I used to run Minix on my 386 when I was a student . Unfortunately, I couldn't get the source code easly with the 1st edition of the book. I think the publisher had the copyright and have to send them a postcard with $60 or something and they will send you a tape/or floppies. That is a lot of money for a student. But, somebody gave the source to me. And I was looking like the picture of the guy in front of the book, glued my face to my computer:)

OS free or not it is not propriatery. I can move to Solaris, FreeBSD, etc. I can be assured that there is no Spyware and other junk in it. As far as using applications, there are some open source alternatives. e.g I can use SQL code in application and switch from mySQL to Oracle without much pain.

In Malayalam, 'Swatantryam' means Freedom as in speach, and 'soujanyam' means free as in Beer!!

These days I cannot imagine how a company can be compatitive without outsourcing, unless ofcourse they are prevented to do so by law.
