Well I'm sorry Mr. I-Never-make-mistakes-when-trying-to-think-quickly -of-examples. It's not by Sega but it's still an original game.
When the HELL did anyone appoint you God? Don't get your panties in a knot when people make mistakes.
Sega has made some original games. Jet Set Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Rez, Super Monkey Ball, Chu Chu Rocket, Crazy Taxi, Ooga Booga, Seaman, Samba de Amigo, Dance Dance Revolution, Sega Gaga (in Japan anyway). It's one of the reasons I'm a big Sega fan. But what do they get for it? Most of this stuff didn't sell. If you want original games, put your money where your mouth is and buy them. I don't blame developers for being very wary of making "original" games, because their fears of poor sales are well founded. Yes, Sega sucks when it comes to promoting games, but thats not the whole reason for poor sales.
A game doesn't have to be original or unique to be a good game. A game can be totally unique and suck. But it's nice not to have the same damn thing over and over again.
Yeah, the "government conspiracy" aspect does not interest me in the slighest. Who knows, it could just be a failed prototype arcade game. There's plenty of those. Doubtful, but worth looking into for that aspect.
It does seem like a hoax though. If you have the rom then why not release it?
I like Seamus Blackley, I really do. But its funny that he should talk about lack of originality and tie ins to other people's IP, because the last thing he worked on was Trespasser: Jurassic Park.
Gee, Jurassic Park isn't one of those movie things that spouts endless tie ins and sequels that suck and just won't die. That's totally original. Though to his credit it is not a direct tie in to one of the movies.
Profitability. Or lack thereof. Same reason why there aren't more Mac games. Do the potential gains justify the cost of porting it? Some games would be easier than others, but theres not a lot of money to be made in the Linux market.
The other thing is that most people that play these kinds of games dualboot windows/linux. I'd say dualbooting is much more prevalent than using winex for games.
I'm not saying anything negative about Linux. I use Linux. But how many gamers, or just regular casual gamers, use Linux and only Linux at home?
The GPL is means to make your code more avaliable to the community, not for protection. Actually, it does both. It encourages you to make your code available to the community by protecting your work, and you from your work. If I write a program and want to give it away, I can place it in the public domain. However, other people could take my work, modify it, sell it, and not "give back" to the community from which it came. I may also be liable for any damage done by the program if it malfunctions. The GPL ensures that you can give it away to the community without worry of those two situations.
How do you plan on standing out from the other 100+ candidates in this election? As much as I believe in your platform, I think the average voter will see it as no different than anyone elses seemingly minor issue, such as the man who wants to legalize ferrets as housepets. Also, how do you plan to combat the starpower and name recognition of actors and politicians such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gary Coleman, and the man who shares the same name as Michael Jackson?
Can the captain of the ship marry you in space like he can at sea? Captain Kirk did it... No wait, the groom died, didn't he? Hope the cosmonaut isn't wearing a red shirt.
I'm still using my 1986 RCA, my 1985 Zenith, and my knobby 1982 GE. I'd be happy just to step up to remote control let alone HDTV. But I'd say for that kind of budget, HDTV is an absolute must. You'll regret it later when everything is Hi-Def. Even PBS is going digital.
3. You do not own the right to edit, copy or otherwise distribute the product. The product is a copyrighted material. If you edit the song to use at a dance party you MUST get permission from the holder of the copyright.
I don't see how editing fits in with distribution. In fact, I can do whatever I want with the song, if its personal, non-commercial use. I would have the same rights to play an edited song at a party as I would a non-edited song. Whether its adding my voice, or bleeping out certain words. Now, if I tried to call it my own work or the author's work and sell it, thats against the law.
A robot running a Microsoft OS? Is that safe? Diz r0bot iz 0wn3d.
two-way audio and video technology Runs around the board meeting or the expo shouting obscentities or just emitting a high pitched tone. Maybe if its got one of those r2d2 electro zappers on it...
a self-charging robot... Oh wait, it does.
working to replace the remote controls lying around the home with one device You mean like, a, universal remote?
Thats true... You need a special dispensation from the pope for them to do anything most of the time. I wonder what Billy Bulger's reaction would be if UMASS got one of those supoena's.
2. The only companies to produce BIOS codes would be IBM, and people that paid IBM royalties
Compaq secretly agreed to pay IBM royalties on each PC they sold, so IBM would drop the suit. The agreement's existance was a secret until recently.
8. CD-R's would have been outlawed and require a liscence to buy or own Some countries charge a "tax" on each CD-R sold that goes to the RIAA, because that CD "might" be used to pirate their music. I think Canada and Sweden do this, among others. If they get money on each CD-R, that should constitute a licence to fill it with downloaded music. But I think a lot of crazy things.
5. All operating systems that ran on PC's would have to be liscenced from Microsoft
Refer to the "Microsoft Tax" on most PC's made by the big companies, no matter what OS is on them.
You're dead on though... It's scary to see how much of that is actually going on today.
X-Prize?:: Probably not. This cannot be executed or copied from a third party memory card ala 007. So opening the box is required. Partial payment maybe.
Couldn't you load a simple file manager through the 007 exploit that could copy the files for you? I dunno. I hope so. Though, I still don't think even that would qualify for the prize.
or just use the themes and ideas of Potter (as in Tanya Grotter's case) How can you copyright themes and ideas? Does all future fantasy work now violate their copyright? There's nothing totally original and new there. I don't see a problem as long as its not using the character names or trademarks, or claim to be written by Rowling, or if the author has Harry Potter in one hand and a pen in the other. How many works were "inspired" by Tolkien? If its just a little *too* close, go ahead and sue. But I dunno how someone fighting with a grenade launcher infringes on Harry Potter.
I wasn't trying to jump all over you, I apologize. I guess thats a step in the right direction. I'm still using Gentoo anyway. I'm sure what I'm concerned about will probably be addressed.
How many for profit companies have a "make a donation" button on their frontpage, or use a.org tld? If its not deception then its obfuscation. For profit companies don't take donations. They sell things. How about removing the donations button and selling some cd's or books or t-shirts.
I don't mind it being commercial at all. But in the past it seemed like they were trying to give the impression of a non-profit (and still use a.org). I have nothing against companies or making money. But yeah, it's definitely being mismanaged.
As a Gentoo user, this makes me feel much less enthusiastic about where this project is headed. Especially the shady practices of the guy in charge (particularly, trying to pass themselves off as a non-profit). I will probably go with the fork as soon as possible.
The sky pirate theme - yes, original. The gameplay - no, except maybe for the airship battles.

"people who the system has shown to have value."
So if I say good things about Microsoft on Usenet, they'll hire me?
I'm a big Sega fan, and I bought an Xbox thinking that it was the console they'd support most. Now I'll have to buy a PoS2... As much as I hate Sony.
I was hoping they'd make some sequels to Phantasy star, Shining Force, Streets of Rage, etc, but I guess this is good too.
(goes back to playing Shining Force CD)

Doesn't look like the Boston area is affected at all... As far as I know we're not part of their power system.

It's a valid point considering their history. How exactly is your post not modded "troll" or "offtopic"? Get a life.
