For the record, I worked on the digital effects for that movie, and yes, it is a P.O.S. - but what the f*ck did everyone expect? They gave it to the guy who brought us Independence Day, fer chrissake. I'm not proud of what I do... but Man, I've got five kids to feed!
In any case prices are governed by the law of supply and demand and not by you.
WTF!?!? And I've been calling that guy almost every day for THREE YEARS now to find out how much to pay for electricity, stocks, stuff I want on EBay... I'll get you, McGibby, you lying rat-weasel bastard!
imho one of the funniest things they ever did was to finally name the state as Kentucky in the 11th season finale... leaving the fan community in an uproar all summer, only to change the line to "Missouri" when the episode re-aired prior to the season opener several months later. F*cking genius.
No mod points, so I'll have to be content with replying... Though the parent's question isn't worded in a manner that will get it asked, the validity remains. How about:
"In a time when both the Republican & Democratic parties effectively have the same stance on many issues... when both candidates are so poorly received by the public that the most often heard reason to vote one way or the other is, 'I *really* hate the other guy'... why is it still so difficult for third parties to field a candidate that wins over the voting public in a huge way?"
or
"Wouldn't it make sense for the LP to take a generally moderate-conservative stance, drop most of their 'farther out' ideas (at least for now), and stand firm on a couple of the more palatable ones (i.e The War, Civil Rights)?"
And if you haven't RTFA that the GP linked to, you should. I mean really - how hard is it to be less sketchy than Bush or Kerry?

dislaimer: I really, really want to vote LP this year. I'm on the fence about whether I should. I may end up doing so just to cast my vote for legitimizing third-party choice.
I mentioned this to them earlier today (before the story was posted), and already got a response back saying basically, "Good point - we'll include the time zone when we send out reminder emails later."
So if they're not entirely thorough (see earlier posts about the iTunes campaign) at least they're responsive.
A federal judge, however, granted a temporary injunction lifting the screener ban in a lawsuit brought by independent production companies, which argued the policy put them at a disadvantage for awards.
Sounds to me like this latest make-life-tough-on-your-viewer tactic is a good thing:
Academy member is hassled trying to watch the latest Ben Affleck tripe, chooses to watch an unprotected indpendent film screener in his "normal" dvd player instead.
Daredevil XXI loses Oscar to indie film.
???
(Loss of) profit!!!
And when the Academy tries to force members not to accept unprotected indie DVDs, they lose in court. "Um, your honor... why can't we sent out unprotected screeners? We want people to watch our films. The nice Academy men wouldn't have motives other than protecting their own IP, would they?"
I'm probably going to edit the default text after I read up on whether adding a law is a more reasonable response than just urging my congressdrone to repeal PATRIOT altogether, but it looks like you could use it to express any opinion you wanted.
In my day XFree86 was supposed to bring people together, not blow them apart!

p.s. - if the reference is too obscure for "funny", I'll go for "interesting" (or maybe "flamebait")... Can someone explain to me why this sort of thing doesn't give anti-OSS types ammunition w.r.t. how the GPL doesn't play nicely with others, and why you shouldn't base your project on it?
So is the president of the A/V Club, the fat German exchange student, and the kid with the faded Metallica t-shirt & really bad skin. What's your point?
The perennial slashdot comment that pops up during YRO discussions is that "emailing your representatives has little or no effect" vs. dead-tree methods. It's interesting that the ACLU has provided free fax and print-a-letter options, including per-issue boilerplate. See this page.
Is this better than a strictly email campaign? Could we (or the EFF, or whomever) use this sort of thing to combat the DMCA & other heinous perversions, the heinous perversity of which seems to be no match for the inherent laziness of the average citizen?
Interesting thought: this is much the same problem as spam, only inverted. We want a lot of people to quickly & easily send off thousands of letters to a select few - with each letter being treated as unique, and not being filtered out as procedurally generated junk.
