Out of curiosity, how much does a PC-based server cost to run? Say there's no monitor plugged in and it idles most of the time.. Roughly what does that come out to per month?
Simple math, but how much of the 300 watts is used for an idling PC, and what's the average cost per kwh?
What union are they part of? At my school, the TA's and graders are part of the United Auto Worker's Union and were threatening to go on strike. Yup, United Auto Workers. So maybe the students are part of the Electrician's Union or something. =)
I recall reading about Amtrak working with yahoo to provide net access on the trains.. I don't know if it panned out, and google searches just come up with old articles. Anyone know what happened?
Because compared to the systems already there, a DIY system wouldn't fit the bill. I mean, sure it works great for you because you know the kinks and how to get around bugs. If you're giving it to someone less computer literate, try to build a decent photo album program that'd work better than Gallery. I can install the Gallery Remote program on someone's computer and let them go at it.
As someone else mentioned, get your own domain and host the site somewhere. You can domains as low as $5 a year and host it anywhere from $10/yr (for a cheapo company that won't be around in a year) to $10/mo and up.. If you just want email, dont pay any more than $10/mo, if not less.
Then you can set the email addresses yourself from a simple web interface and if the host has a good spam system in place, you wont have to deal with that either.
Also, ask people you know for suggestions.. Don't go to those "10 best hosting companies!" as they're pretty much all paid placement. If you really care where you're going, browse Webhostingtalk and look for people that post often and are helpful. I figure if they're willing to help others on their own time, they'll help you out when you're a paying customer..
Are you sure it wasn't somewhere in the repository? Search the Debian Package page by what you think the package name is, or the particular file you're looking for. I used to think it wasn't complete, but I just didn't know what to tell apt-get to install. There's been maybe one or two libraries I could find that I installed into/usr/local so they wouldn't break anything else.
Nonsense! All we need is Mercury delay lines where each bit is a pool of mercury with pulses causing waves in the mercury determining a bit is on or off. Ahhhhh the good ol' days.
"The NTFS (Windows NT File System) is currently not fully supported: this means you will be able to save an NTFS partition if system files are not very fragmented, and if system files are not compressed."
So yes, it should almost always work fine for fresh installs. Thanks cdc..
I know the second one was a joke.. But does dd work if the drives are different sizes? I was under the impression they had to be the same.. What if I just create the partition to be the same size. Would that work?
So why do they get tips while the airline person inside at the counter doesn't? They both deal with the same irate travellers, except one stands outside demanding tips.
I wanted to post a link to DHTML Lemmings (the original Lemmings in your browser) but it looks like they had to take it down. Help the guy figure out who, exactly, is the owner of Lemmings!
If you watch the flash presentation (or read the article closely), they mention this:
;)
"The price tag for the 364 items this holiday season is $65,264, up from 2002's true cost of $54,951."
Their total number of items is higher than yours, but I'm too lazy to see if you're wrong or they are.
Ummmm ya, that sounds like what the asker wants to do. He's asking about the specs to build it..
Where do I find the $50 DirecTivos?

DesertCombat is a mod. Those would be expansion packs.

Looking now, I see that the local train is testing wifi on certain routes.

You might tear up your carpet trying to do that..
SRL? As in Shift Right Logical? Sounds like he was born to optimize code.

Forget that, I want that pizza rehydrater cooker thing. Pizza Hut is really lagging on that one..
If you're a student like me, it helps to build up a credit line for larger purchases later on (like a car).

Looks good.. The only problem is that their site lists NTFS support as experimental.

Remove the Caldera section in your preferences for the front page.. That should cut down the SCO articles a bit. Or, you know.. just not read them?

Remember that UCD also has the Fistula Feeder and the Corpse Flower Grower. Go Aggies!
Don't forget Southern California burning down. Or as SNL referred to it: "Two weeks after Arnold was voted governor, God casted his vote".

I should have thought to include a link to the pgp sig.. It's true no one should blindly trust unofficial sources. Thanks DD.
