The New Joy of Cooking, 1152 pages 'thin' and possibly the only cookbook you'll ever need. When I can't find something in there, I start searching FoodTV.com or recipes.com for whatever main ingredient I have on hand (beef, chicken, fish, etc).
In the end the recipe doesn't much matter, because I'm always just cooking for myself and I tend to put a lot of the same things in anything I make. Mostly I look to get a general idea of how long it will take to be 'done'.
This PR blurb suggests that a real working box will be in place by May, and "Infinium Labs will also be sponsoring the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences annual D.I.C.E Summit March 3-4 in Las Vegas. The Summit addresses the creative process as it relates to the development of interactive entertainment, with panels featuring some of the industry's leading professionals.".
March 3rd. That would be... um... today! Anybody have a ticket to that?;)
it takes on the 'big wooden rollers' challenge on Takeshi's Castle ("Extreme Elimination" on SpikeTV in US). Let's see it do a face-plant on one of those logs and then smile when it gets out of the mud. Then I'll be impressed.
Ham radio? What about solar activity? If solar storms create surges and spikes on the line, how is that dealt with? Same question with lightning... Cinci gets plenty of *that* in the spring and summer.
And of course the late Marge Schott, who at the time she owned the Cincinnati Reds (baseball, for non-US readers), was the most inflammatory figure in professional sports. She passed away yesterday, and I haven't seen too many positive tributes to her.
As for 'cool place', yes there was old money (see Marge ref.) which built some of its better features, but much of that is long gone now. Good ol' Cinci... not.
A US chain restaurant called Ted's Montana Grill is fond of giving $2 bills out when you get change back on the check... maybe they figure that no one really wants them, and they'll automatically come back in the server's tip.
At least C&C Generals is playable... and the ZH expansion adds variety if not a storyline. I'm wearing the hell out of my game PC playing this lately. Lemme guess, you have a thing for bald guys, like Kane and Yuri?;)
Found nothing about it in the local paper, which is not normally a surprise (the Columbus Dispatch is worthless) but when I went to the company's own website, it says they're NOW located in Chicago.
Guess they didn't want somebody rushing into an office park location and saying "ok boys, pack it all up." Or maybe they're tired of marginally-justified court search warrants.
Depends... are the molded lenses of 'final-use' quality, or do they need some sort of finishing or polishing after the mold process? Then there's shaping the outline of the lenses to match the frames, edging them for stability and glare reduction, etc. Creating plastic lenses that you'd want on your face all day probably taks a bit more than just molding.
Nothing to worry about... Hollywood types have only been dabbling in wineries since the days of Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford... my personal favorite was Pat Paulsen's Refrigerator White, produced in the 80's.
Coppola's Claret is very good, and the Rosso is, for the price, quite a bargain. ($9 here in Ohio.) As for Lucas' wines, I can only hope to grab a few while he is not yet bored with the concept (wine-making is a highly agricultural undertaking, and maybe a bit too analog for ol' George nowadays).
Obligatory SW parody.... from Episode 2, Attack of the Rhones... "the Grapes... I picked them... I picked them all!!"
Yeah, not only do I know many of the Unix admins and DBAs in the area, but also service techs as well. Small world after all, and all that.
To the point of the original post, I've had 4 jobs since mid-99, two I left on my own decision, and got downsized out of another. The result is a choppy-looking resume, except for the fact that I picked up new and different experience at each job. That variation in experience is something that can be an asset, not a liability. (Guess I should have put that in the original post, heh.)
Don't dodge, hedge, or otherwise try to avoid your real work experiences. It's just not worth it. And if you've worked in the same geographical area for awhile, you will find that everyone in IT knows everyone else in IT (maybe 5 times removed, like the Kevin Bacon thing), and your history will be known anyway.
Besides, so what if a project fell flat because someone else pulled the plug? You took a chance on being part of it; sounds like a good resume item to me.
What tips could computer industry insiders offer to one who is willing to pursue an independent educational path towards a career in a Computer Science field?
You've gotta be kidding. Stay with a career path that is more fulfilling, i.e. anything but IT.
That's probably because Biography airs on the A&E channel... A&E standing for "Arts and Entertainment". No scientists featured on an arts and entertainment channel? Gee, what a surprise.
A while back, some people went into the jewelry departments of large discount stores (read: Wal-Mart) with a magnet, and found that many of the 'silver' chains and stuff were magnetic. This called into question whether the items were really silver or not. A discussion about this can be found here.
Worked a beer cart in the mid-80's, at a theme park in the Midwest (K.I.) in the steaming summer, selling beer to other people. OTHER PEOPLE! The horror. And they'd just barf it up after getting off the bigger coasters, and some maint knob would come along and toss orange sawdust on the barf. Wonderful place.

But hey! If we can get fat venture cap for a few case mods, well then let me at 'em.

and the Martian looks suspiciously like Carrot Top. Hmm... at least he has an endorsement deal waiting for him.

Since the distant image is only visible through the gravitational lensing from another galaxy, does that mean the ping will have a hop count of >1?
If I was Bill Gates, I would find it entertainingly ironic to own the company that created, among other characters, Scrooge McDuck. A little more about Scrooge can be found here.)
Geez, what's next? Baby Got Hacked?
Oh, so you're on the management track, then?
We can't. By the time the plane/train/bus ride to [pick an Indian destination] is over, our pathetic vacation/holiday time would be all used up.

Goodbye Disney, hello Vivid.

A silver brick.
