I have a couple friends that think my MythTV setup is neat. They like the interface, like how I can record 3 shows at once, like how I can watch recordings in the bedroom on my bedroom PC, like how I can burn recordings to a DVD, etc.
But it's not for them. They don't want to deal with compiling and using experimental drivers that sometimes don't work right. They don't want to deal with trying to figure out why it crashes randomly or why audio ticks or how to setup the cron job to update the schedule. But this is the stuff I enjoy. It's fun tinkering. No one is out to compete with Tivo. MythTV developers wrote MythTV for themselves and shared it with the world. Users like myself have submitted patches when needed to make something work the way we want. That's what I like about Myth and why I use it. Yes I spent a lot of money on it but I didn't do it to save money. If I wanted to save money I'd borrow a book from the library. Maybe a grammer book that says when to start a new paragraph.
Does it provide 2 weeks of data to look ahead to
Yes, but MythTV goes 10 days I think. Could change source to do more or less probably. that you can search
Yes. There are a ton of searching options in the MythTV interface. MythTV saves it in a MySQL db and just about anything you want to search on is possible. I only use the alpha order listing though if I'm not look in the grid. Full reviews
I haven't seen these nor have I looked. Full descriptions, ratings, and other info that Tivo provides?
descriptions yes, ratings never seen but I don't watch movies much, other Tivo info not sure, never used a Tivo. And is it really "free"
Had to fill out a survey. Free enough for me. How accurate is Zap2It when a station changes slots
MythTV checks the next day every day and Zap2It has been accurate and updates any changes. Most local station web sites here in Tucson that have online listings are actually linked to zap2it so they must have a pretty good rep for accurate info:)
What I don't get is why people expect Microsoft to promote the compitition. Isn't it the compitition's job to market their product? That's why so many people use AOL. There is a free CD in every store and ads on the radio & TV and sponserships in sports. That's marketting. If someone wants people to know about their product they need to promote it.
P.S. I use Firefox now due to all the crap that gets installed on the PC browsing certain sites in IE. Still using Windows though because I like my shockwave games lol.
Being a sysadmin and netadmin I've seen far to many developers that just don't understand basics of networking or how their chosen OS works like not grasping the registry or file permissions. Or not understanding subnetting or DNS. I wish more developers would study this type of stuff, especially when it relates directly with what they are doing, like writing a client-server app to be run across a T1 from the west to east coast.
It took me a while because I was confused about what the smoking gun had to do with this, didn't care enough though to actually figure out what TSG stood for in this summary. Thanks for the info:)
Previously price as right rules were specified. In that case you want to do one day after the previous post, Sept 18,2007 (I'm calling that) or the begininng of time (1/1/1970) because you thought he over bid which someone else already called.
But your bid will only win on that one day... Good luck with it though.
I wouldn't want it to not record the adverts because what if it got it wrong and now your missing part of the program and have no chance to get it back. I don't know if the commercial ones Tivo,Replay are perfect in this regard or not.
There are a lot of things that ISPs do that you may not need. Do you have all 6-7 email addresses that a lot of them allot. Do you use your 25 mb of free web space?
Of course if your ISP's rates go up you could always switch ISP's. I don't think these are large fees for these ISP's that need the service, especially AOL. And the reason you don't get spam at AOL is because they are already doing a lot of spam filtering.
Ok, so your link points to a list of Prime Ministers. Not being Canadian I'm clueless to how things work up there. Are they royality or elected? Then I found a link about The Canadian Monochary and it was all the British royal family. Will someone spell this out for me?
Then buy a fance auto-start generator.
I don't know what CBS is but I konw CBS isn't televising the debate.
I saw that on Mr. Wizard
yes it was invented but most readers would read "my guess" and interpret it as such and not "as fact"
invented yes, passed off as fact, no
If that's all you want then buy a Tivo.

I use Zap2It's service for MythTV.
:)

That was wierd,
As I read the thread your sig had already been updated so it looked like TheContact was just redundant. But it's funny now that I understand it.
I'm going to add a sig after a post this. And then change it.
THe first time I got that message on the LaserJet 4 that was setup in the office I laughed, but it was obvious what it wanted.
This is neat but I'm confused about the picture that says Howdy Slashdotters. How was the reflection on the platter not a reflection?
Anyway it's cool, I'm jealous.

Why would a dozen people use your PC a week? Do you just have a lot of friends or what?

Last time I checked you could write, run, and compile .Net code with the free SDK download. No needed for Visual Studio.
.Net and not used Visual Studio.
Granted I agree with your other stuff but I have played with

It's not the kids that mind, it's Mom that wants to have someone else handle the kids for a few hours to get some peace and quiet that wants me home :)

I've always heard that this was illegal and all but if so then why does every XBox, PS2, Gamecube...etc have the same price at every store?
But what do you do if it breaks. Will Dell support you in the UK buying from the US store?
Just a thought.
Ok, that makes sense. So there aren't elections for the Prime Minister. I never realized that.
Thanks for the help.

Cox was doing this when I was using their service.
I think that was more to prevent the SMTP virus stuff going on though more than spam.
That will be a neat trick as selections will be on Sunday
Or it was a typo...
Or a typographical error. Oops I started the real word with the abbreviation. Crap I did it again.
Oh Well
