When reading the headline, "darker side of computer recycling", I somehow thought the "darker side" was going to be Microsoft in some form or another.....
That's the problem. Look what happened to Germany after WWI when the world turned their back on Germany rather than rebuild them. We -have- to build them back up. I'm more worried about the billions it will cost to do so.
Simpsons producer Mike Reiss spoke at my school about the Simpsons among other things. He said that she's the reason they haven't really made fun of Scientology (if mention it at all?). Cartwright refuses to let them.

He calculated roughly anywhere from a 1-3% failure rate for the shuttle missions. There were 113 (or so?) missions and now 2 failures. That's about 2% failure rate. He hit it right on the ball.
Don't just scan the summary.. There's nothing that special about the top 10. Read the PDF which actually explains each item, giving examples and what to do about it. That is what makes the site worth looking at.
I'm not sure this is possible in most areas, but don't use the bell's. I could have gone with Pacbell, but heard enough horror stories to tell me to look elsewhere.. I found a local ISP that uses Pacbell's lines. The total downtime during the last two years has probably been about 5 minutes, besides one day when some router pooped and we were down for about 3 hours. We don't install any crap, get a static IP and I can walk down to their satellite office if I feel the need to talk to them in person. (Woo, go omsoft.com!)
I was first with flashnet. Prodigy bought them so it became Flashnet by Prodigy or something like that. Then they merged with SBC and became SBC Prodigy or something. Now all this with Yahoo. Is my isp called Flashnet-Prodigy-SBC-Yahoo?
Funny, after Flashnet gave us a cd, prodigy gave us a couple cd's, sbc gave us one, and yahoo gave another, I've never installed any of it. I had to change my dialup number once, but besides that, everything works great.

I only care because I've been following the capitalone.com bug for months with no help whatsoever from them.. Oh well. The MBNA site for my Linux Fund card works fine. I'll be cancelling my capitalone card soon.
They just take them and include it in "Change of Address Confirmation" mailer. If you don't believe me, go move and change your address. You'll see what I mean.
Hmm.. Anyone think "Daawtrtdfw" will make Google Zeitgeist from Slashdotters checking if it -really- returns no results?
The newsgroup post says this:
"Also effective July 15th, no stores besides their own will be permitted to sell GW products on the internet."
The file looks much smaller than 726kb.. Did I lose the other half?
I have a P3 1gig with 896 megs of ram and it studdered. I rebooted just to be sure, and it still studdered. Maybe it's just my system, but beware.
What catastrophic effets? Seems to me that the fail-safe mechanisms worked fine.

I really should stop reading slashdot so often.

goatse.cx .. Please young version of me, register that domain and save me from having an image imprinted on my mind forever.

Each side has it's own battery backup
Here's hoping those batteries work better than the laptop ones do.... =)

That's no lie. I have a friend whose family buys dozens of packages, stores them on top of their fridge just for that purpose.
I don't like them when they're fresh let alone a year old..
I don't want to start a debate, but I'm sure many of us are interested in the technical details of how that happened..

These are drivers for the 64 bit processor.. The ones for 32 bit (what we all have) have been out for years.

I think a "Release Candidate" should have been put out, which when tested for a while should have become 1.2 final without any further changes.
That's what the nightly builds are for.
Otherwise, you can use everydns.net for free which runs a nice djbdns setup behind a very clean interface and only asks for donations.

One of my coworkers made a flying mouse.. It's still outside stuck in a tree.
Really.
