It was hardly ironic, it was actually hypocritical, and I take it back. I really, honestly, in my heart do not want anyone to die. (even you:o)
I do care if people, even people you and maybe me, find undesirable, go around hurting and killing each other. 1st off, killing people is wrong. There are a few justifiable instences, but gang violence is not one of them. To allow it to go on, even if it kills of the undesirables you don't like, you are condoning the action.
Yes your apathy is worse. As long as these folks are just destroying, stealing, killing, and raping their own it must be okay right? Wrong. If you have the ability (as the cops do) to stop these actions, and yet you allow it to go on you are just as responsible for the negative effects as those who performed them. But you are much more morally remis since you KNOW it is wrong, and you had the ability to suppress/prevent the actions, and yet you allowed it to occur.
Another thing to bring up is chaos does not stay bound. You allow this stuff to get out of hand, and it affects the innocents. You can not depend on a chaotic solution if chaos is the problem. It will NEVER work.
As far as defending them? When did I do that? I never said anything they did was okay. I never said they were justified, poorly represented, or not responsible for their actions. I commented on your lack of humanity, not their right to it.
And for my last point. They, as undesirable as they may be, are also your fellow human beings. Not some kind of wild dog to be shot because you can not predict its next action, or set upon eachother to weed themselves out. As a human they have the ability to change and grow. Just as it was wrong for the couple in your example to be killed, because it robs them of life and love and all of the great things we have in this world, it is wrong to kill undesirable people because you rob them of the ability to grow and discover the things in life that a truly worth having. Yes that change may happen behind bars, and though it might not, you should not prevent it from happening... if you do truly have compassion for your fellow humans. Not just the ones that look, act, and talk like you do.
I used to love emusic. But between their ever dwindling catalogue, and the dowload limits they placed on their users I felt it necessary to say goodbye to them. Personally I have found, for indie music, audiolunchbox.com to be a better place.
I'll agree if you say I pay more when I download from then then when I did from emusic, but then I point you back to my first point. Labels and such are abandoning emusic. The why does not matter to me (whether it be for more profits from a place like audiolunchbox, or because emusic sucks) I just know that I find more of what I want there, then I did in the weeks leading up to emusic's policy change.
Oh, and for you ogg freaks, audiolunchbox.com offers ogg format too. They also offer scans of the cd covers at a high enough resolution to make printing viable.
I don't think it is quite ready for primetime, but you can't discount this. Ten years ago a lot of the things we do on the net were near-inconceivable.
Music downloading? My mp3 (all legit, audiolunchbox.com, and before that emusic(before they went to their new model)) collection alone is more than quadruple my hard drive size from eight years ago.
MMORPGs? They were a Gibson style pipe-dream ten years ago (the imersive graphical ones anyways, I didn't forget about MUDs).
As I said, I don't think web apps are ready yet, but don't be so short sighted. Eventually connections speeds and processing power will result in things like this being norm.
Maybe a better model would be a java implemented (for the cross platform functionality) ROX desktop would make more sense. I dunno.

you should take your SP back to the store if the screen is hard to see. Mine is crisp and colorful, and great in the daylight, even better in the dark.
anyone who uses a live CD, that isn't designed from the ground up as a firewall, and connects it to the net is an idiot... plain and simple! You can not deny that.
1) I'm 27, not 16 2) I only think my iBook is magic, apple has flaws 3) iTunes is pretty much the digital music seller that other digital music sellers want to be 4) I make my own money 5) I tend to buy my music from interpunk.com if I buy CDs (the punk assed part is right, just not Good Charlotte, I was bagging on those talentless fucks) 6) I don't use iTunes, when I buy mp3s I use audiolunchbox.com so I get good mp3s without DRM. 7) You're a goddamn idiot.
Too true. If everyone was so concerned about DRM, why did iTunes Music store get so big. Truth is the only people who really get their panties in a twist over DRM are Slashdotters, pirates, and tin-foil hat fuckos.
Please note, I am not saying that DRM is a good thing, I am just pointing out that the average consumer/computer user doesn't care. When and if the RIAA gets their wish and ends all file trading the average joe will shrug it off and go back to buying Good Charlotte cds like a reall American.

You said: "I would doubt anyone would agree with the statement that Linux could overtake windows in 3 years, it will take a lot longer and more team work from the linux people to make this happen, not to mention Linux better start getting the support of gamers who can drive the sales of OS purchases."
She said: "Within the next three years I believe Linux will overtake Windows as the number one operating system based on new server shipments."
Her statement has nothing to do with gamers, desktops, or OS sales. It has to do with pre-installed Operating Systems on server sales. TWO VERY DIFFERENT THINGS
I hate to sound like an ass, cause I would love to see Linux becoming a good gaming platform (as in most games available for it, please no links to Winex, it is neat and all, but come on lets be honest, it's not as good as something written natively. Plus ATI drivers suck, no matter how good your compatibility layer is) but I do not think that the kernel devels really care about games or OS sales (except maybe RH and Suse/Novell). It is a labor of love for the independant ones, and for the ones employed at IBM it's about putting out a great product to sell SERVERS!
Where the fuck have you been? It's not like just about every freaking computer game company in america isn't either supporting their own mmo game, or several, or developing one. Wake up, 1998 is over, MMORPGs ARE MAINSTREAM. Game companies are practically tripping over each other to make the great Everquest killer.
It may be a stupid premise (to you) but it is obviously fun for enough people to make it profitable for other people. MMORPGs are not going away, and not for a long time.
I'll second this. I used Gentoo for about two months, and in truth I was annoyed at the compiling all the time thing, plus due to over-optimizations (at least that is reason most problems with Gentoo are blamed on) I had some weird stuff going on sometimes. Like when I was just browsing the web and doing little non-intensive things like that my CPU usage would suddenly spike and drag ths system to a halt for a few moments. The really strange drawback of that was it would through my system clock off by however long it was stuck.
Anyways, dreading a gentoo rebuild I started looking for other 686 optimized distos, and gave Arch Linux a try. So far I love it. Pacman is a great package manager. If your suffering from gentoo compile burnout, give it a shot.
That's funny, cause I am using Archlinux and I had "upgrade" back to 4.3.0 so I could get my ati drivers to work since they do not work with 4.4. Or did ati release new drivers?
Boxen may not be a truly proper English way to pluralize the word box, but it is generally accepted when talking about computers to be a pluralization of the slang box. Box in this case meaning computer. You know, cause they are somewhat box shaped.
That doesn't make a whole lot of sense since Id wants you to license their new engine. Iirc they write a completely new one every time, not just incremental upgrades to previous engines. So having developers familiar with technology from 3-4 years ago does them no good.
It probably went more along the lines of:
Id employee 1: "Hey why don't we open the source from our last engine." Id employee 2: shrugs "Sure, why not?"

yeah... cause I, like a lot of Sysadmins, use live CDs for my fucking enterprise server at work. My boss has no clue this shit is in a RAMdrive...
grow the fuck up... this vulnarability affects about three people with nothing to steal.
