It's becoming increasingly common to have to do your job WRONG to keep it.
When you ask your superiors: Do you want it quick, cheap or good? - You know which one they will NOT choose.
As for Daniel E. Geer Jr. he did a good job... I am quite sure he will find a job pretty quick, however I do doubt the job will be with a large company.
Once we get the proposed 'asteroid hit' probability scale proposed...... then we can have notification relayed to a plethora of Syslog consoles that can take appropriate action (backup, shutdown, pager)
It's good to have a backup if the asteroid hits, you know.
While working at a hospital.... how about putting the mobile in a transparent plastic bag, and discard the bag after use?
Seems fairly easy to implement.
"the terrorists are just a stupid bunch of assholes who want to use fear to affect our daily lives but not actually give a reason on what sorta reforms they are fighting for"
Nobody does something 'voluntarily' without a reason. If we don't get the reason; blame the media/authorities.
I manage to get a ~50% BROWSING speedup by using Squid (with transparent proxying, on my linux gateway) on a raid 0 array (2xIBM 15Gb drives*) with 256M allocated for squid memory and ...tada... A caching DNS.
Nothing expensive, considering the machine is a Pentium1 200 MMX.
* Well, IBM deskstars and RAID 0 aren't really a wise thing, but the raid 0 is only for squid use, the system itself is RAID 1 and therefore relatively safe.
Well after seing a lot of plastics degrade after being in sunlight IMHO I think that it would be a good idea to use some kind of strong, sturdy glass instead of plastic.
To begin with glass doesn't bend easily, doesn't scratch easily, and is more resistant to heat.
Maybe a special DURABLE glass CDROM could could be made of two layers of glass with different refractive indices. One layer is imprinted (read: poured over) from a master, the second layer is poured on the first..... The resulting reflective layer in between would be used to store the DATA.
I bet such a setup would be expensive, but if you want to conserve something REALLY important, you'd do it.
What do you call a beowulf cluster of these?
A Jurassic park!
So much for free speech!

They can do nothing about it, those procedures came straight from the very TOP.
If you don't get the drift, the very TOP is the originator of my sig.

That kid obviously has waaaay too much money on his hands. I can't imagine doing that my freshman year.
There might be other slow-loading free software projects that could benefit from this.
Open Office developers take note!
Last week, Microsoft Corp. announced a computer mouse with horizontal scrolling capabilities and even a mouse outfitted in leather

In short: in corporate america the artists *PAY* the company for their work!
Beowulf cluster of beer?
Just wait until the system admin is alone with the cluster.

I'm off to the patent office. Cya.
Maybe SCO will be the next to sell BSD....
If not; go get them SCO!!! (I'm sure SCO owns some of the code in BSD, must be, I tell ya!)
I still haven't managed to get a date by using nanotubes.
Way to go, nanotubes.
Well.....
If you can't break the encryption....
You can always break(as with a hammer) the encryption equipment.
I really wonder how a Beowulf Cluster of these would look like.
What's the admission status for north korean students?
Just something to think about regarding this World Nuclear University.
I celebrated the beginning of the 21'st century....
and all I got was this lousy toynbee tile!
And this is what you'll be seeing going through that garage door.
Next election should be done through Slashdot Poll!
Most reliable results!
Vote Cowboyneal for president!
and maybe bring the Lewinsky back....
Actually the last two should be swapped IMHO.
Parking Algorithms?

Donald E. Knuth must surely have thought about these
