The problem with the register_globals approach is that people are not aware of the possible security holes it creates and uses it in unsafe manners. 10. Tried and failed in Sweden on Cashless Society · · Score: 3, Insightful

A system similar to this was rolled out here in Sweden a couple of years ago - CASH as it is aptly named. Now, about 4 years later, it's all but dead since nobody thought it was a good idea. As far as I can see, the only thing people use these cards for these days is parking meters.

I think it failed here because of a few simple reasons. People here were actually smart enough to see that a major reason for the banks to try this approach is for them to make more money without any benefit to the customer. Doesn't it sound like a banker's dream? I can hear the banker's going:

    - I've got a great idea! We'll make our customers keep all their money - including their cash - in our bank, but we won't pay them any interest on that "CASH"-card.

    - Sweet! And why don't we charge them a small fee to obtain the card in the first place?

    - They won't know what hit them!

Sure, it sounds great with a cash-less society, but until the system is free to use and has all the advantages of cash, it just won't catch on.

I don't know if it's just me, but when I try to use IMAP with OE, it just gets plain confusing.

Let's say I have 14 new e-mails when I check my mail. OE will randomly say "28 new e-mails" or "42 new e-mails", i.e. a multiple of 2 or 3, never ever the correct number.

Furthermore, the little icon in the systray telling me I have new e-mail never disappears, even after I read all my new e-mail. It doesn't go away even if I delete and purge all those new e-mails. The only thing that will make it go away is restarting OE.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, as long as I haven't restarted OE, when that little icon is still there (even though I have no new mail) it plays the system "You have new mail" sound.

All this is very annoying, but if it weren't for these things, OE would work great for me.

This player does not even require any driver installations under Win2000/XP and is said to work with Linux (according to Diva themselves, read the FAQ). The memory card shows up as a removable drive in Windows when you connect the USB cable and it's extremeley simple to download or upload MP3s from/to the player. Yes, you read me right, no security protocol so you can easily move music from one computer to another too.

I just bought one and I couldn't be happier. Best player I've tried so far and definately lots of bang-for-your-buck.
