which I can relate.

    OTOH, I completely agree with your take on anonymity.
