BRING BACK THE REMOVABLE BATTERY!
I keep replacing my aging Note 4 with the same model because I'm not going to buy another phone of yours that won't let me swap the battery out. The recent Note 8 issue never would have happened if the battery was removable. Sure I have to buy branded OEM versions like Anker or Powerbear because Samsung batteries are counterfeited to death but being able to simply swap the battery when it is low is a critical feature. Otherwise you have to lure people like me with better phones with more ram, internal storage, and cpu power; the screens are big enough already.
There are a ton of these counterfeit batteries for sale; even on reputable places like Amazon.
I have a Note4 and since I can't tell the bad from the good ended up getting branded OEM batteries with good reviews instead of Samsung branded batteries. I've had zero issues with my OhmniPAX, Anker, or Powerbear batteries.
The whole exploding battery could have been resolved a lot easier and probably wouldn't have happened at all had Samsung not chosen to seal the battery into the phone. As it is I won't be upgrading past Note 4 because being able to remove and replace the battery is a feature that is very important to me.
While you're at it join Toastmasters and get some practical experience too.
It did me a world of good!

Yes the price of gas makes owning an SUV or truck much less affordable but there is a huge demand for them!
I bought a car because it was affordable and had low gas mileage... guess what? I HATE IT!!!! Zero down and no interest sounded great.
But when I drive to work in this crap box every day with the seats that are just a tad too narrow, the seat belt buckle digs into my hip, and my arms are in a slightly unnatural position when I drive I cant help wishing I'd just bought the damn Toyota truck I wanted:)
A few weeks ago my car battery died and I had to drive my F150 to meet with a client instead. My wife gets to drive it all the time because she only works 10 miles from home and I have a 35 mile commute each way. What a joy...I forgot how damn comfortable it was to drive! If it got better gas mileage I'd go buy another one.
As I read the totally ridiculous recommendations of people here I can't help wondering if you've been drinking too much enviro-coolaid:) Obviously people LIKE SUV's because they're not impractical ugly death traps. They're big, they're comfortable, and they have enough power to get things done. Do people NEED them to drive around town? Most probably don't. But you don't need your hybrid to drive around town either.
Where does your snobbery end? You're feeling all high and mighty because you bought a hybrid that emits less polution than a SUV.. why don't you just walk to work or take the bus then?
A motorcycle gets much better gas mileage than any four wheeled vehicle how can you justify using a car when it's just you driving to work most of the time? You could just RENT a car when you need to get a bunch of groceries or better yet get a trailer to haul around behind your motorcycle. If you need to bring a passenger then get a side car or have them sit behind you.
Do you see where I'm going here? Don't assume that because you're feeling good with the illusion that you're saving the environment that you're better than the guy that needs a Truck or SUV because he lives a different life than you.
The problem isn't that SUV's are bad. They're not...people love them! It's that they get horrible gas mileage doing things they shouldn't. If they came out with an SUV with an efficiency mode that let you run it on 4 cylinders when driving around town and 8 when you're hauling the boat out of the lake then I'd go buy one right now.
I agree.. Things like moving to a different host using another control panel is very difficult if you're on plesk. Their backup formats don't work from one version to the next. It's pretty, it's easy, it's a nightmare when things go wrong.
Go with a CPanel Host; there are a million of them. Cpanel isn't perfect but it's straight forward to get your data off of the server and move it to another host. I use Host Gator.
There isn't a lot of money in web hosting, you missed the market window by 10 years:)
This is obviously a baseless claim since cordless phones also operate on the same frequency (2.4GHZ). These same people are exposed to all sorts of radiation from cell phones, radio waves, TV, etc; likely they're allergic to something else or lying.
"my VoIP server is NOT on the Internet nor will I do so for privacy and security reasons!" Call me Mr Obvious.. if it is a VoIP server it IS on the internet:) I know what you mean though.. having part of the pbx hosted out on the internet never appealed to me either.
I second your recommendation about the new http://www.nerdvittles.com/ distro. I jumped the Trixbox ship 8 months or so ago when they introduced 'Trixbox Pro'. There is more of a community around the new nerdvittles release than there was with Trixbox; it is more like asterisk@home was like a few years ago but with the goal of being stable. While Trixbox has a forum/etc the community itself wasn't involved in it's development much and releases. Maybe all of this negative attention will get the folks behind Trixbox to realize a few things:)
The same thing happened for me. While I miss being able to return the online movies to the store to swap for another movie it had me watching a lot of crappy movies because I'd either seen everything good or nothing was in stock. Every deal with Blockbuster was short lived.. they'd raise the rate or change the rules after I signed up. I don't feel a complete lack of trust towards Netflix like I did with Blockbuster. The turn around is faster with Netflix too.
I was a Blockbuster customer for about 5 years. Blockbuster's problem in my opinion is that they aren't trustworthy. It started with the rentals due back at noon regardless of when I rented them. If I rent a DVD at 11pm it should be due back by 11pm not NOON! If I return a DVD at 1pm and someone else rents it that day I shouldn't have to pay a damn late fee. In several cases their lazy clerks didn't scan them back in and I had to argue with them to get the late fees taken off. They eventually ended the late fee BS when they were sued. In my opinion If I sign up for something for a certain price that is automatically deducted from my checking account they shouldn't be changing the price without my authorization less than a year later; they did it THREE times with three different deals.
When they came out with the rewards program where you'd get credit for rentals that would give you free movie rentals I thought it was great... until they jacked up the price without my approval; I cancelled it immediately.
Next they had the unlimited DVD rental for a fixed price.. it was great.. No late fees!... until they jacked up price without my approval; I cancelled it immediately.
The next year they launched Blockbuster online... this time I resisted joining right away since I didn't trust them to hold their end of the deal... but I eventually signed up when the lure of renting more movies became unresistable. It was great and being able to return movies to Blockbuster and exchange them for movies in the store was fantastic. Then less than a year later I heard through the grapevine that they would be raising the price and sent their customer service an email letting them know that if they raised the price of my service they'd lose me as a customer forever. A month or so later they raised the price without my authorization AGAIN... I cancelled the service immediately... AND JOINED NETFLIX!
I haven't set foot in the Blockbuster store since and WON'T EVER AGAIN. They lost my trust and my $$ forever. I hope they go out of business:)
With the problem with paypal subscriptions and other payment issues that started a few days ago... I wonder if the reason for the problem is that the FBI has seized computers? Scary thought.
Nope. Internet radio got me interested in new music... some I bought when I liked it like Evanescence. I now made the decision not to buy a single commercial cd, dvd, or anything else that might provide revenue to the RIAA/MPAA. I can live without itunes/etc too. Too bad we can't convince the mindless masses to do the same.
With innovations like this the RIAA and MPAA's days are numbered. I applaud them for shooting themselves in the foot again. They call it Protect DVD-Video.. I call it Protect My-Wallet. Guess what happens if I know I can't use something that is for sale in the market? I WON'T BUY IT. I won't buy a DVD or CD I can't play any more than I would buy rotten fruit.
There will always be someone annoyed enough to crack this type of technology and even if there isn't, what stops a guy from taking video out from a device that will play it and plugging it into an mpeg recorder to record it that way. Where there's a will, there's a way.
I'm not sure the Fonality acquisition is a good or bad thing. I'm hoping they'll put some funds and people towards working out the bugs rather than adding more features.
I really like asterisk and AMP/FreePBX make it easy to manage. If I could fix a few issues such as low volume on bridged zaptel calls, timeouts that don't work for custom extensions (such as to my cell phone) that cause unanswered calls to go to my cell phone's voicemail instead of asterisk's, and an annoying dtmf issue where extensions that are typed in aren't always recognized (related to rx/txgain I think) I'd start deploying it for my customers.
Great job with FreePBX. It's an outstanding piece of work!
I made the mistake of using them awhile back.. First two months went great, on the third month it totally went to crap. I recommend having multiple voip providers especially if one of them is Broadvoice.
In the submitters case I wouldn't do that since it would be too much work and many users don't use the usb drives correctly (just pull the thing out regardless of what is running/etc). It would not be that big of a deal to create a directory for each user on a network drive and populate the directories with the applications they need. The user could copy that directory to a usb drive if they wanted to though.
It also makes it easier to manage since you don't have to be on their computer to fix it... just copy a known good version over theirs on the network drive and it works again. For most people I modify the default settings to write out M$ formatted documents and turn off the nags.
I have this roaming from computer to computer problem on occation.. expecially when I'm on a clients computer that doesn't have Office at all! Usually they don't have a working web browser (IE) either when I get there.
My solution? Portable OpenOffice!
In my case I carry it around with my keys on a USB drive but you could just as well put it on a network drive that your users can access.
I also carry:
I agree with you here. It's always interesting how people that are totally inept or corrupt will blame others for their mistakes and incompetence. Louisiana knew about this problem for at least 20 years and only put together a half assed solution. When the disaster struck County (parish) Government and Louisianan Government should have been in there taking care of this first.
Instead of working on the problem they blame the Federal Government. Typical finger pointing aholes.. They should be pointing the finger at themselves instead.
