  1. Re:Mixing Desks on Instant Live Concert Recordings · · Score: 1

You've already got one for Front of House (what YOU hear), there's one for monitors and now there will need to be one for recordings.

a lot of the smaller "indie rock" clubs don't have a seperate mix for the monitors - its all done from one soundguy from one board.

I agree. She doesn't express any new ideas on the subject.. but it is nice to see someone who's "been there, done that" to step up against te RIAA. She makes some good points, too.

"That's how artists become successful: exposure. Without exposure, no one comes to shows, and no one buys CDs. After 37 years as a recording artist, when people write to tell me that they came to my concert because they downloaded a song and got curious, I am thrilled."

That's how I am. Sure, I might not buy CDs that I download, but I sure as hell do support the artist by buying merch, going to shows and telling my friends about how good a certain band is.

  7. it's sad on Internet Backbone DDOS "Largest Ever" · · Score: 2

The people that did this are only hurting themselves in the long run, because I would bet a majority of thier lives are spent on the internet. If their main goal is to bring down the internet, what are these 13 year old boys going to do when they succeed?

the good thing about his method is that even if a spammer gets a ahold of his analysis, the more span recieved with those words, it will slowly bump the likelyhood of it actually being a real email.. thus dumping those messages into the spam box.

  14. best mothod? on Ask Alton Brown How Food+Heat=Cooking · · Score: 1

I've found that picking up new skills in electronics (more specifically computers) has been very easy for me. Having several good cooks in my family has inspired me to want to be as robust in cooking as I am with computers, but unfortunetly I just can't seem to pick cooking methods up as easy as say, a new programming language. Do you see any relation to picking up new computer skills with picking up even basic cooking skills? Where should someone with quick learning skills but no cooking background start? Thanks!

  24. encouraging on Can Newspapers Save Local Music? · · Score: 1

this is very encouraging news, considering that for the past two months I've been working on a site dedicated to the local music scene in my area. (Columbia, MO)

Basically I'm creating the most extensive site regarding music in the area - (not a challenge, unfortunatly)

The heart of the site is the local album and show reviews which can be submitted by registered members. I am trying to create a sense of community, because, quite frankly, our scene sucks. (especially for being a major university town)
