  1. Re:Publicity worked for Humble Bundle on Pay What You Want — a Sustainable Business Model? · · Score: 1

Yes, you can. Humble Bundle includes all version of all the games listed, and many have soundtracks. You get the Mac, Linux, and Win versions of all the games without restrictions on downloading. Also they now give out keys to add your Bundles to Steam, Desura, and Onlive. It really is the sweetest deal. with GOG coming just behind them. For as little as a penny you can get a tremendous value of games for 3 different computers OSes and they go out of their way to make it convenient. Plus if you pay more than the average price ($7.80 by its close) they gave you the first Humble Bundle for free.

  2. Re:So buy a PS3 on DC Universe Online To Launch January 11th · · Score: 1

The Xbox 360 wired controller works pretty well for DCUO. I bought a controller for some of my GFWL games and found it to work well with Champions Online. For DCUO, you'll have to largely ignore the onscreen PS3 button prompts and do a bit of trial and error, but the gameplay works well. Overall I like this game, but feel it's just missing something. I see no chance to knock down buildings, nor do I feel like I have to worry about property damage or that my actions matter. The game world would benefit from phasing so that my actions have results I can see. As it is, I complete my tasks and am told to move on while the chaos around me continues unchanged. I like the fighting combos and counters. You can block, learn moves to overcome blocks, learn moves to counter attacks, and modify your travel powers into comic book movement based attacks. The game need another year or two of polish, but its fighting does feel nice.

This is my suggestion as well. Google Voice is free, expanding, and lets you set numbers for any special treatment you desire. You can select the harasser's number and set it to block on the Voice web page. You can also have it stop sending calls to your phones (and dump them to Google's voicemail) during certain hours. Best yet, you can have the voicemails transcribed and emailed, or download the voicemails yourself. Think of it as free ammunition for the FCC. GV also lets you record calls on the fly, or listen in on voicemails while they are being left (with the option to pick up). And by setting your cell phone number to GV, the day you want to leave AT&T's service, you won't have to worry about number portability. Just sign up and give the number you pick to everyone. Google can spam filter phone calls for you.

  5. This is why I love Eve Online on Rethinking the MMOG · · Score: 1

Skills, not levels, are exactly the reason I love playing Eve Online. Everyone can potentially take down every other player due to the fact that everyone can play effectively in PVP without artificial levels. The veteran player has a huge advantage in better ships, more gear, and more skills, but the new player is still effective. Plus new players can gang up on larger ships and win.

Eve isn't perfect, but the balancing is nice. The game trains skills in real time, so the only advantage in playing constantly is gaining more money and items. Anyone can compete with anyone, and there strategy is king, not an artificial level. I don't magically become able to use a different class of ship, I have to train for the skills to not only pilot it but to also pilot it effectively. It's a refreshing change from EQ, EQ2, WoW, IRO, CoX, and the like.

  9. Re:Personally... on The Whys of MMOG Archetypes · · Score: 5, Interesting

As the City of X devs are learning, players always deduce the numbers and want them provided, and games that provide numbers do not confuse their player base. WoW and EQ2 provide the numbers, and the players are not overwhelmed and perplexed. City of Heroes/Villains is slowly adding numbers, and admiting that hiding them was a bad idea. In CoX Players spend hours on the test server crunching numbers, and then update character planners. Players resent hearing that a power offers a vague amount of damage or resistance, only to find out that the numbers are super low and not worth enhancing. Giving the players more information allows players to make informed decisions with fewer regrets. Most of us hate deleting toons to recreate as we learn how the game really works.

I used to love Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh (Module U1)! Back in the mid 80s I received a copy and began using its British spelling in school (not a good idea in "progressive" Louisiana). I loved the details! In high school a few years later, I used a map of the town as the main campaign city for PCs set in the middle of wilderness as explorers. I made a wizard's tower, an insane archmage to generate "jobs", and ran with it. That one module gave me so many ideas! Pirates, fake haunting, rural setting, spooky atmosphere, and coastal access. I loved it! Kimmie, tired of WoC's constant churn rate, and annoyed at buying 3.5 core books only to see version II out already.

Not much to see there, but it would be nice to give Horde a backdoor to the dwarven King. Pretty Amethyst ceiling, lots of lava/molten iron (can't tell which but looks same as molten iron in IF), and several doors connecting to the path back to the throne room. Neat place to visit! :D Just go to the IF throne room, walk to the "keyhole" walls flanking the entrance, and blink through the one on the right. In ya go! Blink is a level 20 Mage spell.

I too have seen this problem. Both of my Iriver CD-MP3 players have eventually become only FM players after slowly losing MP3 recognition followed by no longer playing CDs at all.

The real kicker was when my new DVD burner from Asus stopped reading CDs at all, but still recognized and burned DVDs. It just started having trouble with some CD-Roms, then music CDs, then CD blanks. Just couldn't see them anymore.

I switched to Lite On, but now I wonder if my problems were not just one off flukes.

We Southpaws naturally cross letters towards our hand, same as right handed folks, and that is right to left. Doubleclick on the examples with Calligrapher and Transcriber, and see how it always draws left to right (for example when crossing the letter "t"). Now try writing the same letter but crossing it right to left. No good.
