Therein lies the problem of the non-smoker. Fortunatly we are in the majority now. I think smoke everywhere is much more oprresive then smoke only in designate areas. Smoke is one of those things that tends to get into the non-smoking areas pretty easily. Too bad I can't afford a private club that is non-smoking.
The problem is, it snows in places near snow, just not as often. Then all hell breaks out because nobody knows how to cope with and inch and a half of snow. Snow is not really a problem when it is properly managed. Ohio and Indiana are two locations where snow gets mixed with ice often, because they are on the edge of the heavy snow areas. This causes many more problems then regular snow does.
I RMA'd the HD on my sister's Dell. It was a really good experience. I've dealt with my share of RMA's and it can really be a pain, but not this time.
I called called from work and explained I didn't have the system in front of me. I explained what I had done to ascertain the drive was the problem. Gave the the smart drive error code and that was it. They sent out a new drive, along with all the CD's for OS and drivers/software (sister lost these).
My experience has been that even when support is decent and you convince them to replace a part CD's must be worth their weight in gold because it is almost impossible to get OS or driver CD's without a huge hassle.
Dell really impressed me.
We had a hell of a time with D600's, the D610 was a huge improvement. Some of our poeple I know (high volume customers) even browbeat Dell into replacing all their D600's w/ D610's because the 600's had so many problems.
Try switching your contact solution. I use Clear Care. It's made a huge difference. That and switching to an LCD instead of a CRT. My eyes still get dry, but I only need drops a couple times a week.
I just wanted to reply to this becuase I discovered that OWL does NOT need a database. You can configure it to either use a database, or the file system.
You just need to set up a Clark Connect server as your router. It can also run behind your router. I've used the road warrior VPN with the windows XP client, it works fine.
Don't complicate things, just set this up on your end, enable the road warrior VPN, and pass out accounts to family memebers with instructions for setting up the XP PPTP client.
Since I haven't seen it yet, I'll put a shoutout to nearlyfreespeech.net. I really enjoy their service, and the price is definitly right, kind of pay as you go.
I always wonder how people can be unemployed for 3 years. I've only a measly associate degree, but I've never had problems finding a job. Max unemployment over the past 7 years is 4 months when I first transitioned into "IT". Sure I've worked alot of crummy temp jobs, but they paid ok. I always wonder when, I see people posting about their unemployment, luckily you left a clue......Dude, it just happens.
Oh, it's one of those guys, who the hell talks like that?
Citrix 4.0 has a bit of virtualization built into it. It allows you to publish an application in a sandboxed environment. You can, for example, install office 97 and 2003 on the same machine.
I'm amazed at what people throw away. I just pulled a 2ghz celeron out of the trash last week. It was a little skimpy on memory (256mb) but it booted up fine and after a drive wipe is now a useful member of computer society again.
Why not save $10, I have the same problems. i'm supposed to be getting 256k up from Insight and my connection chokes out when i upload anything. I usually get around 40k.

Sounds like mental health? I'd be interested in hearing more about your set-up and sharing some of ours, please email me.
My kiddie games don't work in VMware windows XP, it's just flash...

OWL looks promising. I've played with it a little and it seems pretty well polished.
It does requiere a database, but that shouln't be a show stopper.
Just wait 'til they start balancing the budget with HIPAA fines. It will be like speeding tickets for the feds.
Windows is fine for casual use, I use linux for real stuff.
Calling a Mac secure is like calling the second fattest girl in a room skinny.

Clarkconnect is what you are looking for, hands down.
That's true, but their email forwarding is nice. 2 cents a day.

It's pretty cool.
I don't know, it sure looks like linspire contributes to OSS to me.
My experience is that they work, you just have to call for activataion, PITA...
yeah, with Virtual PC, try vmware, it's really alot better.

Yeah, decreased circulation and metabolism due to age wouldn't have anything to do with that either...
